Something that’s being missed by many people, the decal set includes a word “reset“. This is a cheat. They did not want to pay royalties to NICOR. So the Decals say “NICO” And you’re supposed to use the R from reset to complete the word. The instructions do not say this (that would be admitting it) so you just have to figure it out.

THANKS, for doing this video! I saw this the other day at my favorite hobby shop. And it has been on my mind for days. So I called him this morning to see if he still had it and asked him to hold it for me. I'm on my way to go pick it up now. I can't wait.

With an MSRP of ~$46, this is perhaps the worst value kit I've seen in ages. They cheaped out and couldn't even include a fitted back panel or frame for it to sit within? This is the height of abusing nostalgia purchasing. However, as always Doc, you can turn a sow's ear into a silk purse! Well done!

Hello from 3 years later! LOL That looks excellent, and your work is outstanding! I am building a new Z690 computer, in a white case, with a faux aluminum front panel. I might put in a Hal light like that one. The other way I could look at it is, "How To Wreck A Computer Case!"🤡

Good kit. Can't complain about the low parts count, there is no reason to have more of them, except a back and some facility for wall hanging would have been both logical and nice. I can justify the expense of the kit because they seem to have done their homework on getting all the dimensions correct, and adding subtle things like the textured metallic frame, and having high quality molds and injections. The two lenses seem to be well done, and actually give the red LED the appropriate diffused appearance that matches HAL from the movie. And while the actual plastic parts probably cost Moebius practically nothing, the small electronics assembly for the red LED had to be hand assembled, and this might actually be their greatest cost of production. Mine came out well. I also drilled all the holes in the grille, and lengthened the battery wire to allow mounting it higher up (and not on the grille). I added the EZ Sound module from Amazon, and put 2 minutes of HAL's voice, grabbed from some KZbin videos and edited. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqqnpGB5lLOLjKM

In all honesty, polystyrene models helped to make me the tech that I am. Back in the late 60s and early 70s, I built SO many models. Cars, planes, spaceships, ect. They teach you the skills of following instructions correctly and adapting when the instructions suck. Then Radio Shack had the P-Boxes. That taught me about electronics. The principles were the same. Follow the instructions and, if something didn't work, figure out what you did wrong and how it should work.

Hey Doc, I'm doing the Ceti Eel from Federation Models. The horns on the creature, the two forward ones look black from the reference pics I've seen. I was wondering how to go about painting dark horns on a creature. I've seen you paint teeth and other sharp, protruding horns and you used whites and yellows like on the Mimic. Essentially asking that colors to use.

@@groundzero6662 I actually wasn't trying to troll. I was honestly curious how he used the ice pick through that part. I didn't want to drill the holes out and thought the ice pick idea was a good one and wanted to know how he got the ice pick through that thick plastic. Doesn't matter now anyway. I finished building this a couple weeks ago.

@ianthomson9363
@ianthomson9363 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. 432 holes in that speaker grill. It took me about two hours to drill them all out using a small power drill/screwdriver. I cut away the ribs on the back where they coincide with the holes- it doesn't really need them, it's quite rigid enough without them. I'm also using a 9 volt mains adaptor (which took a lot more searching on Amazon/ebay than I expected) instead of batteries and plan to mount the finished article on my computer case using magnets.

Yep, exactly! Except that Alexa going to play an important role in taking away all your rights, your guns, ensure you're complying with all safety rules (we have to keep everyone safe!), and is going to ensure you think and vote correctly. So, there is that. But, if you're going down, you may as well go down in style!

I looked up the price of this piece of plastic. Almost 50 bucks! Should retail for 12 dollars tops. By the time you invest in sound and paint you'll have close to $80 into this. That would buy one self a good bottle of single malt.
