The problem is alcohol has health benefits in small quantities I know people that have gone there like you don't want to hear it but it's true, some of the longest living people drank alcohol, mainly because it's such an excellent straa reliever and takes your mind out of the horrible Normal consciousness, but it has polyphenols and lots of antioxidants, especially red wine!!! Especially! So if you quit drinking I recommend replacing it with something else that takes you out of the normal consciousness, mostly when your stressed stress is the ultimate killer. Dr Ryan.

Bless you man. You have NO idea how much that will mean to your kids. My dad will never quit. I am an adult child of an alcoholic and though I know it's a "disease", the thing that always stands out to me is that he loves the alcohol more than any of us. It's a rough feeling.

I no longer know if I believe alcohol should be drinkin at all! but replace it with something that lowers your stress, ideally we should all be meditating and that I will always think, there's still a small possibility that natural red wine in small amounts can be beneficial. But were not here to escape from our problems were here to learn.

Coming from irish and polish families I have seen that people have two choices at the end when their health starts to fail.. You either wittingly drink yourself to death or make the choice to get well.. Problem is that by the time they make that choice the damage has often allready been done.. Props for ron to self reflect in a healthy enough capacity to make the choice before hitting the endgame phase

I always admire those who beat their addiction. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.

Reddit is cancer except for r/stopdrinking. I’m 7+ years sober and that subreddit became my go to sub for the first two years of my sobriety. I lurked the sub for a loooong time (years) before I finally pulled the trigger. It never gets easier but it does get less hard. I laughed with my son last week because I had a hard day of work and I thought “I’m buying a beer on the way home” and I haven’t had a drink in 7 years! You can do this. Life is so much better on this side of sobriety. One thing that I always remember from r/stopdrinking that someone said is that the problems that make you want to drink will still be there once you sober up.

The pain has been excruciating. My journey into sobriety is just beginning but I'm ready to have a new future. I did it for me but I like to think that my aunt and uncle are proud of me too. They were together 39 years on this earth. May they rest together in peacefully in eternity. All my love Sean and Angel ❤

Very enlightening. I quit drinking 33 years ago. I started drinking in high school and abused for 15 years. I knew most of those 15 years that eventually I would have to quit. What worked for me? Well first I decided to do a month long inpatient treatment program. One day at a staff meeting (I was 5 years into my teaching career) I got up and told my colleagues that I had a drinking problem and I was going to be gone for a month. So I put myself out there. So it was the risks I took and a healthy amount of fear that have kept me sober. The fear is that I am afraid of what will happen if I ever try drinking again. I will say that I do use cannabis. Not ashamed of that I like catching a buzz. I don’t abuse it though. Just a little bit to get the eyes smiling. Though I am not a doubting Thomas my success in quitting drinking is my tangible evidence that God is very real. Without His help I would have drunk myself to death.

Do you really put such little stock in free will?? I believe that if there is a god he merely pulls on threads in the universe around us and shows us that there is a better path within reach.. Don't misunderstand me; If belief in a higher power helps a person (addict or otherwise) to want to live a better life then it is a good thing and i will be supportive.. The mistake in the 12 steppers rhetoric is to tell people that god is fully in control and we must merely submit and believe to succeed.. I just feel that you saying that you could never have quit drinking without gods help represents one of the many religious concepts that enable strong people to lean on religion like a crutch and become weaker for it.. I dislike the way that organized Christianity and major religion as a whole preach exclusion.. Every religion would have you believe happiness in this world and the next is wholly dependent on total loyalty to any one of innumerable organized faiths, the doctrine of which have all been written by mortal men.. If there is a real god he would be disgusted by much of what passes as normal in organized religion.. I know that if you quit drinking it was with gods help but you as an individual made the decision to stick with it regardless of what miracles or divine intervention that may have touched your life..

I did shrooms in 1979 in college. One of the best things I've ever done in life. And before any comments from the peanut gallery, I started out in debt, married 30 yrs, 3 kids all musicians w/college degrees, retired from a corporate career at 52 to legally grow weed, and am financially independent living in a condo on the beach in SoCal learning guitar. Hail, hail, rock 'n roll.

Ayahuasca thankfully showed me love for first time in my life at 38 yrs old. Also understood the planet is a living structure & that we’re connected with it & to one another… life doesn’t happen to us, but flows through us & to experience non-separation is something that humanity needs on a collective level of healing. Another funny-weird thing… I was working as a doorman/security in Chicago bar industry at the time. When I came back from Peru it was a sensory overload!!! I would hear conversations, but was also picking up the body language movements & tone pitch variations in dialogue… I was witnessing so much more communication within social interactions going on all around me, multiple ways we communicate to one another nonstop. It’s odd that we’ve forgotten what it is & means to be a mammal within a ever changing social system & we get so caught up in the theatre drama of what we think it is & means to be human. That first experience brought me back to Peru the following year to do more work with Ayahuasca-San Pedro-Yopo… I’ve become somewhat the black-sheep with my family/friends, lol & after a lot of reflection & integration I look at myself & the world very different than most these days. It also helped me with just understanding you don’t save the world, or other people, you just work on yourself & by doing so, that’s how the world really changes by one candle🕯lighting itself so other candles can remember that they are their own candle. Stepping into your own light takes courage-humility-humbleness, good luck to any who are on this path, or at some later point in time find their way on it.🙏

@@GetOutsideYourself Put a few 5meo experiences in there as well for deeper understanding of nonseparation within our perceived reality. & doing multiple heroic doses of psilocybin was a game changer for me personally on so many levels. I believe it made me more open to my Ayahuasca ceremonies as I was able to just let go & flow with the altered state, most people in both of my separate retreat experiences in Peru had major blockages in their ceremonies of holding on to the egoic mindset, while the key is in letting go. Happy to hear your family supports-understands the personal growth of going inwards, best wishes on your journey of self realization. ;)

For the chronic alcoholic, our choices are few. Recovery, insanity, or death. One day in 1994, all of the negative consequences, combined with the end of my physical, mental, and emotional endurance, was the catalyst for my complete surrender. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. I too became a heavy drinker during the pandemic. I was spending all my money on bottles that id kill in basically a night, turn around and do it again the next day for like a week. At most id take 2 days off before binging again. This lasted for like 8 months. I ended up waking up one morning with internal tremors, seeing spots, and immediately got slammed with a panic attack. Had no clue what was happening to me until I did some research. I quit cold turkey, at home about 3 or 4 days later and thank god I did. Its been close to 2 years now since that last drink. The tremors and panic attacks persisted in strange intervals for about a year afterwards but I can say I've made what feels like a 95% recovery. Happy to be alive and feeling normal again! And I had to constantly fight and spend all my free time seeking to make sure I never ran out of what I needed to even fuction. I was constantly in survival mode. And no1 around me knew. No1. I was an addict for 23 years. And no1 knew in my life. Bet anyway my point being is I'm so much better now. Hang in there. You are worth fighting for and your life and your happiness matters. I still struggle daily but I never want to feel as low as I did just last year. So I continue the sober fight. Life is really hard a lot of the time but the good moments make it all worth it.

I'm glad to hear more people are realizing what mushrooms and ayahuasca and other psychedelics can do, I was saved from a severe decade+ hard liquor habit, I was downing four gallons of vodka a week at my worst but was pulled out of my misery by a heroic dose of mushrooms and LSD, I took 8 grams and 1200ug at the same time and had the worst and best experience of my life, I've been sober coming on 6 years now. It makes me happy that Ron is cleaned himself up so well, he looks great now.

Hang tough, Ron. Just celebrated my 39th year of sobriety May 2nd. 'Shrooms are a gift from God and I will die with a joint between my lips. I'll be 70 y/o in January and I've even let my snow white hair grow to a length I wished for when I was 17 ( it's really a pain in the ass though but a cutting ain't anywhere in the cards. Peace and love, Bro.

Same here, my hair is down to my azz and it’s good I’m retired since it has become a career. Never been a drinker, but I’ve smoked weed for over 50 years and live in a weed friendly state. Shrooms are fantastic and I’d like to try ayahuasca before I leave this planet.

@@knolose1 It’s all very subjective and up to your interpretation as to who has a “problem”. Some people use alcohol moderately for anxiety. But, in my opinion, one is not “sober” if he is still using any mood altering substance.

I like what he said about forgiveness, because I struggle with that, you have to let the guilt go, it's very hard, it hurts to know that you've missed opportunities, and let others down, those are the things that keep you in a holding pattern, it's like he said guilt is a waste of time, he's right I think I can forgive myself, that really resonated with me, thanks Ron!

I've been alcohol free for over three years. I've had a very similar experience as Ron, at first it was socially awkward to hang out. Eventually I felt so good and there was so much improvement in my life that it isn't awkward anymore. I have a coffee, water or a soda and hang out all night if the vibe is right.

Happy to hear he has a healthier life style, weed instead of drinking , wish he and girlfriend would buy my house next door to us, , he is like regular people that is a down to earth guy we normally don't see on stage.

Love it.!!!! There was a time in my life where I couldn't imagine myself without a beer or cocktail in my hand. Now I'm 18 months sober from alcohol. I am right there with you Ron. I did change vices and all I do is 420, but responsibly. I sleep like a baby. My face and body is no longer swollen. I am a MUCH happier person. It has made me 1000 times more motivated in getting stuff done, working on music or video and spending more time with family and friends. I will admit, I was also avoiding my drinking friends for a few months when I started. Scared of the fact I may go back to drinking. But that never happened. Overall it was the BEST choice I have made in my 40's. And I see myself staying sober for the rest of my life. Peace.

I get to work for this guy when he comes to our Venue once a year and he’s always a class act. I hope he reaps the rewards from living a healthier lifestyle. He’s such a good hearted man. All that being said…All touring bands and comics take care of their crew who will happily drink and party to excess while on the road, lol. He’s not alone footing that Bill. I remember having to fill four page of bs for an opener’s rider. They had no place to sit or do anything. One of their management comes in and walked up to the lead singer and said, “This is why your broke!” I had to leave so I could 🤣🤣🤣

Unfortunately, the damage to his body is most likely too far gone. If he’s really lucky and has very good genes, he might have a shot to live another 20 years. However, due to his previous drug/alcohol abuse, that’s most likely not going to happen.
