Fun fact about the Nouvelles deck : The Monster Zones are meant to represent the Restaurent floor and the Spell and Traps Zones is your kitchen. You play your Recipes and want your chefs in the backrow and your dishes up front, but when your opponent is dissatisfied with their meal and set their monsters in defense, the chef can step up to handle things personally before returning to the kitchen. Meanwhile, if you fail to serve the next course in this six-course meal, your opponent gets to smack you for failing to keep up.

Another thing I like to add to this comment is that the reason all of the monsters have stars on their body, is because they represent a "Michelin star" and according to their official page: A Michelin Star is awarded to restaurants offering outstanding cooking. We take into account five universal criteria: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavours, the mastery of techniques, the personality of the chef as expressed through their cuisine and, just as importantly, consistency both across the entire menu and over time.

A fun thing: the demons referenced for the names are correctly ordered according to their rank in the Ars Goetia. Buer, Foras, Botis and Glasya-Labolas are all lower-ranking Presidents, whereas Balam and Baal/Bael are higher-ranking Kings. The art is also spot on as well! Buer is described as having five goat legs arranged round his body (which the lil demon guy seems to have), Botis has big teeth and two horns when assuming a human form, Glasya-Labolas is a winged dog kind of thing, and Baal/Bael is a big toad-cat-human hybrid. A lot of creative effort was obviously put into these!

I've been having fun with this archetype ever since it arived in Master Duel and the fact that it beats over Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon has made the current Ritual event a lot of fun, as well as helps deal with some of the more...annoying decks to duel against (bloody Kashtira) As for lore, I'm going to assume that somewhere down the line some cultists hid their version of the Ars Goetia in coded recipes and claimed to be chefs, possibly trying to secretly summon demons. However they wound up both enjoying and being such a sucsessful resturant they dropped their planned mass summoning and just focused on their 'cover', with the demons not minding since I guess eating the food made at Nouvelles imparts a little bit of soul energy or something to the demon whose coded 'recipe' became that dish, and the demons subsequently thought 'why bother fighting and killing for a lot of souls for a short amount of time when we can have a decent supply that lasts a lot longer With maybe the demons having a bit of competitiveness, making sure their dish tastes the best on the menu so they get the majority of souls/energy. Edit: As for the possible Patisciel archetype, maybe a rival bakery prayed for help against Nouvelles and the heavens answered, noticing the demonic influence and decided to fight fire with fire...or in this case, infused food with infused food, with probably some of the various ranks of angels like the Powers or Principalities becoming tasty baked goods. The Nouvelles fish chef, who's main dish seems to be a fusion of Taiyaki and possibly crepes might have formerly worked with Patisciel but quit and 'fell' to Nouvelles, hence why she's a fairy.

My theory on the Ritual Monsters is that they possess the food upon being summoned. So it would look like regular food is moving and attacking on it's own. It would also imply that Hungry Burger is another Goetia demon that's possessing food.

They remind me a lot of Shokugeki no Soma, especially the female chef. She looks almost identical to Erina Nakiri. The same way the Dragonmaids were inspired by Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.

This is something I love about Yu-Gi-Oh and how many archetypes there are and it basically transcends time. You can have archetypes based on ancient spirits, demons, dragons, you can equally have archetypes based around real or mystical animals, and you can just have stuff like this which is based on a restaurant aha.

this deck has so much potential since its all based on food the recipes are endless and the fact that deserts are also going to be linked to it as extension is good also. if Konami does it right this will be the best ritual deck ever probably as its only at lvl 6 currently and it can go up to easily lvl 10 or 11ritual monsters, plus the male chef card

-Nachos for teeth? 1:14 Hope they aren’t facing up when you take a bite I like that some of the Master duel footage has a food board and a sushi to the left -I kind of want the lore to be that the demon summoning upon opening the food is just a gimmick. As the saying goes “food tastes better when you eat with someone.” This could also be me just hoping that for all the demons and monsters, the place genuinely wants to serve, much like this “Restaurant to another world” which this video shows a scene of at 8:55 This could also be beneficial for the demons as well. As maybe the demon could absorb the eater’s essence/soul harmlessly as they eat, both by not being too forceful and having chill conversations and from the customer being so enticed by the food.

The Michelin stars are awarded to restaurants for a few different criteria, but essentially it was started by the tire company and they put out guides of restaurants that are worth the detour when driving.

I'm pretty sure that this archetype is based around Food Wars. The "Culinary Confrontation" card pretty much confirms it to me, and I think the "staff recipe" card might be directly referencing the staff lunch they served at a french restaurant in one episode in the anime.

There's actually a reason for the chefs to be fairy type, and it ties in to the darklords Seeing as how you're summoning demons using food, that ties heavily into gluttony, and the lord of gluttony is a fallen angel If Konami knew about the link when designing them, that's a great connection

In duelist of the roses, they either changed some effect monster’s effects or gave vanilla monsters effects Hungry Hamburger was a ritual that required 3 specific monsters. Bio plant, battle steer and Griggle Hungry Burger’s effect was strong in toon terrain and it automatically destroys warrior monsters in battle before any damage calculation

Never have I been so amused, seeing my opponent with full board going for my tiny level 1 Ritual, only for them to be tributed completely. That being said, my toughest "customer" to serve in this event must be the Vanquish Soul. They all do non-targetting, which is hard for my food to be served to them

I just found out about this archetype a few days ago, and after making it in Master Duel, I am loving it. I do have my own theory regarding the overarching archetype lore. It seems like within the Nouvelles restaurant, the chefs have a lot of competition between themselves. In order to keep getting better and better (and outdoing each other) they started making pacts with demons in order to enhance the quality of their food (essentially, they are allowing themselves to be possessed to become better chefs). This might explain why the humans look more human, and only have suggestions of demonic “possessions” (wings and dark auras).

Well Atem in the last duel of DM used Rebellion, a card that forces an Opponent monster to attack it's owner, but outside of that spell, no monster or Spell/Trap card has ever replicated that

I absolutely ADORE this Archetype. I always loved the idea behind Ritual Monster's(giving up something for something more) but found it hard to get it all together for a decent Deck that wasn't slow as molasses and could collapse with one good use of a Meta card. Nouvellez fit perfectly into what i need. The fact that now i have 2 Food Themed Deck's(Suship XYZ and now Nouvellez Ritual) is a bonus in my books....

I think the relation between cuisine and the demon is kind of simple: the former calls the latter In Indonesia we call it as "sesajen", a dynamist offering in form of full cuisine to call help from demons and jinns. So basically, konami kinda say "yeah the french gourmets are demonic tributes"

They are Ritual cards. My guess is that the cooking is a Demon Summoning Ritual. A sacrifice is sealed in metal and burned in fire to appease a Demon. You call out to it, and it is summoned if it likes your sacrifice.

I finally started playing master duel, and made a deck with these units. They're insane. They just destroy combos and overwhelm almost everyone as soon as you get them to pop off. It helps that no one in MD reads their opponents cards apparently. The only thing that breaks these cards are monsters with high attack that are also immune from card effects or people playing decks that benefit from defense position cards. Or when you can't pop off because you got a brick hand with no recipes or ways to draw recipes

2 things (well 3 with the "exellent video"). Exept for Poltis which is more associated with vegetables and as such usually ends up in the meat section of the menu, every odd-level is rish based and searches the fish recipe and every even-leveled is meat based and searches the meat recipe. I don't think new chefs are planned for the near future as there is already ones to cook the fishes and the meat. Wine and cheese are not cooked on-site and deserts are cooked by another archtype. What is left is maybe salads and soups, which just don't feel right. We may get some "commis" (help/trainees) but it does not seem planned just yet.

Given that we see a rivalry between the Nouvelle chef and the fusion faiey Couverture it could be a symbolic representation between the temptation of man with the food made by demons is formed with a pact requiring the offering of a soul whilst Couveture is an angelic figure who comes from the union of two creatures, and while one is cooked with fire the other appears to be cream based representing hell and heaven respectively. Additionally pendulum monsters have the ability to ressurect themselves which is a common biblical theme, and food is often described with theologic terms like sinful or heavenly. Seems like they are setting the groundwork (hopefully) for a larger archetype of Pendulumn and Ritual Monsters which would be dope

We need more support cards for non-effect ritual monsters, like a ritual spell that lets you banish monsters from your hand/field/GY to ritual summon as many Non-Effect Rituals as possible, up to equal or less than the combined total ATK/DEF of those banished monsters. (So if you banish, say, 2 of Dystopia the Despondent with a combined 20,000 ATK/DEF, you can ritual summon any number of Non-Effect Rituals from your hand/Deck/GY who’s combined ATK/DEF equals or is under 20,000, like 3 of Black Luster Soldier and whatever else comes to mind to fill out the remaining amount).

I love this archetype and I really feel like Konami is trying to push Ritual Monsters again with the current Ritual Festival on in Master Duel, not complaining of course but seems like the Blue Eyes Chaos Max Dragon beat down is having the most success when played well, however I’ve gone in with a bit of a rogue dark magician deck and two Book of Eclipses and I’m having a weird amount of victories considering I’m only Diamond V and have lost more PvP games than I’ve won.

So many theories and you didn't connect how out of all the monsters only two of them are cooks and also only two out of summoned food demons are non humanoid. Ok, maybe that's not enough to ring a bell yet but MORE: there are two ritual spells, one for each cook, that while they may be used to summon any of the ritual monsters, have additional effects when summoning one of those two specific non-humanoid demons. The girl's spell for the feminine looking Buerillabaisse and the guy's for the more musculine Confiras. All right, now they are practically screaming this in our faces. THEORY: Those two are the cooks' true forms. The cooks look way more humanlike than the humanoid food demons, with only the wings on the backs betraying their true nature. They look not like humans, but rather like... demons that are trying to mask their real identity and blend in with the human world. And who those two chefs are summoning are not just some random demons, they are their brothers and sisters. That's why there are only two summoning spells for those two specific monsters - it's those two you have to start with and then they will summon their brethen through their own effects. Wich reinforces this theory, as it makes sense that the gameplay reflects the lore. And that sadly would mean we are not getting any more recipe ritual spell cards :( End of theory. Where does Patissciel fit into all this? No idea. But that theory rises more questions. Who summoned the first two? Maybe a cocky evil chef tried to abuse evil powers to create demonic magical dishes and have the most profitable restaurant in the world. Or maybe some random guy found a book in his grandmas attic and it had... some werid, but cool recipies. He decided to try them out and accidentaly summoned two demons. The demons then probably killed him, took human forms (or maybe they possesed somebody, or maybe maybe there were two people who summoned them, a brother and sister for example and they took over their bodies) and then made a restaurant as a cover up to pretend they are regular humans and can run their summoning rituals disguised as cooking recipies in peace and even sell the byproducts (dishes) as an easy way to get rid of them. Or maybe the guy that summoned them had an restaurant and they stole it from him (and if he was a chef it would make so much more sense for him to want to try out some new wanky recipies, or maybe he was down bad, his restaurant was doing terribly, so he tried some sort of "forbidden recipies"). Or maybe the two aren't even malicious (Poissonniere's fairy type may suggest that) and are instead helping the person who summoned them into this world to be "the very best restaurant in the world"tm, classic anime plot. And so they are summoning their friends to help (for example in like episode 3 they face a problem none of them knows how to solve, so they summon let's say Poeltis and she helps them and all is happy and all is good and she stays and we get a new character introduced into the roster, also classic anime stuff). And in that case we would also have Patissciel for the rival restaurant, it's all so clicking in together! There is so many options going through my head right now. This comment got so long because I just kept adding more and more "or"s and "maybe"s onto it. And we don't even know if they are good and just run a magical restaurant out of passion, or evil and the restaurant is just a cover up for their plans for... idk, world domination? And are they even summoning their brethren, or are they just calling upon their influence to create the dishes. Or do the people even know they are eating magical demon dishes and that's what everybody goes there for, or do they not know and just go like "Omg! The food in this restaurant is so great I just keep coming back! Gee, I wonder how they cook it so good?" *clueless* Anyway, thanks for your attention if you read all dat, and also raise your hand if you'd watch the hell out of this theoretical slice of life anime I talked about 🖐 PS.: Another two mini-theories that just crossed my mind: the hierarchy between the food demons and the monster burger is like between humans and dogs. The demons seem to be conscious and self-aware, and the burger is just wild and not very high in the tree of evolution. Also, I really hope we get a monster card for the other chef from the ritual spell, perhaps also a pedulum one. He would probably be called Boucher de Nouvelles, since "boucher" means "butcher chef" in french, and it's a person who prepares meat in the kitchen, wich is a parallel to poissonniere, who prepares fish and seafood specifically. And his ritual spell is named "meat recipe" while the girl's is "fish recipe". So "Boucher de Nouvelles" and "Poissonniere de Nouvelles". The end, this time for real, I promise.
