I love the class.Thank you!! I’m a 50 years old beginner. You both are a great inspiration for many people like me that considered it was too late for ballet classes. I hope you could post more classes like this one to practice at home. Merci!

This is amazing thank you! I've been out of dance quite a number of years and have returned age 28! This has been great for just getting back into it again, my partner who has never danced a day in his life is starting to be able to follow most of this too, he's planning to start after lockdown ends, while I am doing zoom with my old old studio and super helpful videos like this until after lockdown

LADIES!!!!! I luuuuvvvv you. I am former dancer, recovering -- waaaayy to slowly for my liking -- from Post-Concussion Syndrome. This basic barre class is great, and very, very familiar to me. Can't believe I practically did this from memory for years. Anyway, these days I'll have to hit pause, and owing to hip issues, can't produce much of a turnout, so I'll be modifying and hitting pause, as I try to recover some of this. Wonderful! Thank you soooo much! You made my summer!

Thank you so much for your channel. I was a ballerina from age 3-12, but when my parents divorced my mom could no longer afford to keep me in ballet. I was literally weeks away from getting my first pair of pointe shoes and it was heart breaking. I've always felt like a piece of my heart was missing. (I'm 26 now). Finally sitting in quarantine, I thought...."do they have online classes??" and i discovered your channel! Thank you so much for all your dedication. I recognize a lot of the vocabulary from when I was younger and some of it is coming back to me. I am looking forward to improving....you give me hope that I can do it again. It's going to be a lot of work, but I just wanted you guys to know how much I appreciate you!!! :)

Any tips for frappe?! I am struggling so much here. My form, my speed. It's awful.
@BallerinasByNight9 жыл бұрын
+Maureen Seel Yes! First, remember frappe means 'to strike'. To strike what? The ball of the foot through the toes, for the purpose of strengthening them for the descent from jumps and pointe work. So, make sure you are striking the correct part of the foot. Second, frappe has to have an under circle movement. That is, from the time it releases from the leg, it has an 'under and up' quality. This shouldn't look circular to the observer - it should still look like a straight pathway, but the muscles underneath the leg will initiate the under and up. Third, make sure the leg is fully disconnected from the hip. Place your hand on your hip to make sure there is little to no movement. If you are taking the hip with you and back, it will inhibit you from being able to move more quickly. I'll try to do a video on this soon - great topic! Hope this helps!
@maureenseel1189 жыл бұрын
+Ballerinas By Night Thank you! I have this same struggle with petit battement as well...and double frappes with making sure my foot articulates and is precise...I'm working on it...thanks so much!
@BallerinasByNight9 жыл бұрын
+Maureen Seel Then my guess is if you can get the feeling for disconnecting the leg from the hip it will help. And remember to treat the knee like a hinge joint. Try and make it work like a hinge isolating the lower leg from the upper leg, and that should really help!
@maureenseel1189 жыл бұрын
+Ballerinas By Night Thanks! I do think that is part of my problem...focusing on moving the leg instead of the knee. Thanks!

Hi Abby and Jana! I' ve struggling with my fifth position. This is my 3rd year and I cannot close my feet! My teacher says that I need to stretch my hips, but I dont see any improvements. I have low arches. Im afraid that my tighs are the ones causing trouble 😞 If you girls have a solution or a piece of advice, let me now ASAP!
@BallerinasByNight9 жыл бұрын
+Jeanette Holmes I wish I had more advice for this. The only time I have had a fairly closed 5th was when I was dancing 8 hours a day - simply because my muscles became so stretched out. You can probably see in the video that neither of us work in a completely closed 5th, and personally it is not something I push on my dancers. That being said, if you lie on your back with feet in the air, and work on going from parallel to turn out, you can work the correct muscles. Single leg dead lifts can help strengthen the hamstrings, which can help hold turn out. Stretching is important, but it's also important to strengthen so that your legs can hold the turnout you have. Make sure your hips are lifted (the hip bones should feel straight up and down, as opposed to tilting forward or backward), that your posture is aligned, and that you are shifting your weight to the supporting leg in your work. Hope those things can help! Keep working and give it time.
@silvanamartinez59039 жыл бұрын
+Ballerinas By Night Thank u!!!! I´ll try these exercises. I really appreciate your suggestions😊 Sometimes I feel really discouraged because we are all adults and my mates can close their fifth. Plus whenever a new student arrives, they can also close their fifth! So I started wondering if there is sth wrong with my body even though Im pretty flexible. I never compare myself to the other sts because I consider that each body works differently. But this fifth position issue is driving me crazy. Best wishes!

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.] - (AMPLIFIED version) NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. Xxx
