In most cases you can take classes at a college or university while serving in the Air Force. I speak from experience and once I was focused, I was good to go. Explore your options and see if it's a good fit for you.

Don’t forget almost all enlisted military qualifies for the FAFSA Pell Grant of 5,700 per year if you are a full time student. I came into the Air Force as a weapons troop and hated my job. Decided I wanted to commission as a pilot. Finished my CDC’s, and then finished my bachelor’s online in less than two years by taking four classes at a time with no breaks. I was using all of my TA, all of my Pell Grant, and a little of my Post 9/11 Gi bill (8 months worth).One year out from graduation I put packages in for both Navy and Air Force pilot slots. After finishing my bachelors I went straight into my masters while waiting to get picked up for my pilot position. 6 months into my masters work I was half way done, and got selected for Navy pilot. I separate the Air Force next week and leave for Navy OCS the next day in Rhode Island. I’ll be making twice as much money going from E-5 to O-1E and will have a $4,500 pension and a $200,000 a year job waiting for me when I retire in 15 years. Getting your degree while on active duty opens so many doors if you want to change what you are doing in the military, or get out after your enlistment and find a great job in the civilian world. Not taking advantage of school while your in is pure laziness. Saying that you are going to wait until you get out of the military to focus on school is nothing more than a pathetic excuse. Worked 12 hours a day and through most weekends while doing this, along with taking care of my wife and kid. Giving up partying with friends and video games gave me plenty of time to focus on school.

I was wondering how old were you when you put out the packages for pilot and how old were you when you started pilot training, I am 21 and have around one semester into college, idk if there is an age limit to enlist for pilot traning but I am thinking of finishing college and then going for pilot (probably get into ROTC in college) or do you think I should get into the Air force, finish my bachelors while in the AF and follow the same path as you did?

@@yourmilitarymoneyThis video is from a really long time ago but, I’m 16 and even though I haven’t graduated high school, yet. I want to do Air Force full time and be a pilot. It is really hard to be one? Also, what score do you need to get in the ASVAB in order to be an Air Force pilot?

You are correct, C for undergrad and B for graduate or you have to pay TA back.

Thank you for your service and the video! I leave for Air Force BMT April 10th. My goal is to become a pilot. I have a 2 year degree and I'm 23 years old. With that being said, is it possible for me to do college full time? I'm trying to give me the best chance possible for that Pilot Slot.

Neil Kellie once your finished with tech school and completed your cdc's at your new base then you can start taking classes by going to the education center. 1 or 2 courses per semester is what I'm doing right now and it works with the full time job schedule (depending on how motivated you are). Don't forget to send your transcripts to the CCAF or a university college of your choice (the education center will help you with this).

Thanks for this! One of the reasons I decided to leave civilian job and go for a commission is to take advantage of eduction benefits. I recently got accepted for OTS and have not had a chance to dive into the details of the benefits. But if I use tuition assistance does that money subtract from GI bill money? BY the time I join in June will only be two classes away from completing a certificate in programming. Hopefully I can use tuition assistance to pay for the remaining courses. Thanks!

TA is different and separate from the Post 9-11 GI Bill. Max out your TA and down the road you can use the Post 9-11 GI Bill for yourself or you can transfer to your children. Congrats on your selection to OTS!

When i graduate high school i will have 25 college credits (gen ed courses) from my local community college by doing this program called dual enrollment. So if i enlist with college credit already, will that be added to the credit i earn in tech school and speed up the process of getting a 4yr degree? Or would it depend on the degree i choose?
@yourmilitarymoney7 жыл бұрын
Yes, most likely that will be added to your general education classes. Great for you!

Thanks for the great video! You said that if you have your bachelors you should still obtain your associates degree, is this what you meant for officers as well?
@yourmilitarymoney6 жыл бұрын
Not for officers as the associates degree is only offered for enlisted.
