The end of 2011 was the 1st time i started playing at events. I remember going into a regional with a synchro deck, it was complete garbage, i had no money to buy any good synchro monsters and only played with cards i was able to pull from packs. I lost instantly, and remember going outside the main hall to cry. To my surprise the guy i lost to, got a couple of his friends together and they gave me a few cards for free like tengu, scrap dragon, catastor, and other cards. This inspired me to get better at the game, after that, and up untill 2016 or 17 i was going to all kinds of tournaments even managing to get a euro nationals top

I took second at YCS KC with basically this build, although it might have been Billy's. My dad passed a couple years ago and I often think about him being proud of that accomplishment, and him trying to cheer me up after dropping in finals. That warm memory might not exist if not for the massive collaboration effort you and others put in. It's ten years after the fact, but still wanted to say thank you. I also remember your dgz post calling the tempest magician in the side (it actually did win a round!). Great job with the series.

I'm fond of Plant Synchro because they were from an era before archetypes became mainstream. With archetypes, they are purposely designed to not work well outside of their archetype circles, thus allowing Konami to control the power level of decks. I don't like archetypes because Konami can basically dictate how decks can be built and how powerful they can be. Plant Synchro was a player-made deck when the game was more free despite the smaller cardpool which is why I'm fond of and have much nostalgia for it. Deck innovation isn't exactly dead in modern Yu-Gi-Oh!, but it is definitely stunted. I've designed a deck that is inspired by Plant Synchro in that it may look cobbled together, but it is a player-made deck that works extremely well and I have a lot of pride in it. - First, it is a Highlander deck, so there is one copy of each card at most. - Second, I only play cards I like, so cards like Ash Blossom are not played in it. Even if it's good, I won't play it if I don't like it. - Third, I prioritize my playstyle. There's no point in playing it if I don't have fun with it. Victory with "good" decks that don't suit my playstyle or enjoyment just feels hollow. The result: This is my master deck that is capable of performing Fusion, Synchro, XYZ, and Link summons that isn't D/D/D, @Ignister, or any archetype that Konami designed. This is a deck that I can truly call my own. Someday, I want to see player innovation be as great as it was during the Plant Synchro era, and my master deck is a manifestation of that hope.
