I’m a 33-year aerospace engineer worked on McDonnel Douglas, Boeing and Airbus, Bombardier and Embraer, Lockheed aircraft, but this is a first time I learned about the YS-11. Thank you for sharing this incredible footage. 🇺🇸 🇯🇵

Worked at KIAD dulles D.C. for 32 year , in the very early 90's a cargo contractor was using a YS11 once a week to move something. It was always packed in large wooden crates

The YS-11 had a fairly nice flying career in Brazil, on the wings of both VASP and Cruzeiro do Sul airlines. A very noble successor to the DC-3 and DC-4 types. VASP airlines friendly nicknamed their YS-11s as 'Samurai', displaying the name on each aircraft vertical stabilizer. They flew between 1972 and 1977. After that, many aircraft returned to Japanese operators, and still had a long flying life well into the 1990s.
Piedmont Airlines in the US flew YS-11s for many years. We'd fly them a lot between North Carolina and Washington, DC. I always thought it was a neat little airplane.

設計そのままでジェットエンジンに換装したら良さそうだけど100人位乗れれば需要有りそう。

Japan shouldn't have caved to US pressure and continued civilian aircraft projects

They did not . Even to this day Mitsubishi Kawasaki fuji heavy industries ( now part of Toyota) and others have a very robust aerospace industry that dose loads of sub-contractor work for the entire world.
