I think you should open combat with the windlass crossbow from super close range; like a lot of these times you sneak up on someone and melee them, you could have just had your windlass out first while you were waiting in the dark. Shoot them point blank, then switch to your primary and finish them off. Nothing makes even the most geared player panic like a surprise windlass headshot. I never try to go for any shot with crossbow that’s further than like 10 feet, because I’m always looking for it as a front loaded burst shotgun. It’s also really good as a mixup; let’s say you start off meleeing, and as you’re going back and forth, if they take a few steps back but are still planning to engage, you can whip out the crossbow for a quick punish and switch back after.

totally hear you on the panic a headshot induces -- my only concern is getting tapped by my opponent after the shot / while switching back to my sword&shield.. you can see that happen at 17:18 and I'm not sure what do do about it !!

listen dude play the way you want. when i first saw your videos i had a pretty big respect for the idea that you were like "ehh im just not gonna confine to ranged meta and play my own way" that is the problem with this community is there's too many people saying you have to play in certain ways. I've been playing this game since ea released and I've been playing your fighter build as of recent and learned blocking because it looked fun, I do run a crossbow on mine, however its almost completely unnecessary in almost every situation and id even argue that I've had more situations where a chase weapon would have been more viable. I have ran some extremely bis versions of your build this wipe and I hardly ever even think to use the crossbow when I run them. I ran crossbow on fighter to put pressure on caster and range classes, that's unnecessary when you're good at blocking. ill also say i play this build in a non rat way, no turning off lights and creeping or any of that, I'm not shit talking or anything im just saying you don't need the crossbow even if you're not utilizing stealth.

hey really appreciate this comment!! all your points resonate with me and I def don't feel 'pressured' to play any certain way -- more just taking some inspo from all the friendly YT folks to try things I wouldn't necessarily otherwise. also got the feeling that in the highest pressure HR fights, I don't think I'll be thinking about my crossbow too much, just because I know how much more effective I can be with those micro-moments pressuring with my shield out. glad to hear that you've run some bis kits with shield fighter, and that the back-up ranged piece isn't even really necessary.. sounds like you're a few steps more advanced from me and I like what you have to say :) good luck out there & maybe we can play together sometime!!

@@YourBoyBlinn You're honestly more consistent at blocking then I am and probably better on fighter all together to be honest. Your kit buildings not bad either I just know how to really juice it from playing slayer fighter a bit last wipe and know how most of the stats in the game work. I main bard, I just play fighter when I start wanting to not have to do so much in a fight and would also like to multi class them lol. I would be down though man, might be able to show you a thing or two. Might even show me something.

@@YourBoyBlinn Yea Meta talks can be toxic. I play warlock in every game I play just because I like the mini-game of balancing health loss/gain with spells and damage, but people hated on me sooo much because they thought I was playing Meta lol I been playing DaD for a looong time and have been waiting for a warlock class so when it became available I jumpe on it. Now even with the nerfs I still play it because its about the fun you're having in the game loop, not the meta. Sure, dying to the meta a ton sucks (landmine rogues) but it doesnt stop me from playing. I only play HR when my inventory is full of bis. I mostly play squire zero to hero every session with warlock and LOOOVE helping new players and have even done fighting lessons with noobs in gob caves who kept missing my blocks and I stop mid fight before they die and say "here lemme help you" lol DaD can be so much fun when ppl arent toxic and filled with vengence lol

Your Edit are getting really good. you are defently going in the right way. good intro i defently laugh at that, also with the text when you miss the shots or when you talk. keep doing it makes it way more fun. also can recommend when you have player who also talk in game putting title to read wat they say could be good and also funny depends wat they say. One thing wat i also recommend is put the in game sound a little lower and put a background music. Can be also funny when you have a cool combat and having a combat music or when somebody does something silly having music in the back round can be also good. Really good video and i had a lot of fun watching it :D Keep it up !!

Blinn I’m back for anotha tip, when you ask about pricing, a tip is to go to market check rarity and then filter the best roll on the gear to get a rough estimate on what it’s worth/will sell for.

@@YourBoyBlinn yes but it will vary wildly depending on rolls is what I’m saying, like filter the best roll on a piece gear to get the closest price evaluation = more gold. Also weapons with bad rolls will sell if it’s a sought after weapon in the current meta. Love the sneaky shield play it’s actually hilarious, these people def think it’s a rogue that’s about to stab them so when they see a full blown fighter coke out of the shadows it’s gotta be terrifying.

hey man thanks! glad I found a small pocket of skill expression in the melee of this game, since after running Slayer for so long I got a bit bored of the spacing/kiting play style. and yes, totally not afraid of Barbs anymore!! can even block/power through their debuffs and crack skulls for their tasty loot! haha good luck to you!!

Hey Blinn, i'm back with another report: My fighter is lvl 40 now and is sitting in Pathfinder 1. I've been enjoying weapon mastery with recurve/longbow lately, it really helps with warlocks in this meta and you can just spam them outside their curse range. Also, if you feel extra spicy you can run with windlass crosbow + bow(recurve preferably) and snipe somebody with that juicy AWP then instantly swap to a bow. Would love to see you try my tech now after i played with yours haha. As always, keep it up, i'll be back in the next video.

Some days it its like you cant miss with the crossy and other days you'd swear desync is eating your bolts. A fun normals crossbow centric fighter build id recommend for crossbow practice is slayer with windlass, hand crossbow, and arming sword. You've gotten really gd good at blocking of course, but running a ms slayer without a shield once and a while is a good perspective reset on what attacks you actually have to block and which ones can just be dodged. I personally find myself fishing for blocks a little to hard running heater fighter, although if I was as good with the sheild as you that wouldnt be near as much a problem lol. Good stuff

yeah def just starting out with the extra range, and I can already see how variable the crossbow can behave :) great idea to flip back to Slayer for some perspective on the attacks. keep your shield up, blocking is definitely something that gets easier with time!!

I feel like i miss my shots a lot more when I'm moving to the sides, when I'm just static or going in a straight line they almost always land, wich it is the opposite as in the bow who let's you trade way more consistently while moving or dodging 😅

i love watching your videos brother. another great one for the books! the addition of crossbow is a very smart play. dont RELY on it, however, take every opportunity you can to win every fight you come into. opening with a successful crossbow shot will only help you win more. if you miss? oh well, fall back to your defense first playstyle and take the honorable fight!

@@YourBoyBlinn And unlike with the crossbow if you missing with the halberd while using victory strike so long as you don't hit a shield or terrain you don't waste the strike and the follow up attacks can still use it.

Would it be viable to reload your crossbow while chasing down a phantomized warlock? Seems like whenever phantomize spells are used, the player is trying to flee the furthest distance. You can activate sprint to get some groundage but i bet it's relieving to know you don't have to be in striking distance, just another free crossbow shot once they phase back in?

hmmm the move speed penalty when reloading the crossbow is extreme, and the warlock gets a speed boost from phantomize, so it's usually not my play.. I'd prefer to put my weapons away and chase him full tilt, and catch him with melee one he's out of scaredy-cat mode :) typically caster warlocks don't want to be up close for melee, so keeping the pressure on is better than trying to reload and letting them create space for more curses or more kiting.

i run with windlass crossbow + falchion/arming shield and in inventory bow or xbow (if i miss with windlass or don't oneshot ) ... windlass + victory strike = pain in the ass

oh man, once I get better at hitting crossbow shots, can't wait to bring Victory Strike back into the mix... sounds like the windlass is unmatched in terms of 1-shot ranged damage hunh?

@@YourBoyBlinn In normal with a normal windlass (from squire) if you activate vicotry strike and hit in head you can make 83-87 dmg ... basically you can oneshott 3/4 of classes like rogues, rangers, mages ecc ecc ... or if don't die with a first shot you can kill with a throwing axe or knife or with 1 hit XD... it's very funny the animation of victory strike if you instantkill someone

just because its legendary (yellow) the axe the barb had , doesnt mean its worth anything you woulda made a ton more money taking his kit instead of filling up on his 300 gold axe

yeah I did a quick look at the market first to get a pricing baseline, but also don't have much experience pricing/selling legendary gear -- hope I get to loot more in the future!! haha
