On the flip side, there was a very touching moment back in 2014. Canada had suffered a great tragedy - a gunman on Parliament hill in Ottawa. The people of Pittsburgh (fans) of the Pittsburgh Penquins + their bitter rivals- Philadelphia flyers at the start of the game sang O Canada together. It was a heartstring twister.

Yeah, Nashville Predators fans, also, sang "O Canada" directly as a tribute to the Canadians who had finished the US anthem in this video. The singer purposely stopped and held up the mic so the entire stadium could sing instead and they really did! Absolutely beautiful. (The video for that is on KZbin as well).

I worked for a pro hockey team in the States for about ten years and we had fans that would sing the Canadian anthem when the mic would cut out, too. You would get the same chills. Americans and Canadians have had and will continue to have each other's backs. Unfortunately, politicians on both sides are trying to destroy that bond, but the citizens are all on the same side when we need to be. For us regular folks, it's just a friendly rivalry.

A song born out of trauma, a story told with great passion, then adopted as National Anthem. I guess some countries set out to have someone compose a national anthem, but for the US, so much passion & gratitude went into one man's creation of a song it still reverberates. And some people wonder why so many Americans care so much about our country, our National Anthem. It was just born that way, embedded in our souls. It's so wonderful that it so deeply resonates within you. May you have a wonder-filled and miraculous trip in the US.

@@counselthyself2591 you do realize that most of the soldiers where British soldiers who convinced the tribes to fight with them against the US, right? The war ended with nothing changing prior to the treaty being signed. That war was pretty much pointless. Lots of lives lost for land that remained the same when it was done. Either way we look at it, neither country has the same military as they did +200 years ago. If I had to bet my money on who would win a battle, without outside interference from other countries, between Canada and the US, I'd bet 10,000/1 the US would win. Both videos were awesome. The words for U.S. National Anthem were written during the War 1812 with Great Britain. The melody is from a song written for a British men's social club and was specified by Francis Scott Key to use in singing his words. It did not officially become the national anthem until Congress acted to do so about 1930.

As soon as the Anthem starts, my hand immediately goes to my heart. We were taught to do this as soon as we could walk. Same with the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you for reminding me of the good in my country as well as other countries. God Bless you, New Zealand, and God Bless America!

Excellent comradery from our neighbors to the north. Many US citizens know the tune to Oh Canada, even if they don't know the words. Fortunately, my wife is a Newfy, so I know it.

I was at a Red Sox vs Blue Jays game where the Canadians sung the American national anthem so loud. I thought they would remain silent but I was brought to tears to hear them sing it so loudly. It was incredible to witness

After 9/11 my husband and I were shocked to learn that our 3 daughters didn't know the national anthem. We thought that they were taught it in school (apparently not). So we made sure that they learned it and understood the importance of it. Hope you are having a great vacation! ❤

As a Canadian growing up close to the border, both anthems were normally played at sporting event's as teams were from both countries, or players on one team was mixed. The part of Norther Ontario, that I grew up in we always sang along with the anthems as well. As for Canadian/US relationship, it's best summed up as a love/hate relationship.

The National Hockey league starts it’s preseason games around September 28th. The regular season begins around October 10th. If you can catch a hockey game in USA when a Canadian team is playing, you’ll get both National Anthems! Pretty cool to see and hear! 😉👍

There are certain moments as an American where you feel that surge of pride and thankfulness to be from one of the greatest nations that has ever been. The mics cutting out brought that feeling home.

The Star spangled banner is one of those songs that you really have to be a good singer to nail. Which makes it even more goosebump inducing. It goes really low and really high all over the place! If you start too high you'll be screwed halfway through.

You only get both the Canadian anthem & the US anthem at sporting events where there's a team from Canada playing a team from the US. So ice hockey is the obvious choice, as there are seven NHL teams in Canada, but also there's one Canadian MLB team, one Canadian NBA team, & three Canadian MLS teams, too. So hockey fans are very familiar with both anthems, & many fans sing both in the stands.

Grand Dad thought of New Zaland as the second anchor of the pacific war. The only thing that Dad made clear was to always attack first in the Pacific. The Pacific fleet was thought as a holding action. He said to advance. The momentum was there. He was just a corporal & seemed to know more than the brass. He said to always advance. He said as long as they were advancing; he would get home sooner than later.

It makes me feel so good that you guys take the time to actually learn about America's history and why we view patriotism the way we do. When we stand together in the name of our nation, there is reverence. You guys get that, because you are good and kind people and you took the time to take it upon yourself to learn more about another country. You guys are always welcome in Louisiana. Maybe you guys do a video one day about new zealand things?? I fully admit that I known very little about new zealand and its history and would love to hear about that sort of thing from your side. Teach us about New Zealand. Whole new world of content. Show us your food. I'm sure Atlanta could whip up some of yalls regional delicacies and you guys tell us about it. Tell us about your landmarks. Can you guys tell where other new Zealanders are from by their regional accent like here? And probably most importantly....I wanna know about New Zealand snacks. Do you have snacks there we don't have here?? Surely. I wanna know what they are and how new zealand snacks taste. Just saying. Peace out my NZed fam!

That happened a few times in Canada where the sang the American Anthem when the mic cut's out. It also happened at a hockey game in America. Where the mic cut off and the Americans finished the Canadian National Anthem.
