@@nustiucenumesamipunyou can't analyze Maul WITHOUT talking about how he was stolen as a baby to be raised as a brutal killer by a certified narcissistic psychopath. That would mess anyone up in the long run. Raise with no love, compassion, or forgiveness. Just cold indifference and manipulation. I would be extremely interested to see how he's broken down and what issues he actually struggles with.

I would love to see a whole series on all of the main Starwars animated characters. There is so much backstory goodness in all the shows! Darth Maul is my favorite character in the shows because of his past. Although he can come across as cold and uncaring, he shows the deepest attachments. He genuinely loved his mother, his brother, and was very attached to Ezra. Maul has a habit of not knowing how to form healthy relationships and I think that is what made him so obsessed with Kenobi. Kenobi had what he wanted… and repeatedly tells Obi-Wan how much he is hurting and Obi-Wan and the other Jedi don’t really take the time to listen to him… Maul needs therapy… 🥺

I love that scene you chose to show first. I remember going into the Clone Wars show for the first time having only seen the movies and Mando s1. Like you were saying the clones didn’t stand out to me that much even in the Clone Wars movie. I just kinda saw them as mindless grunts, but I kept hearing about this show and how good it was so I decided to give it a chance. This first episode completely subverted my expectations and flipped everything I knew about the clone on its head. And I love how it’s Yoda who drives home the message that all clones are unique, something that is proven time and again throughout the series.

It really makes me think on how we work with "persecutor" (maladapted protectors) alters in dissociative disorcers: once we recognize that their maladapted behaviors are here to try to protect ourselves from something, we can start looking for the base need or vulnerability and change our behavior for a more adapted one. Working with my own maladapted protectors was quite a ride, but deep down they really need a hug, a plush toy and a mug of hot cocoa. And being reminded that, here and now, it's okay. Trauma time is over. We can heal now.

I struggle with thinking that what I have done is good enough. The phrase I hear the most from my inner demons is that I'm "not good enough." I'm not normal enough or I haven't done a job well enough for customer satisfaction. I imagine others to be frustrated by me or irritated by me. I am always trying to be "enough". To be accepted. In my early years I was rejected time and time again by teachers and peers for not behaving as they thought I should. There is always a part of me trying to be good enough for others' acceptance.

Anytime in media, in a book, whatever the medium is, when it comes to the face down of "The Light Side" vs "The Dark Side", I will begin to sob. I had my own face down, with my trauma as a rape victim and growing up as a gifted child who felt lied to by all my teachers who swore all I needed was a college degree. I am in a much better place because I had good friends who stood up to me and told me I needed professional help. I also recognized the signs early and, for me, I made friends with my own dark side. She isn't evil, she is the part of me that society deemed "sinful" and "out of control", and other horrible words. I don't reject her, I accept her as she is, and she helps me be a well rounded woman.

What this episodes reveal as well is that Jedi are supposed to naturally have this balance within themselves they can’t just ignore fundamental emotions or desires like anger or greed but instead work to control it so it doesn’t consume them. The Jedi became so dogmatic during this time era that they no longer were true Jedi, which is why the sith manipulated and defeated them so easily. Luke understood that vader was like him and once he grappled that dark part of himself first, then he became a true Jedi.

I love the part about fighting darkside. From the movies I think connection with force makes everything stronger. That is for example why attachments are forbidden because fear of loosing someone is much more dangerous for jedi than for regular person. Regular person has just part of them afraid, but for jedi that part is sentient and jedi will also always be tempted to get more powerful to save those he loves and than it just transforms into only wanting to be more powerful.
@AndreNitroX
@AndreNitroX Жыл бұрын
In Star Wars the dark side is not apart of the force instead it is apart of the force user, except it’s more amplified. If the dark part of yourself overcomes you then it will be amplified, only through discipline and balance can you hope to be a better person.

@@ignacnovotny2808 I think ultimately it works really well as a metaphor for how we tend to fall into habits. Getting angry and punching someone is easy, can feel good, and can even on occasion solve a problem. But it also kinda builds a habit of doing that, and worse.

@@ignacnovotny2808 yes, many confuse the balance in star wars as light side/ darkside, but the real balance is the force and the dark side is the perversion. True balance is dealing with life's problems and overcoming them, whether evil exists or not does not affect that natural balance, but evil can tip the scales.
@cindywells9119

I think the one thing that I got that was valuable from my own “hero’s journey”-which from the context of Joseph Campbell is more symbolic of the journey inward, as opposed to outward goals-was the understanding that our shadows for the most part are parts of us that are inherently good and valuable, but get distorted and thrown out of balance by being either suppressed or overdone out of fear because of voices growing up telling us that parts of us are terrible or shameful. I remember my father trying to break my strong will, and yet if it wasn’t for the fact that my mother accepted and cherished that part of me I might have allowed it to be broken, and if that had happened I couldn’t have survived the health challenges that almost took me out on more than one occasion. I do still struggle with a tendency to sacrifice myself unnecessarily, but again, that’s something beautiful if it’s held in balance. It’s just that out of balance it can be problematic in relationships, with a tendency to over-give, or fall on your proverbial sword for someone else, instead of dedicating yourself to following your own path in tandem with someone else following theirs. Yoda was trying to genuinely fight for good, but was blinded to how the wars had gotten out of hand, and the degree to which the Jedi were being manipulated by far from elevated parties. It’s very easy to manipulate people by casting them as heroes against those painted as villainous by a particular narrative, but reality is far from black and white, and in general I have developed a profound distrust for any of those sorts of narratives. This is understandable, given the narcissistic individuals in my life who fabricate such narratives regularly (especially as I tend to be cast in the villain role, which couldn’t be further from the truth.)🙄

One of the points at which... I think my relationship with my wife began to really die was when she started refusing to... take in any media that might make her overflow emotionally. She shut down to those strong emotions, refusing to accept them because she was so desperate to keep perfectly poised control over herself. That was when everything started to eat her so badly, I think. Everything was just too much for her to handle after that, and I really think that... like with Yoda there, it was the denial that gave them more strength. Meanwhile, I'm a highly emotional being, and I love to take in things that just break my heart down to my core. Heck, why else do I watch this and Cinema Therapy? On top of that, at the lowest point of our relationship before we agreed to end it, I wrote about a 200k-word story series where I took characters that had represented parts of me and reimagined them from scratch, going through all of the trials and tribulations of their lives... embracing that pain as part of their road to a place of peace. I'm not saying that I'm better, or an unequivocally good person... but I really do try to accept and recognize all of those parts of me in order to keep them from taking over and bringing out the worst in me... which I am fully aware is very dark and very dangerous.

I too have always put other's needs before my own and recently I found the dark side creeping in but after seeing this I know that my self introspection thus far has been pretty one sided and not as thorough as I thought it was. I realize the things I need to work on and it's definitely the fear of losing someone and what that would bring if I continue on my current path.

Not to steal you Clone Wars thunder, but this also made me think of an excellent episode of Star Trek (Original Series) with a very similar theme and message: The Enemy Within. Capt. Kirk is a victim of a transporter accident that splits him into a "good" and "evil" half (a la Jekyll and Hyde); but the intriguing twist is that his keen intelligence and strength of command is from his *evil* side...tempered and controlled by the strong conscience and compassion of his good side. And it ends up they both need each other to survive, and get put back together in the transporter with lots of help from Scotty and Spock.

This show was made by people who were passionate for Star Wars before Disney got more involved

@@AndreNitroX dont get why they dint put effort as they could make more money as more people will watch it. A mistake they should have learned with the Rise of Skywalker.

@@AndreNitroX Yup and one of the reasons I think they thought they can treat it somewhat like Marvel even though they allowed to give more effort in writing those movies, look at Infinity War. But they don't understand that they're so many Incarnations of Marvel and they're doing one of them. Star Wars was always one story, continuity with no reboots. They needed to do more research and watch all the Canon that was established in previous movies and tv shows like the Clone Wars instead they rushed in. Because many things like more established chosen one prophecy in the Clone Wars was changed in the sequels but still somehow Disney considers the Clone Wars Canon. And Palpatine in which George Lucas on record said he was completely dead and Anakin fulfilled the Prophecy by killing and himself. Now some how he's not but he is but Rey is also only 30 years later of a thousand year prophecy. They really can't make up their mind. (I know this is one big of a rant)😂

@@supersteve1585 the best move they could have made was to create a new story far away from the original story. before or after, but at this point that doesn't matter.

One thing that wasn't discussed is that Yoda is one of the few Jedi in all of Star Wars who doesn't fall into the trap of believing Force Visions to be set in stone. Yoda alone recognizes how fluid the future is, and how it is always in motion with numerous possibilities because it is impossible to see beyond choices that have yet to be made. Most other characters see visions, but since they see these visions without any degree of context, or an understanding of the choices needed to reach that future or avoid it, they end up rushing headlong into a bad situation, or such visions end up becoming self-fulfilling prophecies. Yoda is the rare exception who doesn't fall into this trap. Yet for all of Yoda's wisdom and acknowledging his faults, I don't recall Yoda ever acknowledging how he contributed to failing Anakin, particularly when he turned a blind eye to Anakin's emotional needs and equated grief and the attachment that leads to grief as "the shadow of greed." Then again, Yoda was a product of flawed teaching, just as the rest of the Old Jedi Order was, in trying to teach the suppression of "dark" emotions and acting like they don't exist. As valuable as this lesson was for Yoda in the twilight of the war, it almost comes too little too late to help the rest of the Jedi Order, especially Anakin.

That's a common idea about the Jedi but I think it's just not supported by what we see on screen. Hell, freaking Luminara Unduli, possibly the most "orthodox" Jedi around makes a point of clarifying that yes, she would absolutely grieve for Barris, but also she'd get over it. They're really just portrayed as being really good at... processing their emotions, and quickly if they have to. Anakin's problem was that he basically just faked it and was enabled by Palps encouraging his worst impulses.
