To Woody's questions, this is called "placer gold". It comes off host rock veins higher up in the mountains and goes down into the rivers. Most people "pan for gold" on the banks, but Pauly is able to find it in the river as the gold will settle into cracks and is easy to spot. He is in Vancouver.

I've gone Panning a few times in the area of Hope and have never been disappointed. The landscape is also awe inspiring so it's never a bad time. My thoughts on what you said, if he was not even 10 feet deep and panicking, bolting (uncontrolled ascend) to the surface isn't that much dangerous as you said. Chances of barotrauma are little. Of course he shloudn't do that but it's not a big deal. Next thing, 45 pounds of weight, if you dive very shallow, in very thick wetsuit and doing what he is, wanna empty the tank, you need to be overweighted. For any activity that you need to stay very close to bottom - like his gold hunting you need to be overweighted. Pivot is not what you want in such a activities. When I dive 7mm +7mm open cell wetsuit (summer diving) I need 35 pounds of weight, when winter diving (drysuit + full electric heating, full face mask) you go to 45 pounds easy. Try sometime very cold water diving, very shallow and stay at the bottom without moving at all for about 2 hours 😁 That's what he's doing and it's totally different from standard diving.

Awesome video. I follow Pauly. He's got a great heart and has charisma. He's not trying to prove anything but is always authentic. As a diver, when I saw this video I could I came up with the same results that you guys did. BTW this gold is placer gold, and is considered 99% pure and gets full market value for trades. this looks like an awesome activity when you're trained for such diving of course. Selling the gold you find doesn't make sense as you probably spent a lot more finding them . Nah, if you’re in the Northwest there’s a ton of gold. There’s still gold miners up here in Alaska.

Gold is hold when found in nature. Pure gold that is. The only thing that changes gold in 14k 18k and 24k is the amount of alloy metal they smelt it together with to produce jewelry etc.. lol so Woody is kind of right and Gus was way off haha. Just fyi. 💛💛

I’ll be honest, I’m not a diver at all, but I’m a huge fan of your Chanel. Really interesting and entertaining content that actually gives me good insight and learning about diving.

Is he talking about weight in his pockets or the weight as a whole between lead, tank, bcd etc…?
@beck24243 жыл бұрын
Paulie is local to me, on Vancouver Island. We have very cold water here, almost exclusively dry suit diving. Generally we talk about weight as net negative lbs. For instance I wear a DUI crushed neoprene dry suit, with 2 layers of thermal underwear. I usually dive steel 100 tanks which are 6lbs negative buoyancy compared to an AL80, I have 5lbs non-ditchable weight a left and right tank pocket. I have 10lbs in each ditchable weight pouch integrated in my BCD, and then another 3lbs ditchable on each side in a harness pouch. So I dive with: 5 + 5 = 10 tank weights 10 + 10 = 20 primary ditchable weights 3 + 3 = 6 secondary ditchable weights 6 lbs (steel tank) ---------------------- 42 lbs We count the tank so it's easy to migrate. If I need to dive an AL80 I add 6 extra lbs. Some people dive back plate + wing, and the back plate has an additional 6 (I think) negative lbs that would be added into that calculation. Now I'm pretty sure I'm bigger than Paulie, and my 42lbs is for Pacific ocean water, not freshwater river, so he's probably overweighted but it's likely necessary to compensate for the current for the task he's doing - so it's probably not as dramatic as it sounds. The BCD lift capacity thing sounds relevant but it's likely that his BCD has plenty of lift for him even with 45lbs on. I believe my BCD has 38lbs of lift, so you might think that me having 42lbs of weight leaves me unable to lift with my BCD - but the majority of my buoyancy is me inside the dry suit surrounded by sweatpants and long sleeve t-shirt covered by a fuzzy onesie. That traps a lot of air and needs a lot of weight to sink. I'm perfectly weighted at 42lbs with my BCD completely empty. If I drop any of my ditchable weights I'm heading to the surface without needing my BCD at all.

This is the first time I have ever commented on a KZbin video in my life but I just had to say how much I loved this! I enjoy all your videos but this one made me laugh SO much. I will look forward to seeing you both in a cold river, looking for gold, very soon. Woody like an overexcited puppy, and Gus following on behind, rolling his eyes in despair. 🤣
@DIVETALK3 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you for commenting! I'm not sure if you'll ever see me near a river looking for gold but if that ever happens I'll know that you'll be happy watching it!

This is Woody. BOTH Gus and I are gonna love our river diving for Gold! I MAY let Gus try the squeeze thingy magigy one time. (Maybe), but for sure he is gonna love river diving for Gold. I’ll hold all the Gold though, just for safe keeping and all.

@@DIVETALK 🤣The squeezy thingy majiggy is the best bit! Only let him have a go once he’s accepted river diving for gold is his true destiny.

The two of you have probably swam past enough gold to pay for your equipment, all of it, many times over. Geology boys, geology! Watch some videos of the gold they find in Australia. Sometimes several pound nuggets. Some bigger. On land. Imagine what's waiting down below!

I think this is the Fraser river in BC, Canada. Pauly shows up on Dan Hurd Prospecting videos in that area. Thanks for the vid!

Maybe he needed the 45 lbs to stay anchored to the ground in faster flowing areas of the river?

Woody's spirit is pure gold! There are videos he drives me absolutely bonkers with his conspiracy theories, but he never ceases to make me smile. The icing on the cake is always watching Gus' reaction to Woody's wild comments & I totally feel it every time he rolls his eyes or face palms! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My new favorite duo on KZbin!🤩

Do it guys! I've watched him and Dan Hurd for the longest. They have trips to Alaska where you keep all the gold you find by running dredgers(sp?) with scuba gear on. Look it up!

Looking forward to the video! Ask Pauly to collab. Looks like Y’all could both share some tips and lessons. And that way you don’t have to buy all the equipment. Prob a good opportunity for both channels to get new subs. Can’t wait to see it, there’s only a few months until it gets real cold up there so better start planning!
