My favorite Era of yugioh is like the in-between Era. 5ds is what I mean. Old yugioh is too much like seesaw, or you get rolled with no way of coming back unless you get one of the old duel monsters banned cards. Then with modern yugioh, it's 20 minutes for a combo, good luck going second with 20 freaking negates on the enemy field. 5ds feels like a happy medium. Fun, but not incredibly long combos. A decent back and forth without feeling exhausted or it ending too quickly, and a good utilization of the extra deck where it still requires you to cost something or to build your deck around i.e. tuners and various polymerization/fusion methods. That's just my opinion.

If you guys play old school you should simulate the old school rules of the Turn 1 Player drawing on the 1st turn, by having the actual Turn 1 player skip their turn without playing any cards, and the Turn 2 player would technically be the 1st turn player as long as they don't conduct their battle phase, and just continue normal from there.

I used to play yu gi oh before my twenties and it was fun even had the cards and placemat. Didn’t play a lot IRL but online was fun. 2022 I got it on the PS4, only played a couple games. I got overwhelmed by all the things you could do. Now I enjoy watching people play it.

I like old formats tbh just cause i don't like the duel to end in 1 to 3 turns normally like if it's a rare thing that just need luck then it's cool but like it's more enjoyable to play a duel ror a couple of rounds having a multiple strategies and plays you use from time to time Every single deck have it's own experience to the point that sometimes if i play master duel i just play solo just cause of that Or go to play one of oldest games with limited cards like the og yugi oh chaos and the other ones where you just play against an ai in form of one of the 3 main characters decks from each anime

I like both old school and modern but if i had to choose 1, I prefer modern. Not gonna lie, Modern yugioh can suck.... alot lol but i just have so much love for some of the modern decks and cards. Like my favorite modern deck is the xyz Time Thiefs deck. Even though Redoer has been reduced to just a generic rank 4 that every deck plays. To me hes like my ace/boss monster . It generally feels exciting every time i get to summon him. Without moden Yugioh, I wouldn't have Time Thiefs or any of the other modern decks that i love playing.

Old school is best man I like playing the game and not having to wait 20 minutes for my opponent to take both of our turns summoning. It's also nice to play a format where you can win without having the exact same deck as everyone else that plays the game.

If you play modern draft, you get pretty much the old Yu-Gi-Oh experience, so I'm more of a "Random modern" rather than picking a particular old banlist with a meta built in stone, like goat with Chaos

I personally like modern Yugioh more than GOAT format since modern yugioh comebacks are CRIMINALLY underrated. I was up against tearlaments in ranked and was going second which is normally a death sentence….. but my opponent gave me one too many draws with a Maxx C. I didn’t have all of my tools, so I had to be careful with how I played my cards. I used bait after bait, hoping that the opponent would play into them, and eventually I got out my Cubic lords and obliterated him. It was glorious and I love how even against all odds those kind of wins can happen. It just takes patience and skill.

Older yugioh is better in my opinion. Duels lasted longer combos were very short. You understood what the cards meant. Higher chance if a comeback and since there was not so much removal there was more respect for face down back row and flip effects. It was a more user friendly time where people could come into the game and play fun games. It’s like the first months of duel links when there weren’t too many cards available or the first months of master duels

Idk what the format is but I always preferred playing 2009-13 era yugioh. There were a lot of fun combos, but also a lot of great one-offs, and enough deck varieties that you didn't always see the same repeats of cards like in these goat vids

To answer Rhyme's question - as someone who plays Yu-Gi-Oh!, MTG and as of recently the Digimon Card Game, I definitely prefer modern. Of course there is a lot of nostalgia in old Yu-Gi-Oh! and I love a lot of the cards, but tbh gameplay-wise it's just a MTG knock-off where I would rather play MTG. Modern has it's own identity with so many different approaches and different decks and strategies. The longer the game's lifespan the more interesting the deckbuilding becomes. I think the Progression Series shows that perfectly. And yes, playing ranked Master Duel, which is what most people seem to think is the modern experience, can be super frustrating and toxic, but that is literally any point of meta in Yu-Gi-Oh!, because there were always decks, that weren't fun to play against. Especially playing ranked with a fun deck, instead of the optimal meta. What I'm talking about is playing modern casually and just trying to make your favorite decks work and combo off on each other, or generally keeping to the same power level.

short answer, modern. variety and combos are the main factor for me. long answer: xyz era > edison > modern > goat. xyz and edison have enough deck variety and combos and the end boards aren’t overly obnoxious. goat is fun for a bit but gets boring fast for me since the card pool is small.

I like goat format because it's easier to digest from both a player's and spectator's point of view. I like edison because it has slightly more depth than goat but not towers levels of you can't win. I like modern for different reasons I like the board breaking instead of board building because it's almost always an uphill battle but when you finally dunk on them with kaijus and board wipes it feels so good. Though the most fun I've had was during Edison format.

I don't duel anymore but I would HATE to duel Rhyme, the dude in every duel has two cards that steal the opponents monsters, it's how he wins A LOT of his duels in these vids, which is a part of the game so it is what it is, it's not like it's against the rules but Do to and Dion need to bring a card to counter those if possible cause it's almost every duel where he has those cards lol it definitely makes it hard to want to summon a crazy monster cause it will just be taken Maybe a magic cylinders would be the out in case that happens so Rhyme still takes the damage, but they need cards to stop the effects of him taking their monsters.
