I came to the US in 1983 -- forty years ago - as a 22-year-old grad student. I agree with pretty much everything you said. The isolation and homesickness I felt initially were brutal. Back then there was no WhatsApp or other media. People in India didn't even know much about the US. My family back in India didn't have a phone until 1988, five years after I left India. I wrote and mailed a letter to my mom and dad every Monday. It took about 10 days (when everything went well) for the letter to reach India; and if they replied right away (which wasn't even possible), I would hear back from them in another 10 days. I developed toughness of the mind and overcame an acute sense of regret.

@@NCore_._ I couldn't. I passionately wanted to do my PhD in physics. Don't ask me why. Today, I don't encourage anyone, including my own children, to do PhD. There was another reason: In 1982 I had gotten a well-paying job (by Indian standards at least) at the RBI at the ripe old age of 21! I resigned from that job and left for the US. Returning empty handed was not an option for me. To complicate matters, my PhD took an unusually long time (10 years) because I had a huge fight with my first thesis advisor and I had to start over in January, 1989. Well, such is life. What'm I gonna do? Once I got settled in, things began to change...and I really liked the US. Besides, my three daughters grew up here, and it would make no sense for me to move back to India.

I don't agree with the statement that in india you always move with friends. I have been alone for the last decade without any friends far away from my family in a different state. This was during my late teens & entire 20s when most people have the time of their lives. I was surrounded by extremely selfish people who would play mind games and when my guard was down backstab me,gang up on me. There was a time i was severely depressed and wanted to kill my self. I worked on myself alone without anybody's help & being alone has definitely made me a lot stronger. So it really doesn't matter which country you are in, when life wants to f*ck you over it will whether it is india, usa or any other country. You have to struggle in life no matter which country you are in.

Yudi - You have nicely put forth all the points. Having said that in life you work hard, face difficulties and resolve them in the best possible way you can. The ups and downs in life is what makes life. I came to USA almost 45 years ago and had to go thru difficulties but generally found a way out to experience life! This would be true in India, USA or anywhere else.

First things first…always do your bachelors in the US if you are doing engineering. You don’t need masters right away. If you need it, start working and do your master’s part time. Work experience and progressive practical knowledge gain are more important if your intent is to make money. Also, life long networks are formed in Bachelors and not much in the Masters programs, especially the professional masters programs. If you are into research or teaching then doing masters and PhD in the US makes sense. Note some sensitive areas of research are off limits for foreigners. So if you want to pursue such research, you need to establish longevity in the US so the security agencies can verify you. This would again mean you try and do your high school and bachelors in the US. And then join a national laboratory that pays for your masters degree. If you do expensive masters here, you may not get your money’s worth.

The problem for students in usa is more to do with tackling studies and keeping it on track most of the time because a small mistake in an assignment can literally bring down grades so students usually are either occupied in their own world or worried about their future so they literally have no time or patience or want of helping their peers or any newcomers.

Nah it depends on your degree, I studied in the USA and now I am in med school in Europe. Med students are super helpful to each other despite of having a busy schedule :/ It depends on which profession you want to go into. Most med students are selfless and want to help as the profession requires you to help and be selfless... I studied early childhood development in the USA and my classmates where not the brightest to be honest and not really helpful.

I've been through the process he's describing. It's not difficult per se if you look at it the right way. You came here looking for a better quality of life, which is not guaranteed just because you're in the US. It is just easier to reach that goal in the US because with the same amount of effort, you won't be able to do it in India. It can be tough here but it's definitely not as bad as you potray it to be. @@guptasagar694 I came to the US directly after bachelor's as a fresher. I graduated during the peak of COVID. It took me 3 months to find a job after graduation. But I did get a lot of interviews. If I did well, I would've gotten the job earlier. So, yeah I still think it's easier to get a job in the US than in India. H1B is subjective. For the first job I wasn't thinking of h1. I just wanted to get a job. You have to find companies that sponsor H1 and apply to those . I have h1b since last year. So, everything went well for me even with a bad start.

Roommates can make or break your masters journey. But not only in masters, roomamates are a problem everywhere. They don't allow you to do anything productive. You sleep at 10 and wake up at 4 am, well the roommate will see a movie or talk with girlfriend till 3 in the night with lights on. Gone is your sleep. You want to come from work and take rest and then study. Well the roommate has invited his friends to chill and drink daru till midnight. Gone is your study. Roommates are a menace.

Can they live without any contribution from you for minimum 5 years? Remember you have to pay the loan as well So if everything above is no issue then people can go, else stay

yeah they increase there according SOFR some time it's go high as 16% but without collateral if don't have option then it's the only way 🥲 but mpower is better than that

yeah but not many people have collateral or property so its good for them and here's the hack I will tell you which I need to make a dedicated video - just refinance the loan and your loan can be now 5-7%. So in short for someone who doesn;t have assests to get a loan this is probably really good for them.

The problem in American Universities mostly American Professors don't know how to teach but they mostly research oriented. For example I was a tutor in Graduate studies and Undergrad students were not doing well in Ststics, Strength of materials etc. After Tutoring on behalf of the Dept most became A students. A professor teaches me Boundary layer Theory. He Spends some time on math in Boundary layer, then hands out an computer assignment. You don't learn anything via programming , it is a waste of time. What a way to teach a course. I came to learn Boundary layer theory, just do some math for flow around cylinder and invoke a computer program is not a way to teach. Yes I know he is taking effort not to flood me with too much information. But if he really teaches well you could solve most assignments on your own with no effort. I think they failing to teach you well. It is as if they are on some pedestal and you are a student.
