It helps to note that if it's your first time creating a google ads account, you gotta click the very small "switch to expert mode" link at the bottom in order to create campaign like this (or bypass creating a campaign if you're not ready yet)

Spotify is trending downwards, no question. They are trying to be KZbin now but YT has quite a head start and deeper pockets. Andrew, it's like you're reading my mind on this stuff. As always, thank you for the invaluable, umm... value that you provide here.

Spotify is playing a very interesting game with the podcasts and video integration. The biggest risk for them is that they're 100% reliant on this to work, and Google isn't. Literally Google, Apple or Amazon could crush Spotify at a moments notice if they ran their music services as a great loss for a few years since they have the capital to fund it. They're kind of in the same position as Netflix in a way, which is why I think Spotify is playing the podcast / video game to protect themselves just like Netflix did by making exclusive shows and movies. If Spotify can curate and buy-out enough big players, people will come to Spotify for the specific content thats exclusive to the platform and they'll have shielded themselves from some of the risk of bigger players. @@AndrewSouthworth Agreed. And I think Spotify is making a terrible mistake. Their niche for a while has been music "on-the-go", just like KZbin's niche has been "not-on-the-go". And the non-paid experience on Spotify is deliberately painful, whereas KZbin's is not. Both of these observations are in KZbin's favor. Spotify is going to lose a lot of money trying to pivot to KZbin.

Thanks Brandon! I've tried a few such as trying to get conversions with YT ads and Display Ads, i've tried search ads, i've tried CPM based video ads instead of CPV video ads, and I think a few others haha. Google / YT ads is my big point of research right now so i'll have more on it for sure.

Hey Andrew, talking about the longer view time of the skippable in stream ads: Could it be, that a fair amount of people is consuming music from KZbin in the background (like on a Spotify Playlist) and won’t notice when an ad is coming on. Hence streaming 100% of the ad and then automatically moving on to the next video?

Great video. The earned views happen even when you don’t click to watch the video. After 30 seconds of viewing the ad KZbin counts it as a view or if the ad is watched completely.

According to KZbin, earned view occurs when someone views your video ad, then later watches another video on your linked KZbin channel, within 7 days of the initial view. What you're describing would just be 'views'.

Hey guys 👋 could u maybe explain something to me? I’m new here:) ..In this video andrew says that when using placements (choosing channels or videos to be featured on) he says 22:16 “don’t do it in the same ad group”, does he mean in the ad group that has the custom audience? and then he says 22:53 “if you don’t put a target here (audience section) and you target everyone on the channel it’s get a little wacky targeting KZbin channels..” I’m confused 🤔

@@volcaniadread I can only answer the first question. Yes, he means the ad group that has the custom audience. What he did in the beginning (e.g. choosing product and brand consideration etc.) was part of the overall campaign. But the targeting afterwards (like defining the custom audience) is part of the ad group. You can have several ad groups in one campaign, so that you can keep the setting from the overall campaign in the beginning and can just produce several ad groups with different targeting. So he actually proposed to do just that - create a different ad group in the campaign.

Thats a great idea for a video actually. In summary YT ads seem to be more effective if the goal is to promote your music video and your YT channel itself, since its native to the platform (kind of like how it would be silly to promote your IG on Google Ads instead of FB/IG ads). Ideally I want to find multiple ad platforms I can use to achieve my goals, because being completely reliant on 1 platform is very risky, so thats another part of it. Also you can target different types of people and the targeting is both more broad and more specific at the same time, since you can either run to gigantic affinities or to specific YT channels. Certain people you'd never be able to reach with FB ads as effectively.

People who watch in stream ad are counted in view duration but only when they watch at least 30 seconds so if they watch less or don’t click it doesn’t hurt your view duration. Also view duration is high because some users let ads play because video plays in background but they aren’t necessarily interested in ad. Discovery on the othe hand people have to click so if they aren’t interested they just leave and everything counts toward view duration

I've focused a LOT on Spotify, but more recently i've dove more into Apple Music and even Amazon Music and others. Super recently i've been going down the KZbin route to explore how that goes. Spotify is king right now, but I can't imagine it always will be. The only thing thats constant in marketing is that nothing ever stays constant.

Realized I didn't actually answer your question. As a new artist i'd focus on Spotify right now since it has the most algorithmic potential. While things change all the time, you should have plenty of time to take advantage of the benefits Spotify offers. Just keep that in mind that its good to diversify. Spotify is my #1 focus at the moment still despite all the testing in other platforms.

Been trying to do this for nearly a year but my results have been dismal so far. I appreciate the added views but I honestly feel bad that there haven't been any actual interactions from people when it comes to my music. 95% of my views come from ad campaigns but they barely help cause people just watch for a little bit and then jump off without any thought whatsoever. Either that or there's bots. It's very impossible for someone to just have 300+ views and it's like if they didn't care at all. Worst is that my subscriber count has been stagnant for a couple months now, so while the numbers say otherwise, I feel I'm stagnated in the channel sense. So, as a quick note to people setting up ad campaigns, you're only guaranteed some clicks and views but it's very hard to find real results.

hey Andrew thank you for the vid! I was trying implement what you've done but my ad is approved but not running for some reason... I increased the bid to 0.15$ and it still doesn't run ...I just got 58 impressions for just one ad group and it got stuck! :/ I increased the campaign budget too a couple times... Hey Andrew, thanks again for another great video! 😊🙏 Can you explain (maybe even in a video someday) in more detail the CPV bid? In this video for example the estimated performance with $0,01 CPV is 5,5k-15k views. Whereas with $0,25 CPV it says 2,4k-7,7k views. Shouldn't the estimated view increase when you increase the CPV as well? That's so confusing to me. 😅 Time stamp is 18:55-19:09 min.

Thanks! So the CPV bid is how much your willing to pay per view, so when you increase your cost per view you'll get less views for the same amount of money.
