NOTE: Somehow the audio for the slide show got shifted, and I did not notice until after the upload.
This short video documents by build and hack of the HAL9000 kit by Moebius Models (MOE20015). A narrated slide show shows the model build, and installation of the extra (not part of the kit) EZ Sound module. Then a short video segment shows my hack of the kit's LED circuit in order to have the power switch ALSO control the power to the sound module, so its batteries will not be depleted when not in use. Finally, some more video shows my scheme for mounting the HAL9000 on the wall for display and demonstration.

I could still cry, thinking about the wonder and amazement i experienced watching this movie the first time. To me these kind feelings are the meaning of life and my purpose. I love it so much to see, that others also appreciate it very much, and will try to recreate this model with your adaptations. Thank you very much :D Sad to see some people critizing others for being enthusiastic for what they enjoy. I guess some people just live to work...

Very nice job! I loved the movie and I wanted to make the kit for while. I also like the "mounting system" with magnets!

Three or four more months of modifications and electronic additions and I believe you’d have an actual HAL9000 in your workshop.

I wish I had watched your video sooner. I disassembled a old Hallmark ornament, rewired the resistor, and added an old 4 ohm 2 watt speaker to the module. It works fine off the button cells. I also wired the resistor to the speaker so it pulses instead of staying steady. The unit activates by simply hitting a new push button switch on the side. I figured that many people don't know that it's not screen accurate, and the low power consumption and the pulsing as it talks added interest. Feel free to email me as I'm going to use the board you recommended on my 1/350 USS Enterprise build. My question is, will it cycle through more than one sound recording or only 1 recording at 2 minutes?

This sound module only handles a single sound. It does not cycle through sounds.

Hi, I dont understand the wiring upgrade. The speaker batteries are only used when the pushbotton is pressed to activate the sound board. Why does the board need a separate off switch?

I don't know anything about electronics. Can you point me in the direction of the new switch you used that I can drill through the bottom bezel to push to get the sounds?

Nice mods. What switch did you use for the sound module?
@youtuuba

jimvac77, the switch I used does not have a manufacturer or model number on it. This is just a typical sub-micro momentary NO pushbutton switch. Radio Shack carried them, and pretty much the same switch is available from lots of electronics distributors.

@@youtuuba thanks, I looked again and it seems to be a 5mm momentary switch. Again, nice work.

OMG YOU SPENT A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT ON SOMETHING THAT HAS NO PURPOSE..... A KIDS TOY....LOL

Bruce Lee, what a stupid comment to make. You clearly know nothing about this. It is intended to be an authentic replica prop from a classic movie, very iconic. Hardly something that a "kid" would be interested in, and certainly not any kind of "toy".... As it comes it only lights up, again hardly something a kid would play with. Do you usually call things you don't personally care for "kid's toys"? I enhanced mine to make authentic sounds, which was worth the effort to have a cool, iconic movie prop in my home. If that does not interest you, fine, but save your insulting tone for somebody else.

That was seriously rude man. This guy has admirable skills--it's good to be good at things. It should inspire you to be good at something
