I ran across your videos today during a remote working day. I work in a program for students with severe behavioral issues. Your strategies will come in handy. Thanks!

Excellent!!! I wish I had watched your video 20 years ago. I taught geography in London for 19 years and took me 18 years to learn to stop think and respond! I was a very good and dedicated teacher, However my automated thinking, reactions and emotions let me down several times. When my son became a teenager I struggled a lot… but made me a a much better person and better teacher.

Polly you have such great takeaways! That automatic thought and perception is an excellent way to think about these kids with behaviors! Thank you!

Thank-you! I can't tell you how often I use this when I see a kid or even an adult in public behave in a way that makes me; "say what!?!" It really helps to reframe my response😁

This is very thought provoking and I will continue to use in my daily interaction with the kids I work with.

Maybe the perception that needs to change, like in the situation with the cell phone, is that nobody likes to be controlled. Every human including children does not want to feel powerless. Why do we get so mad that we can’t control kids or that they respond negatively to being controlled. It’s only natural.

Today I went as cover supervisor for the first time and at one point I felt I’m gonna leave whole class, almost half of class was interruptive , talking back or not listening. I have plenty of things to learn, was hard tho

So. Is it about not letting it bother you ? If the child stays on the phone do you ignore it ? What do you say back when they are disrespectful?

This is a great video!! I am truly encouraged and informed on the topic, and how to perceive and aim to assist those with ED, and I will definitely subscribe.

We used to during our wedding vows say the phrase, "For better or for worse." For sure I don't believe that has to do only with whatever benefits we are hoping for coming from the other person in the marriage we are entering into in sobriety. Because so many people were interpreting that vow only to their own advantage they had to change it however for sure it is useful during any kind of interaction we are trying to be effective in.

When you respond in a calm way do you still give a consequence? This is my struggle as a teacher. We were in power struggles the whole year
@alexa3322 Жыл бұрын
You cannot give consequences. That’s over in majority of schools.

Great! quit question. What have you done in the past, when children go underneath the tables and don't want to get out, and then more kids follow them?

Polly you are sooooo smart

So they tell you to shut up. You change your perspective and don’t react with emotion. Then what? It doesn’t get escalated but gets repeated because they know they can get away with it. That is 10 years ago teachings. Stp lol a way to ignore lol nothing gets aolved

Watch Poli’s other video, the one she gives an example of a kid playing up when a teacher ask him to change seats. Excellent advises in that video too

OMG yes! Reaction and response are very different. Take the moment 👍

You didn't SOLVE THE PROBLEM. You just simply let the hooligan get away with the outrageous behavior! The title of the video is misleading also. You neglected to explain HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER! Not subscribing to your channel for sure. I have 7 years experience at substitute teaching and I very much would like to know how to FIX problems, not IGNORE them.
