Finally got to catch up on this video. Enjoyed it and would love a video on choosing border fabrics. Also wanted to add that I took a course which talked about the high performance athlete cycle which emphasizes what you talk about: you can’t operate in “competition/high end” mode all the time or you’ll burn out.

I love the idea of a video talking about choosing border colors and thicknesses and same with binding. How do you choose binding colors? This could be super helpful for lots of folks, I think.

I checked out the audio book of The dressmakers of Auschwitz from my library. It was amazing how, despite the brutal treatment they suffered, these women pulled together to help lessen the despair. Karen, I recently was given the chance to work from home and I grabbed it. This has given me the energy to do crafting again. Hand embroidery has been a favorite outlet for me since childhood. I feel so much better when working with my hands. Still just a beginner quilter though. Love your show. Thanks for all you share with us. I'd love to see more about choosing border colors. ⭐

The Book of Lost Names is a current favorite of mine. It's another WWII historical fiction book about forbidden love and forging documents for the French Resistance. A young Jewish woman fleas Paris with her mother to a small French town and helps Jewish children cross into Switzerland. They keep track of the old and new names in an old Christian religious book. The ending made me cry

Hi Karen, any suggestions how to decontaminate a quilt from Covid? The quilt is made with cotton quilting moda fabrics and 100 % cotton batting, it hasn’t previously been washed, and I don’t pre wash or starch my fabrics either. The quilt top has white, some soft colours and then some reds, it was the Sophie collection from Brenda Riddle. The advice for treating fabrics for Covid, in general is to wash them at 60degrees Celsius, I think cottons are ok in that temperature but before I take the plunge and put it in the washing machine, any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Obviously, as I’ve done with previous quilts that had red in them, I’m going to use A LOT of colour catchers during the washing and drying process❤
@JustGetitDoneQuilts10 ай бұрын
My understanding is that the covid virus can only live outside the body for a very short period of time. Cotton is very porous and viruses in general only survive on smooth materials like counters, wood or stainless steel. So unless the quilt has been fouled in some other way, I would just air it out in the sun.
@rebeccamulkern105110 ай бұрын
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts thank you so much for this reply, I’ll follow your advice, I really appreciate it 💕
@rebeccamulkern105110 ай бұрын
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts update on the quilt, I decided to wash it in the washing machine with ten colours catchers and 40 degrees Celsius in the end, as the weather is awful here at the moment so airing it out , which would have been my preferred action after your suggestion, wasn’t an option in the end. Luckily the quilting gods were on my side, the colour catchers did their job and turned pink but my quilt, after drying it in the drier, came out super nice and with that beautiful crinkly effect, yay! Also the whites are now very bright and clean so I guess it needed the wash, I now know if I have to, I can just put my quilts in the washing machine and then drier and it should be absolutely fine, phew!

I saw a video on another channel regarding that to-do list. One of the suggestions is to have the list, then pick 3 items from that list to tackle, one of those 3 could be an urgent. Hopefully this takes some weight of your shoulders while also giving you a tangible sense of achievement. Hope this makes sense

Love these Q & A’s and always learn something. I’m not good about catching it live and have a request. I love the after quilt idea but I have a problem getting it all centered correctly on the back of the quilt. Any tips?
@JustGetitDoneQuilts10 ай бұрын
Try to choose a pattern that doesn't need to be centred. It takes a lot of work to centre it on the back and it's often at the cost of doing a good job on the front. So, I try to match the front to either a strong horizontal line or vertical...not both. And I honestly don't worry too much about it. It's the back, no one but a quilter will look at it much.
