补充一下,Eureka是希腊语里面" I have found it"的意思。学术圈的老美都喜欢说,因为当年阿基米德洗澡发现浮体定律的时候大喊了一声“Eureka”, 常用来指做研究的时候发现了什么新事物。

having worked abroad for 2 years and still sometimes don't know how to express myself in a simple way. Really appreciate your videos Maggie, It helps me a lot.
“Interesting “ is used when I actually disagree or dislike but don’t want to point out too obviously to prevent embarrassing. It’s a polite form of “no”.

Interesting video. Your energy and enthusiasm is fun to watch. Re: 原來如此翻譯成英語, I think the tone is really important. Most of the English phrases you suggested carry the same meaning, but not the tone that is usually used when we say it in Chinese. In Chinese, the phrase imparts a sense of gravity, resolution and "acceptance." It doesn't have the casual tone of English phrases like "Got it!", "Eureka!" or "No wonder!". Notice how all three of these are written out with exclamation marks. I think the best one is, "I see," without the "Oh,...". The simplicity of "I see" gives it weight, as one does not have to say anything else after that. It sounds resolute.

I'm a native American English speaker, and I have no idea what this language is that you're teaching here! It's like the very specific dialect / sociolect of 1. young women 2. of a particular generation 3. of a certain class 4. who live in a small area of Los Angeles County! ... with a bit of Chinese accent mixed in. :) As for the L.A. accent, I mean... it's not Riverside, it's not Long Beach... I don't even think it's San Gabriel Valley. It's like West LA, Santa Monica, and north of there. Don't misunderstand; I think you're awesome. I have no criticism of your language ability :) It just have a bizarre feeling because it doesn't seem only like you're teaching language (and yes, I understand it is supposed to be vernacular / slang / colloquialisms) but also that you're teaching people to be a specific gender, class, age group person from a specific region! And I am not from that area or group and, to be honest, I don't really like the people who talk this way -- so it makes me cringe to imagine Chinese speakers are being taught to become these "characters", these "young dumb West LA girls" who don't get a lot of respect EXCEPT as far as they recognize one another belonging to that same social group.
The expression "Ah so!" is used very often to deal with that situation.

Hi Maggie 小姐:請問如何用英文表達和形容某人斤斤計較,沒量氣? 另外如何去用英文形容某人的答案是敷衍的?如何在普通談話上用甚麼字去形容敷衍這兩個字?謝謝!
@littlerayjiang85083 жыл бұрын
This is one of the words that I just can not find a corresponding word in English. I mean if u want to translate, a simple way to put it is “oh I see”, but that’s not a word. Languages are vastly different, and there’re things you need to differentiate and use different phrases in all kinds of scenarios in one language, but in other languages, one word might just do the trick. 在讲中文的时候,有的时候也会突然蹦出来一个英文的词,觉得那个词最准确😂
