This was a really thoughtful conversation full of good ideas. For me the peak execution of event-specific promos was the Barcelona Sigil of Solace. It has a date, an event location, location-specific art, full art, on a playable card. To me collectors will never get tired of those, because memories are attached to them. I like the idea of in-season stamped or dated promo cards for Top 8s or something on a card from the set of that season. A Top 8 Plow Under is a great idea.

Playing for an enlightened strike instead of 2 Benjamin’s is a great point.

I agree the system should be tighter with a top heavy award system. Every other professional level game/sport is an absolute grind. FaB should be the same, reward the grinders

I do honestly agree that winning a $200 card is more valuable to me than winning $200. And this may just be me. And in my financial situation $200 is not a lot of money. I admit to most people it is a substantially more appreciable amount. But I want the stories and the memories and the feeling of success and I can get that when I see the card that I want because money is money and it's just a medium of exchange

Yuanji hit it perfectly, ill give a good example. First event I won was a season 1 RTN, insta sold the EA Tunic and mat for $2500 fast forward a few seasons and I win a envelope with a Gold CF.......Silken form, and it barely fetched $100 after a long time searching for a buyer. I love LSS and I trust them, and their vision but I think they are messing up BAD here, there has got to be a better way and come on they know the 2ndary market. It costs them the same to make a EA Tunic as a GF Silken Form, give us something that will be desirable and valuable.

Maybe it's time for new foiling?

I live 40 min from scgcon DC, but didn't go. Getting there at 9am and paying $60 isn't worth it for me when I have a super low chance of getting any prizes worth more than $60.

Gold foils are a huge insult to CF collectors

Just a correction : Worlds 2024 Osaka is still rewarding PTI's for top32. The change yuanji mentions is the prizing for Protour London which gives an Invite to PT APAC to the top32 Players.

I think to Yuanji's point, the rarity of the card as released in the set being supported, should have some determination of what level/type of promo it should get printed at. They've had CF promo weapons as Armory Prizes and RF promo cards going all the way back to 2019 with Romping Club and Wrecker Romp (and I think they should continue that structure for Armory). I DO think they should make T8 of RtN/PQ/BH better. I was definitely a fan of CF heroes as T8 prizes for those, and am NOT a fan of RF Heroes as T8 prizes for those (I am both player and collector, similar to Saint not wanting there to be 3 versions of a Legendary, because pulling the mid version is weird feeling, getting a RF adult hero for T8ing a RtN/PQ is weird feeling, like why do I want the thing that LSS has already told me is worse than the Marvel version?) and am inclined to agree with Yuanji that having a (preferably RF, leave CF for Judge packs? And maybe Skirmish winners) Majestic card as a promo (that doesn't have an EA version in a pack) for the T8 prizes would feel better. I do have to slightly disagree with Saint on the overall number of Promos, not every promo has to be a banger in terms of value/collectability (some of them, especially of common cards, should just be for players), but I do think LSS should, in essence, have the promos fairly tightly focused on the current set (with perhaps some few exceptions). As an example, the alt art Ravenous Rabble that was a participation promo at a Calling in support of Heavy Hitters, really should have been a promo a couple seasons before at a Calling with Outsiders... I'd love for there to be a bit more of a systematic/predictable process in place for filtering out promos that won't be viewed as "good". Getting a CF Promo Weapon (that is a token in the current set, maybe is between $10 and $50 on release) and some RF Promos of Commons in the current set as participation prizes for Armories works well, and in my opinion NEEDS to stay as the the LGS promos. Similarly, having a CF Promo Majestic of a previous set as the prize at a Skirmish (CF CMH, CF Teklo Core, etc, and is maybe between $20 and $100 on release) and some RF Promos of commons in the current set as participation prizes should stay as well as more LGS promos. At RtNs/PQs I'm in favor of having a RF Promo Majestic from the current set (that isn't available in EA) as a T8 prize. 24 RFs Promos that are Rares in current set as "participation prizes". Driving back from one such event during the Outsiders meta, my friend and I lamented that Spinning Wheel Kick (in all 3 colors) sorta missed the mark, and that Humble (red only) would have been a better pick as the Promo rare card to have as the participation promo. I think these 100% should get rebranded/restructured into the LGS promos (that's where you play most of the RtNs/PQs)... BH/Callings should also have RF Promo T8 M prizes (that are a different M card from the RtN/PQs, here is where I think it might be appropriate to not always be tied to the current set, cards like Plow Under, Send Packing, Channel Lake Frigid). They should still hand participation prizes, but should scale back to commons (or possibly tokens, like Agility/Might/Vigor) so as to be different from the RtN/PQ promos. These should stay FAB promos. Along these lines, I think that the 4 OP Tiers of tournaments needs to be restructured. Tier 1 can stay as is. Tier 2 should be just RtNs and PQs. Those are things that (for most of the player base) happens at your LGS (and is why I'm saying those promos should be LGS promos, as it is an LGS handing them out). Tier 3 should have BHs and Callings. Tier 4 should have Nats/PTs, and Tier 5 should be Worlds by itself. Again, I'm totally fine with there being a glut of RF promos of common cards like Hiss and Slither, so long as they're cards that support/are from whatever the current set is (and as a collector preferably aren't impacting past promos too much). The reason I think limiting the vast majority of RF Promos to be tied to current set is key is because then, they too will have a bit more of definitively known limited run of them. The downside here is it means that if LSS predicts the wrong cards as great/desireable cards you might have a season or two worth of meh promos. But I think it should be pretty easy for them to pick some winners.
