My biggest problem with this is how camouflage painting that complex probably took an hour from a team of professional makeup artists in reality, but somehow he did that to himself in battlefield conditions and fast enough for the others to not catch up with him. The explanation for him gaining those skills is also stupid. Unless those cakes were decorated to make them look like photorealistic landscapes, it's like saying that being good at carving wooden statues makes you a competent shipwright.

Timothy Y. Probably being bought by people in the Capitol. The film never really established that some people living in the districts were actually quite well off doing that sort of thing - yet another thing only in the books. Man this is a bad adaptation.

I love Peeta's introduction. He throws out some bread for Jennifer Lawrence. . . right on the ground. . . in the rain. . . like she's a dog. Romance imminent. This movie is unintentional comedy gold.

Yeah, Peeta was just a pathetic character. Gale should've been the one chosen for the games since he and Katniss had established history and actual personal and romantic stakes. It would've been much better to have them deal with the games together, especially when they were the only two left!

The worst thing about the series is easily the lack of character development, in the first hunger games movie only 10 of the 24 tributes have names, the rest are just token no name people who die immediately. Same exact thing happened in the 2nd movie too. In mockingjay part 2 at the halfway point they just started killing characters for no reason, they try to get you attached to a character then they just kill them off a second later.

Actually, you know the true irony in this movie series? We're told that in the Capitol, the Hunger Games are sensationalized and turned into pure entertainment. And then the marketing for the movies happened, and they played pop remixes of the soundtrack on the radio, and advertised Hunger Games themed makeup, and basically did exactly what the Capitol did in the books.

True, like imagine she's holding onto Rue, who has passed out at this point. She's pressing her forehead against Rue's, silently praying that it's all going to be okay, and there's a silent pause for a second that makes the audience think "hey maybe she'll be alright". After a few seconds of that, the cannon goes off, signifying Rue's heart has stopped, crushing any hope katniss or the audience may have had of a happy ending between the two characters.

This movie was way too lighthearted for the theme. The plot is that a group of people is forced to fight each other 'til one of them is the last man standing, that's pure horror material, but skrew that, let's make a PG-13 movie and skip all mentally disturbing stuff. Killing is okay when you don't show how people are scared to death or mentally distrupted about their actions.

I've always hated it when a movie would show a character as being from a place that is plagued by famine, yet they don't look malnourished at all. One would think that the folks who made the Hunger Games movie, a movie with a multi-million dollar budget, could at least make the actors look like they have been starved. But then again, the make up department was too busy making the capital residents look like the population of Tumblr.

Not sure how not wanting little girls to get body or health issues cos of what they're seeing on TV is a stupid reason, I'm someone who loves complete accuracy but even then I don't expect actors to lose/gain an unhealthy amount of weight for a role, that's silly.

If this was a movie to be taken seriously with good actors they would initially have lost some 10 to 20 kg for their role. And if you don't want teenager to relate to a starved Katniss just make the underweight in the movie a bad thing. Show the characters desperate to gain food and weight, show their suffering from the famine, show how much their lives improve as soon as they are properly nourished. Then any intelligent teenager would get the message "no food equals bad".

The whole plot and environment. The capital is living in the 22nd century, while the districts are living in the 19th century. Hell, it's even worse than the 19th century, because they're all starving to death for some reason. Why? How? It makes no fucking sense. How have they not revolted decades ago?!
@DrBreadPants
@DrBreadPants 6 жыл бұрын
John Handcock thank you. Why haven’t the massive amount of people that are starving (whom are buff somehow and master fully trained somehow) have never thought, “huh? These rich assholes kinda suck. And we all hate them right? Let’s kill them.” Also what is the motivation of the rich people? How are they rich if they don’t have a lower class that works for them? It all makes no sense. Now if they had doomsday weapons or something, I might understand. But revolts would have happened. Why the fuck does anyone participate in these stupid fucking games? I would take weapons I forged of blunt tools and kill everyone in the citadel. They don’t seem to know how to fight.
@sarahperkins6421
@sarahperkins6421 6 жыл бұрын
It seems more believable to me that the citizens of the citadel may not be fully informed on what's actually going on beyond the walls, are threatened to not lash out against it, or possibly have been raised to believe that what is happening to these kids is deserved in some way as some form of extreme classism. Read any testament from someone who has escaped North Korea. It is quite the eye opener what people can be made to believe when they are raised in a country that can make you disappear for even gossiping about your leader. If they have the power to keep these districts in line and even parade the slaughter of their children for generations, I'm lead to believe that they must have the military power to back it up.

To which I'll reply "Huh, that's REALLY ODD! I didn't even notice i was doing that, but if it annoys you, I can always go ahead and put an abrupt and violent stop, TO THAT"(again, rhyming) And just kinda string them along just to screw with them lol

5:07 Actually I thought the reveal that Prim was the one who was chosen was really well done, at least in the book. I think the typical trope is that the protagonist is usually picked, as though by fate, to undergo the events of the novel. Katniss however, voluntarily shoulders the burden in order to protect her sister, which I think is much more impactful!

The film is so pussy about it. In the book its way more gruesome. It details someones head being crushed over and over with a rock, and cato is thrown to the super wolves he is slowly ripped to shreds while still alive, and katniss has to shoot him out of mercy. Plus as you said at the end a lot of these questions are probably solved in the books and they are. Just another example of a film not living up to the book, which is a real shame.

Although that does provide a reason for the lack of violence it doesn't completely forgive the film. As they do miss out some really key points from the books, like explaining the careers and the character development that the people of District 12 get in the film is nothing compared to the book. And either way, pussying out and taking away the gruesome nature of the source material just to get PG13 isn't a good thing. That's like saying "yeah i know that the Great Gatsby book has murder and sex and gambling, but we are taking all of it out so that we can get to a younger audience.".

they wouldn't have appeared as starving as other people in the district as they are more well-nourished due to their hunting and gathering in the woods that other citizens cannot do. Additionally, all the running around in the woods would build a lot of muscle. However I do think that they should have been thinner and less polished looking, but definitely not near death. Also, she said "is this real?' because it was refined white bread that gale got from an actual bakery which is noted to be very different from the rough whole grain stuff they usually make at home in the book. not implying that they've never had bread.

One of the many reasons I prefer watching Battle Royale to Hunger Games is that you see most of the kids acting like kids. There's a few badasses out there but so many are scared, they easily crack under pressure, some just go crazy, one tries to take advantage of his crush cuz he has a weapon, a few commit suicide, a lot try to hatch escape plans, you got bullys going all out, kids who form groups get paranoid and kill eachother, lots of crying involved... It's so much more visceral and human. Full grown adults thrusted into this situation wouldn't be as calm, collected and detached as the kids in this film.

I'd give her some credit, she's great in Winter's Bone. It's just she doesn't do loud, bombastic performances, which is what most of the "greats" e.g. De Niro, Streep, Brando are famous for. She can convey a lot with just a glance, shrug or the slightest change in the tone of her voice.

@@s.g.7572 I've seen Winter's Bone. I didn't think she was that great in it. Just considering what was required of the role, Jennifer Lawrence didn't really stand out to me. Maybe it's because I know actual people from rural movie and have family from there, but the people who looked like druggies and meth heads were far more believable in their roles.

To me it seems that the logical thing to do to solve that suicide pact would be to broadcast to them is that if they go through with it, their families will be executed in particularly excruciating ways. Say, entomb them alive with an air source left open and let thirst kill them. That is a nasty but simple way to kill a person. You would think that somewhere during those previous 73 games the situation has arisen that the participants decide to just not fight.

at around 8:25 when you talk about how unrealistic it is for kids chosen at random to be that skilled; Its because those districts are careers who train for the chance at the hunger games for their whole youth. then again, if you missed that it was probably the movies fault as I'm not sure if it was explained. also there's a flaw in volunteering bc the careers want to go to the hunger games, so how does that work for them? wouldn't everyone want to volunteer whatever lmao. nice points btw

the book has actual commentary and is a great satire of the teen drama format, which is one of the reasons why the movie sucks so bad. the movie literally just cashed in on the fact that the book included all of the teen drama cliches and had an overused premise that preteens hadn't been introduced to yet it's also important to note that the book addressed most of the issues you had, but the movie was really bad at covering these things, and just sort of assumed you've read the book.

AE Hall I think this was about the "random" kids that are magically skilled killers part. In the book his hunch was right, the richer districts have lots of money so they have training centers that molds kids into killer volunteers and win almost every time. Winning gives them more money thus more kids to train. Katniss' district cant do the same because in the book they were extremely poor, and the better-off ones like Peeta came from families that are too selfish to care. Only Haymitch won and his victory was dumb luck. Also the 11/10 score was meant ro be a punishment. What Katniss did (shooting arrows at the government officials) was a threat so they decided to put a target on her. Once the trained kids know there is a better victor, they'll try to kill her first (or make it top priority) because that would mean the people watching would throw more support and money at Katniss and not at them.

Not really everyone, since I have read the books and know they don't explain it all, or even a lot. Almost all Adam's objections still stand, including that one about who is buying the cakes. Yes, it seems there are a few relatively wealthy families, but not enough to support a bakery, unless they're only eating cakes, every day. An explanation =/= a good explanation.
@zurichRevolts
@zurichRevolts 7 жыл бұрын
Flora Posteschild you realize bakeries make more than just desserts right? they tend to also make, like, all the bread. you know how the phrase "bread and butter" refers to what someone considers essential? a bakery's going to be pretty important in a basically agrarian, bartering town. i haven't seen this video in a while, but surely that's the weakest possible argument you could've tried. i think the argument buckley was going for was about peeta's painting skills being a stretch (since there shouldn't be much need for cake decoration) rather than that the bakery shouldn't be doing well. in a town like that, people who sell food are going to be among the most well off
