Nice selection. Rockstar Ate My Hamster. Loved that game, but always failed miserably. Harry Human always made me chuckle being a bit of a Numan fan back then. Chuckie Egg is a great and addictive game. Get's pretty tough in the later stages (well, impossible really). One I dug out a few weeks ago: Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Remember it baffling me at the time and I didn't play it too much. After getting a few pointers on KZbin and trying it out again, its actually quite an impressive game.

Some good picks there. Another game that I would add is Tornado Low Level/T.L.L.) from Vortex software which had awesome smooth multidirectional scrolling which was unusual for a Spectrum game. It had a great sense of speed and was very challenging. Yie Ar Kung Fu from Imagine is another important game which was an excellent conversion of the Konami coin-up. It was one of the first 128k enhanced game and the 128k version had enhanced graphics, extra stage and music over the 48k version. It was a trail blazing game and had an impressive amount of moves with the toggle between punches and kick moves which was implemented. The Wally Week series of games from Mikro-Gen are interesting as well - Automania, Pyjamarama, Everyone's A Wally, Herbert's Dummy Run, Three Weeks in Paradise. Anyone who experienced these games when they came out couldn't have failed to have been impressed with them.

If you’re going to put a modified version of Elite on the Speccy then I recommend “Elite Legend” - it’s the original game plus all the ships/stations/missions from the other 8-bit versions of the game, and lots of extra too like passenger missions, new equipment, more commodities, more ships (and the ability to buy new ships), several station types in a system, and lots more different encounter scenarios. It’s all designed to run on original 128k hardware too.
@PoppetTV3 ай бұрын
So what is the version in the video? I hadn’t realised people were modding it!
@AriochMT3 ай бұрын
It looks like a version that came out in 2019 though I haven’t played that particular modded version. I’ve tried “Elite 3” and a few variants but Elite Legend beats them all imo - you can easily imagine it being the 128k version we never got in ‘87. I’m not keen on the mods that change the scanner and stuff.

I think it's definitely not over priced. Seems like a game you get hours and hours of fun from, and they are priceless. The No Man's Sky Thing was just a vague reference. I would imagine their dev team were heavily influenced by Elite, but of course I could be wrong! Thanks for your kind words

Did use to get Crash, from later 1986; I am very surprised to learn that Chuckie Egg was only rated circa 80%, back in the day, in the magazines. A really playable addictive game, imo. Renegade for ZX Spectrum, It really does play great, it's hard and fast but that's how it should be played. One final comment Atic Atac, Cobra are brilliant games. And at least the next 3'games you have listed, too. I hope all others will continue to enjoy the video to complete the 20; 19 & 20, yes total bangers, both brilliant, imo!
