Data is important! You’re right, you don’t want to have worked so hard and then forget the legality of your business. I never thought about the logistics of having a backup Doula but it totally makes sense and I will be checking out your page for more information. #birthinglittlehumans

Alice, this advice could be used for different business models, too. My husband is a tutor of mostly high school students to take tests like the SAT. His repeats are younger siblings. Sometimes students come later for the GRE or LSAT tests for graduate school. He sounds just like you in his excitement about repeats.

It can't hurt to develop relationship with several doulas for backup. I like to have one primary backup along with several secondary backups. Glad you like the lessons!

Hi! I had a question, what do you recommend I do if backups are not possible? There are no doulas around me (closest is over 2 hours away, I live in a very small town) and I am working hard to be the first in my community to introduce doulas and what they do to help laboring women. Should I just stick to keeping small amount of clients at a time or do you have other tips? Thank you so much!

I think honesty with all of your clients to let them know that you don't have a backup and have a generous refund policy if you can't attend a birth due to any reason. I have met several doulas who have been in this position and have practiced this way.

What advice would you recommend for finding a back up Doula? I have been working on this for a few weeks and it has been a struggle.

Hi Jodie, I'm happy to help! I have found that being willing to pay a backup a fee that is very close to what you would make helps finding a backup. You want to make it worth their time. I also think it is ideal to try and find a long term relationship...which can take some time. What have you done so far?
