I made these around the time this video came out and I remember them turning out perfectly! Only instead of using Kool-Aid for the flavor and color, I took advice from your rainbow rice krispy treats and used gelatin mix. For the red part, I actually used a watermelon flavored gelatin mix that's of the Jolly Ranchers brand and it is *delicious* in rice krispies!

A recommendation...lay out some chocolate chips on the bottom of the pan prior to spreading out the red layer, and then once again top with the chocolate chips, that way you have chocolate on both sides!!

We have red, orange, purple and the green kind at our grocery store (Foodland in Ontario). I remember when we were kids, there were many other flavours available (blue, a clear one that tasted cherry is what I remember), seems that the store just don`t carry them anymore.

I find it funny when in shows such as Cake Boss or Ace of Cakes, they use rice krispies treats to make weird shapes for the cakes... I'd order a cake made of rice krispies, and allow them to put pieces of cake here and there, hehe, just LOVE rice krispies treats, especially home made :3

I made these one time with a friend and they turned out great!!!!! The only thing that i would suggest to other viewers is that you could also use green food coloring or watermelon flavored kool-aid.

These would be fine for hot weather. These don't really go off after a couple of days, they just get hard. I think you could make them 2 days prior and store them in a covered container and they will be fine.

i just made these and they are so delicious! i used watermelon koolaid though, instead of cherry, and it came out lighter in color than i thought it would, but i didn't have any food coloring to darken it. still delicious and super cute, though :)

I'll bet you could add some raisins/chocolate chips on the bottom of the pan *before* you add the red layer of krispies - pressing the red layer down as you put it in the pan, & that would give you watermelon looking seeds on both sides when you cut them out. =) Thanks for the fun recipe!
