Love the videos, I think I’ve watched everyone for the T5! You’ve saved me a fortune as I’ve ended up doing loads of work on my T5 off the back of these A common problem is radial play in the steering wheel which is caused by the intermediate shaft. Mines got an annoying 5-10mm off free play in the wheel but my mechanic says it’s absolutely fine… Have you had any issues with this? If you ever look into it or replace I’d likely get the confidence to sort mine out myself as I don’t think it’s a big job
@YTDTETV5 ай бұрын
Hey bud ah thank you really appreciate the kind words and glad the videos are useful 🙏👍👍, my caddy has this play but I havnt looked into it, I’ll check the T5 next time I’m sat in it. Do you mean the steering coloumn? Ie the shaft inside the cab? Thanks
@VinnieTheVanno5 ай бұрын
@@YTDTETV I believe it’s part number 7E2419751C that causes most of the steering wheel radial play with the T5’s. It seems pretty common from a bit of online digging but I havnt been brave enough to buy a replacement unit and start pulling bits apart without seeing someone else have done it first
@YTDTETV5 ай бұрын
@@VinnieTheVanno I’ve just eBay searched that number and seen one, yep I’ve changed a few of those in my time but not on a transporter, there a little uj joint in their i wonder if it’s the uj or the splines moving. On the cars I’ve replaced them on you can undo both ends then slide the shaft upwards inside and pull them out inside. When doing this make sure your wheels are pointing straight and have the steering lock on as if the steering wheel turns while apart not only will it be sat wonky while driving straight when you go on full lock it can damage the airbag ribbon behind the steering wheel. You can mark stuff with a black pen to double check when going back together 👍👍

Great video as always . Just noticed where my shaft goes in to gearbox on passenger side there is a small weep of oil could you help with this is it a seal and also how do you che k gearbox oil level
@YTDTETV5 ай бұрын
Hi Michael thank you 👍 so that would tell me it’s the drive shaft seal. You would need to drain the gearbox fully from the plug on the bottom then remove the drive shaft then under that is the cup, you need to undo the Allen key and remove that then you will see a seal. They come out with a screw driver or a hook pick then tap the new seal in so it sits flush. When filling the gearbox there is a matching plug the same as the drain half way up the gearbox, can’t remember if it’s on the side by the driveshaft or on the front, you then fill it with gear oil until the fluid starts overflowing out the filler hole and that is your level. Best way of checking the oil is to remove the filler plug and stick a shoe lace or something in there to see if it’s up to the hole or dropped. Hope that helps 👍
