Seems that a lot of people are having trouble figuring out why x =4 at the end. Maybe this will help: 55x + 75x = 520 You have to isolate x, in order to find this value. In this case, x represents time. 130x = 520 I got this result by adding 55x + 75x together. Its sort of like adding 55 + 75 together, except there is an x at the end of the numbers. Now, I have to get rid of that 130 that's attached to the x! 130x means 130 multiplied by x or 130 times x. In order to get rid of numbers that are being multiplied you have to do the opposite of multiplying. Dividing! So, if I divide 130x by 130, it leaves me with x because the division and multiplication cancel each other out. One more thing though is we cannot just divide 130x, we must devide EVERYTHING in the equation by 130. This means we also have to divide 520 by 130. 520 divided by 130 = 4. Now: You are left with x = 4. That is how he got to 4. He just skipped the explanation part, though I don't blame him. So, hopefully this helped!

all you had to do was add 75 with 55 and you get 130 and divide by 520 and you get 4, get rid of the x's, to confusing. just add the two and divide the actual distance and you get the answers.

Add similar terms first. .. 55×+75×=520 130×=520 Divide both side by (130) to get (×) by itself. 520÷130=4 or, x=4
