For any game, giving players more options to play how they want will always lead to a happier playerbase overall
@AmazonessKing01 Жыл бұрын
Didn't work with Runeterra, you could say whatever you want about the game, but formats didn't help one bit, you are just dividing your playerbase further, if you need to have alternative game modes so the game is fun, maybe the problem is with the game. You are not solving anything that way, just a temporary solution at best that only restricts which cards can you use further without actually adressing the problem.

A great example of this is pokemon showdown. There's tons of formats and formats that include older generation rulesets. Something like this for yugioh would be relatively easy to introduce in master duel and the ocg, the tcg would have some problems but I feel like that only matters for tournaments
@koopatroopagamer2854 Жыл бұрын
Odd example but a good display of this is in WWE 2K23. The core mechanics of the game are instilled in every mode: the grapples, the slams, the weapons, the different spots, the pins, everything. What changes is the way those matches can and are played out and why they’re played out. You want it to be a trading card game? MyFactions. You want to screw around in the different modes it gives you? Exhibition mode. You want to script the matches? Play with a friend and do it that way. You want to make your own shows? MyGM. You want to make your own brand? MyUniverse. You don’t like the matches it gives you? Make your own. You don’t like the arenas in the game? Make your own! You don’t like the wrestlers themselves??? MAKE YOUR OWN!!! Its a bunch of ways to do the same thing and it makes it so much more fun. YuGiOh would benefit greatly from something like that.

I played yugioh as a kid and got back into it recently and my three biggest complaints are that turns take too long with all the summons, too many negates to shut down the opponent, and a ton of cards that're good but aren't good enough to compete against modern decks. There needs to be formats so you can play average decks without getting constantly bodied once you reach high ranks.

My only concern with ever getting older formats in Master Duel is that MD primarily follows the OCG (Japan’s) banlist. It’s why cards are Maxx C, Verte Anaconda, and Chaos Ruler are still legal while cards like Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is banned. If we get older formats in MD, its most likely gonna more resemble the cards that japan had at the time, not NA. It’ll mostly be the same, but cards like The Tricky, Magician of Black Chaos, and Blue-Eyes Ultimate would be included even though they aren’t in our retro format. It makes me wonder how popular retro formats are in Japan. If their player base is begging for it too, I think we’d have a fighting chance to get what we wish.

So, there is a (I’d argue) better format, but it’s only in the OCG. Rush duels are basically the more sped up, more simple speed duel format. I definitely agree with multiple format support. Having only the meta focused/competitive format that's the standard atm is only one way to play the game. Nothing wrong with it, but for a lot of people, that isn't the only way they want to play. Goat, Eddison, Speed/Rush, Tag, and even a Singleton format would give just about all of the fans a niche to fit in that they enjoy most. Shift the current format to a rotational one. It'd be a big task, but it'd help filter out a lot of the toxic cards and could help Konami design more balanced cards in the future. They could create another format (Unlimited/Legacy) where it'd be open season and use all the cards minus the banned ones. MtG has a lot of formats for just about everybody (Standard, Modern, Commander, CEDH, Pauper, Pioneer, Plane Chase, Brawl, Oathbreaker, Cube, etc.). I think Konami really needs to catch up in that regard. Yugioh has over 10k cards. That's way too many to be limited to only one official way to play.

To be fair I’m playing Demise and ruin deck just bc I like big axe users so I get it and not trying to be competitive. But playing against a board where 2 monsters negate and one banishes or sends my card back to the hand is just boring. I like goat format more since there’s less people can do and thus more suspense.

Monsters having the ability to negate cards was the start of the downward spiral imo. Floodgates became popular because of all the negates monster boards set up. The way I look at it at least today, there are two worlds that exist in Yu-Gi-Oh. Light and Dark if you will. The light being, playing with your friends who enjoy and respect the game as much as you where you can let your guard down, play a fun deck and just have a great time, which is what I believe the creators originally intended. The dark being the less fun competitive world of Yu-Gi-Oh where it's just to see what has a higher percentage of winning where no thinking is involved. It isn't about fun anymore, aka Kash, Tears, Lab etc. It's about seeing what wins, which is still good because it pushes players to develop strategies to overcome that. When I play against Kash, Tears etc. I don't feel like I'm playing against a human being. It feels like playing a bot that only knows how to run through a script which is neither skillful, original or respectful to the game.

I'm a Magic the Gathering player who's recently gotten back into the game after quitting around 2012. The game has been nearly overwhelming, and I have to read so many cards just to understand what's happening. Without Master Duel I wouldn't have even bothered. Something Magic does that I think Yu-Gi-Oh could benefit from is different formats. I think you're totally correct there. Host tournaments with GOAT decks, or the Edison format. Or create a new format like Magic's standard format. In standard, you can only play cards from sets released around the past two or so years. Perhaps if Yugioh had a format like that they could balance for that format, and leave all the busted stuff for a different format. That would solve the problem of having old cards become super toxic and relevant again, while still allowing for fresh, new cards.

I talked about this before with friends and in comments of other videos discussing this topic. The best example of a community made format just blowing up is Commander in MtG. Some would argue it's even more popular then standard now. Literally MtG makes structure decks now for Commander and basically only Commander. They leaned into what their community wants to play and honestly Konami just needs to follow suit. They need to lean further into other formats to appeal to the wider audience.

Preach! My boy Rhyme out there spitting fire. I mean, at this point just have Konami hire Rhyme for a couple of months and we can have formats. Personally when I see a massive shitstorm of a board I get so tired I don't even try anymore. It is fun to break a board and win a game you had no business winning. One of my favorite moments in MD was breaking a Flow deck in Ranked with my Winged Dragon of Ra deck and barely winning, but after the 300th mega T0 board I just can't anymore. I see a Kash card, I don't care if you are good at playing it or just picked it up and don't know what to do with it, you are communicating to me, and everyone else, you want to play single player Yu-Gi-Oh, so I just insta quit and let you go play by yourself. I can't be bothered. Formatting would fix all of these issues. You want to bust your head against the T0 mega boards and win by breaking them? Cool, go ranked. Want to play slower games where you can actually have a 15 turn game? Play Edison. As it stands, and as much as I hate to say it, Yu-Gi-Oh is a bad game with great moments every once in a long while, and that's not good. We have no new blood coming in and people's stupid mentality of "They just aren't' playing the game right" and "Yu-Gi-Oh is supposed to be insanely unfriendly to new players! That's THE CHARM" is expediting the death of the game.

I’ve been playing Yugioh for I think little over a year now and while I respect deck building and archetypes, it’s not fun when you’re going against the same thing over and over again and you have to play ranked in order to even get a chance for cards you want in master duel. But I’m also at a point where I’d say make Dragoon limited. But that would also cause problems on both ends because with red eyes fusion it’s so easy to get out and people would add it to their deck cause it’s such a powerful card. I, as a newish player, think formats would be great. I loved the deck master format from the show I wish they capitalized on it. I’d play that a lot. I just wish Konami would listen to the fans but at the same time theirs always two sides to the fandoms and what they want. It’s always a conflicting opinion but adding formats would help so many, and it wouldn’t hurt the other side. So my take in all this, is add options. Not forced options. Options that would, possibly make things easier for newer players like Goat or Edison, and have them learn the game from the absolute basics, and learn things through when they first appeared, like Fusion first, and then Synchro, stuff like that. Options never hurt anybody. Forced options, will hurt everyone.

Hell, I'm even attempting to make my own format with the card collection I have. I just really want Yugioh to succeed and not have so much discourse between players. This game is simply fantastic no matter how you look at it, it's something I'm sure Kazuki Takahashi would have wanted.

For official tournaments yes this idea will remain too ambitious because yes they would need entirely separate banned/limited lists for each format. In terms of unofficial or in master duel I mean nobody is stopping u from starting up ur own tournaments with those formats. But with almost what like 13000+ cards and increasing, the officials just dont have the patience or the want to put in that kinda effort. As for why people hate on different formats is because of the difference in how complex each person wants the game to be. Most people who prefer OG yugioh prefer it for its simplicity, while most modern players prefer the high complexity combos.
@1216shadow Жыл бұрын
Tldr: I play yugioh like a sociopath and build decks hard focused on consistently killing the meta. To be fair this idea had been implemented in MTG quite a long time ago. Mostly because they were having the same problem with balancing and power creep. So now only certain cards are allowed in certain formats with only a few formats allowing most of the cards. For example the modern format only allows cards newer than MTG 9th addition sets. While standard only allows cards from the last 3-5 card sets. I still enjoy yugioh myself even though I prefer it when it was simpler. I do like the challenge of trying to make more modern decks sweat a little. Like not using meta cards at all and building an anti-meta that doesn't use any of the staples. Last time I did that and had a solid strategy in mind was when pendulums were meta. I looked at the biggest weakness I could find in that mechanic. And exploited it due to how popular that mechanic was. The anti-pendulum deck was so solid. That it made some of the strongest decks from that format surrender.

Something akin to the rotating extra modes system in Apex Legends would be very refreshing in Master Duel (it would take tweaking and changes admittedly). Id rather have even 2 or 3 turns of back and forth before shit becomes impossible. Thats just me. Still love the game. Got to the point that I built my decks off of shit that I liked the look of. I made a Cubic deck because I loved the art. Didnt know how they played until I tried them against a friend. Thats how almost all my decks are. I prefer pure archtype decks. You're spot on for turn one locks being annoying, but counterplays to them do exist with Kaijus or old school cards like Lava Golem or Sphere mode Ra. Also if you ever are willing to give pendulums a chance I recommend you try out either Igknights or Dinomist. Igknights are extremely simple as all but some bosses are normal monsters without an effect, while their pendulum effect is the exact same across all cards from it, making it very easy to learn and give you all the time you need to be used to the mechanic. Dinomist have a great theme of being robotic dinosaurs which stomp anything on their way, their effects are not too complex and all low scale pendulum cards share the exact same pendulum effect and all high scale pendulum cards share the exact same effect, making it easy to learn as well as there being consistency ontop. Master Duel in particular has a solo mode for Dinomist as well if you want to try them out without pulling for the cards.

It’s literally the GT vs Super arguments all over again… “Oh Super sucks, you like that trash?” Or “GT isn’t canon, you serious enjoy that show?” It’s absolutely ridiculous, LET PEOPLE ENJOY THINGS! DBS Card Game has this too, I enjoy playing the Ginyu Force deck but people judge my tastes because the deck isn’t “meta”… ok, and?? Stay true to who you are people and enjoy yourselves! Life is too short to always go with the flow of an opposing ideology… in terms of what Rhyme is saying here, I think he’s pretty spot on for the majority of this video!

It should’ve been like a Jinchuriki thing in Naruto. Broken cards should’ve always JUST been archetypal. Which would create incentive to play certain decks. When certain cards became generic, it made Yugioh a game of rock, paper, scissors.

I just got my wife into Yugioh, she didn't grow up on it like we did. I taught her the basic rules. We play in person, and she enjoyed it. Well I downloaded Master Duel on her Xbox. She nearly cried of anger because she just started out and she fought Tears in the lowest possible rank for her 1st online master duel match. That was a horrible experience for her and she hasn't touched it since. They really do need to fix the game.

Dino im in your Team i play all Formats but the old one the slower ones are my favorite. Why ? Because 1/3 of your Decks are not Handtraps and it was every time possible to play. Mondern Day YGO is allways Turn one decides everything in 90 % . I miss this time when every Player tried to create his own Deck with his own Ideas . How to play old format in modern era: 1. Normal Summon old card (Raioh/Fossil Dyna/Banisher of Radiance, anything you like) 2. Equip some spells (Mage Power is good old card, but I recommend Moon Mirror Shield, it's newer card but it's effect is simple enough I promise you. Basically your monster never lose a battle and it can recycle if it destroyed.) 3. Set some old traps (Solemn Judgment/Mirror Force) Now you can also compete using old cards. Oh and if you going second, try include old cards like Lava Golem or Duster.

The simple answer to this question, to me at least, is to have set rotation. I know, "there is already set rotation" in the game, there isn't really. When you implement actual set rotation in the game you can really simplify the game because you don't have to worry about interactions with cards that are 10 plus years old. Right now, what we call set rotation basically just amounts to the new set has cards that are more broken than the previous set. Those cards only have to be as broken as they are because of all of the interactions with cards that haven't seen play for more than a decade. The issue with set rotation in Yu-Gi-Oh is that the game is built around Archetypes and not themes (e.g. Black in magic having heavy graveyard interactions). People have gotten attached to their archetype, and want to keep playing it. You can't reasonably implement a set rotation system while keeping all of the popular archetypes in a legal format all the time. For example, I love the Salad archetype, and if they fell out of being legal to play for years that would suck and would limit my ability to enjoy the game. But it would also force me to pick up and play a new kind of deck because I want to keep playing the game.
@daanschoenmaker5686 Жыл бұрын
I believe a special summon limit would fix a lot. Yes, some decks will be less likely to be played. But how is that different from the situation we are in now. Of course, there would be one difference. The game will be forced to last longer. Simply because less is happening. This will give slower decks a chance to keep up. In my opinion a summon limit of 5 monsters would feel fair. Then the chance of creating a unbreakable board will be reduced inmensly. Perhaps it gives trap cards even a chance to return.
@jurassictyrantkingYT9 ай бұрын
I'm hoping legendary creatures like Blue-Eyes White dragon, Dark Magician, Red Eyes black dragon, and Summoned Skull get proper retrains for today's format. I would love to see these cards still be be treated as any of these legendary monsters but also have effects that would help them easily come onto the field much faster, but also have the same effect as the Egyptian gods where when these cards are special summon or normal summoned their summoning many cannot be negated. It would be so cool if we don't have to use the original Monsters in our decks anymore truly would be sad but let's just be honest the normal monsters in any TCG tournament are obsolete at this point and the archetypes are suffering as a result of no retrains of these legendary cards.

MTG has every format from classic to modern and players swarm over it, Yu-Gi-Oh! could really benefit from doing the same, players should be having fun, not arguing. I have played both since the first format, Rhyme is right, nostalgia sells and at the end of the day we are all playing the same game.
@SmexiiWade Жыл бұрын
We really should have more tournament options because locals would be jam packed, friendships will be made, rivals too. I love all the formats but favor modern. What I despretally want is variety in comp play.
@khananiel-joshuashimunov4561 Жыл бұрын
I'd like a gradient rating system for decks, probably run by the community. Then you find someone to play with with a similar "power level". Think about Warhammer 40K, for example. You build an army for a certain budget. If I want a smaller more intimate experience, 1K pts each is great. If I want a big crazy battle, 4K gives you more than you know what to do with. Also, combo-banning (or ranking if we adopt that idea). I love my Fairy Tail Snow, among her sisters in my charmer deck. I have no way to recycle banished cards (or dump into GY), so I barely ever get to resolve that graveyard effect. But some decks can turn a one, maybe two, removal card into an infinite combo. There are so many interesting cards on the ban list that we don't use because of a specific combo or use-case. And we kind of do that already, right? At least on the casual level. If you play a deck that stomps someone every single time, you switch to more rogue deck eventually just to have a good game.

Konami knows that if they introduce old formats then most of the playerbase will go play those instead and leave modern a barren wasteland and they wont be able to sell new cards anymore 😂

I mean, Synchros and XYZs are no more complicated than Fusions honestly. Pendulum was when it got absurd.
@ZeothTheHedgehog Жыл бұрын
Pendulum can easily be summarized imo, people just over complicate them. Pendulum Summon just needs 2 cards in specific zones, and then allow you to Special Summon monsters from the hand whose levels are between the numbers beneath the red/blue arrows. Pendulum Monsters that would be sent from the field to GY are instead placed face-up in the Extra Deck, and can then be Pendulum Summoned to Zones a Link Monster points to. That's it, I explained everything you need to know about Pendulums in two paragraphs.
@CountDVB Жыл бұрын
True, but I think that is what led to Special Summoning madness partially. Links was kinda interesting if a bit weird.
@IamNster Жыл бұрын
Imo Pendulum Summons was when the summoning mechanics began to jump the shark. Synchros and XYZ were and still pretty simple concepts to wrap your head around (Add/Kinda Sorta Multiply the numbers respectively), but it got ridiculous when they added a mechanic that allows you to set up two cards and flood the field with a bunch of effect monsters immediately. Also this game is HORRIBLY balanced outside of those mechanics, but don't even get me started with that. Edit: I'm not saying Pendulum is broken. There are definitely more cards that are broken in the other mechanics (*cough* Baronne de Fleur *cough*) I'm just saying that it was possibly the start of when summoning mechanics got a bit ridiculous and just kept getting worse from there.

A crazy idea in the working but a special zone on each side of the board that can be used once per game per player for a limited amount of time that temporarily allows for the use of one banned from the game, that allows the banned to played under certain circumstance while offering specific advantage or advantages to the opposing player with an effect of their choice (such as protection from a deck out or lp reaching 0) at the cost of other player using the zone. This creates an in game mechanic that nerfs banned card while still allowing them to be played while also encouraging more cards than interrupt the regular flow of the game to be banned. Maybe even make the banned card that's chosen as random as if someone were picking from a side deck.

As someone who grew up with classic Yugioh, dropped it and came back with Master Duel? Having the option to just go old school would have made things way better than facing the same 3 meta decks over and over and over again and no friends who play it online my choices were build a meta deck like them which, if I'm not having fun playing against them then why would I build that deck just to compete and run in to people who are in MY position of "I'm tired of facing these same decks", or just drop the game again....and I picked the latter. Honestly they remove casual mode because its Meta without having to worry about rank loss 9-10 players still be playing most toxic modern Meta so thr mode is pointless. Replace it with Edison and Goat formats following their exhisting banlist. Guarantee ppl would come back and play. Did online poll of 1000 people, 857 preferred Goat/Edison 143 perferred Modern Yu-Gi-Oh those are staggering statistics. Same for the TCG ppl grew up with older Yu-Gi-Oh it was quick turns,easy to understand,and fun to play modern Yu-Gi-Oh is the exact opposite.

I'm a very casual player, but I really feel like the main core problem that the new mechanics brought to the game is the super long combos, being able to infinitely special summon stuff in the same turn is what breaks the game. I really feel like if they limited the amount of special summons per turn would fix a lot of stuff, and decrease the complexity of the game for people that want to learn the game. But again I'm a very casual player, maybe I'm missing a big problem that that would cause lol

I agree. Honestly I don’t think they intended for people to summon like that per turn, It’s users overdoing it. I believe the intent was to make playing the card game in real life, like the show. Characters on the show don’t unload a million combos in one turn, but they never have dead turns either where they have to just pass because they didn’t draw anything. They always have plays… I think a special summon limit would fix a lot, but pendulum decks would take a bigger hit than others.

Real talk, just restrict it to the more non feedback loop summoning (AKA Syncro and older) styles and you fix like 80% of the problems folks have with modern Yugioh. Don't even have to full commit, just let folks filter out stuff like Link summoning or XYZs. No need to rewrite the format's.
