I used to get upset with scratches so I bought a brand new SD43 one time and only wore it inside my house for an entire week only to work at my computer and would take it off any time I did chores. After a week it still picked up the normal desk diving scratches on the bracelet. Just enjoy it and wear it :)

I bought a GMT Meteorite dial (it's 18K Gold and Palladium mix)... It was so beautiful and shiny .. got the first scratch on the clasp and it caused an anxiety attack... now I've got a half dozen scratches and I'm good with it!

Some of your scratches might be coming from contamination in your chamois. Watching you run across the clasp is exactly the directions if your scratches. If you lay your cleaning cloth ( no matter what’s its composition) it will pick up minute particles that then get rubbed into areas that normally get no wear. The lamb skin looks great but check it for contamination first.

Every watch has its scar's the first few are the worst but then you realise you can either wear them or lock them away. I noticed that when i purchase new watches at full retail i try harder to keep them new but after a while you just accept the inevitable. I have a grand seikos with zaratsu polishing, it was a headache trying to keep it in new condition. Even dust getting caught in the cleaning cloth scratched the hell out of it, now it just blends in and nobody else notices but me.

Just purchased my first premium watch a Tudor BB58. It is heart-breaking when you first notice or cause scratches to your watch. I was feeling down about it but I am coming to terms with it and watching a few of these videos has helped. As long as the crystal and bezel insert remain scratch free I am happy. Watches are to be worn and I never intend on selling this piece, the scratches make it even more mine as strange as that sounds.

I just polished my bracelet on my Rolex Bluesy and it came out just beautiful and new looking in just few minutes. My 9 month old Rolex Bluesy is the 2-tone Submariner with the 18k gold and Oystersteel with the Oyster bracelet. After having it on my wrist for 9 straight months it of course got scratches and started not to look so great. All I used were just 2 items that I already had at home: 1 - A bottle of Brasso cleaner/polisher, it is the beige creamy compound. 2 - Scotch Brite blue non-scratch kitchen scrub sponge. I used the coarser side to polish. After soft polishing I washed my Rolex with a toothbrush and Dawn dish-washing detergent. I made sure the crown was properly screwed. After washing and cleaning my Rolex and then drying it with a soft cloth it looked like new again. Try my method....you will be very pleased.

I get scratches on the back due to fine particles of dust, dirt, sand settling on my skin. It most likely causes abrasion scratches. Surfing in it does not help much either😂 Even the gentle rub from your cleaning cloth can do it once it collects a few bits of dirt.

I recently bought a brand new Rokex Deepsea 18k gold and immediately ordered from Amazon these stickers that are made specifically for the Deepsea. You get two sets of stickers. They are very easy to apply with the provided plastic tweezers. The stickers cover each and every surface and within 24hrs after they set they are invisible. Because this is an extremely expensive watch, and made in gold, I usually wear an athletic wristband over it at all times when I go out and only remove the wristband when I arrive at the party etc. I;ve used this system on my other watches too, and I used to own a platinum IWC for over 20 years and it looked brand new for all that time. I never use a cloth to polish the watches but instead use masking tape to ‘lift’ the dust off the surfaces

Pro tip: Only buff the polished surfaces with a clean/brand new q tip and save the polishing rags for the brushed surfaces. Any kind of contamination on the cleaning cloth or rag will scratch polished bits super easy

they are meant to be worn after all, if you dont use it and keep it in a safe, when you die, someone else will use it, so use it with no worries. Nothing is forever, be wise with your purchases. The same goes for that guy who buys a ferrari F40 and never drives it by being afraid of crashing it or damaging it.

i bought a fairly expensive watch got it home and found some greasy finger marks on the perfectly mirror like links of the bracelet, so with that i got a nice clean microfibre brand new ! out the packet. then what followed was pretty much a disaster i wiped it gently then a bit more firmer and bam there they were some superb micro scratches ! yep scratched and i bought it only 4 hours ago. you need to use an exremely soft plush cloth designed for high gloss buffing. the micro fibre wasnt that. so after probably 8 hours i managed to make it look nearly ok again.

My new Air King got 3 rather deep scratches on the bezel due to brushing the bottom of a porcelain mug very lightly when doing the dishes. I was assured by RSC I could replace the bezel for a small fee come service time if I didn't want it polished which was reassuring. The rest of the watch is mostly clean and that annoyed me as it was an isolated incident, but at the end of the day they are made to be worn! Lovely watch by the way, how is it treating you? Regards

Would a fluted bezel show less scratches than a domed one? I’m still trying to decide on the configuration I want. I’m leaning towards the domed bezel for a sleeker, less busy look, and towards the fluted for less scratches. Hence I’m torn right in the middle. Help! 😅

You may not be aware of this, but Rolex uses 904l stainless Steel for their watches. 904l is very soft, a bit like making a watch from chocolate. It's very shiny, though. Sadly, tool watch no more.
@ar-am1976
@ar-am1976 11 ай бұрын
Well you know very little about the history of 904L stainless steel then. While it does Polish better than other grades of steel, it also has the highest resistance to corrosion. It's been used by Comex since the late 1960', it was selected to build their ultra-resilient diving bells out of the 904L Uranus Steel! It was also used in the Omega Ploprof 600 which arguably is the ultimate tool watch(I own a Ploprof 600, Baby Ploprof 120, SHOM 200 and also a Modern Ploprof 1200). The materials and metals used to craft such cutting edge tool watches were of paramount importance. The Comex divers working in extremely corrosive environments (specifically for oil drilling) required a watch crafted from a highly resistant metal. Omega tried several materials (included titanium!) and ended up crafting the Ploprof out of Uranus steel aka 904L stainless steel!! Same also now being used on my Deep Sea -James Cameron edition. Not bashing ya, but at least know your tool watch history mate before making a statement like yours.
@robbie3488
@robbie3488 11 ай бұрын
@ar-am6204 Unfortunately, 904l is a much softer steel than 316l and therefore easy to dent and scratch. A friend of mine is a prototype engineer in the petrochemical industry, and it was he that explained to me the reason why my Rolex watches are more susceptible to damage than others I have. When he designs, say a valve for hostile environments. The type of steel is crucial. However, what you say is entirely true. Another manufacturer that uses 904l is Ball, and Seiko has recently released a diver using the same material. However, Seiko has case hardened theirs to overcome 904l's shortcomings. The best of both worlds, why can't Rolex do this?

@@robbie3488well we did see Rolex use all Titanium with the Deep Sea Challenge, so I do believe we are about to turn a corner with materials used by Rolex.

The hardest steel is actually made by a watch company called Traska. Someone made a video doing scratch tests on every watch case material used, and besides ceramic Traska steel way outperformed 904l and 316l, which scratch resistant was basically the same.
@Mpantiques
@Mpantiques 5 ай бұрын
Well, in my experience my watch made from 316l scratches more easily than my rolex. And about tough steel watches, toughest and im not talking about ceramic, is chopard steel they use on alpine eagle, great steel but unfortunatly ugly watch.
