More information about the video content bellow:
1. Yukon is the smallest and westernmost of Canada's three federal territories (the other two are the Northwest Territories and Nunavut). The territory has the smallest population of any province or territory in Canada, with 35,874 people. Though officially bilingual (English and French), the Yukon Government also recognizes First Nations languages.
2. The territory was split from the Northwest Territories in 1898 and was named the Yukon Territory. By the 1870s and 1880s gold miners began to arrive. This drove a population increase that justified the establishment of a police force, just in time for the start of the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897. The increased population coming with the gold rush led to the separation of the Yukon district from the Northwest Territories and the formation of the separate Yukon Territory in 1898.
3. To date, the Yukon Territory is the only province of Canada to have its capitol city changed. Dawson City was the capitol until 1953 until it was moved to the larger more prosperous city of Whitehorse. Whitehorse receives snow year round, in the summer months it may be very little, just flurries, but in the end every month of the year has registered for snowfall. Whitehorse is the territorial capital and Yukon's only city.
4. The Yukon Territory today has roughly the exact same population as it did in the year 1900. (33,897 in 2015 - 31,055 in 1900). This makes the Yukon Canada’s slowest growing province by a huge margin. Whitehorse has been growing at a decent pace but the issue is the rural surrounding areas have been dwindling in numbers.
5. Mt Logan located in the south western part of the territory is Canada’s largest mountain with its peak just under 20,000 feet!
6. Dawson City was nothing more than a tent city prior to 1896. Then gold was found nearby and overnight the city exploded from 200 to 40,000 people. This is one of North Americas biggest gains in population in the shortest time. Dawson was paved with gold for 3 years, the city became super rich with imports from France and Italy in clothing stores and any food you could name shipped all the way to the northern city. The gold however dried up in 1899 and suddenly people were leaving in droves, by 1910 Dawson was down to 25,000, 1930 was under 10,000 and today the city sits under 4,000 residents.
7. The Yukon Quest is a 1,000 mile sled dog race that begins in Whitehorse and ends in Fairbanks, Alaska. The event takes place every winter in February and typically runs from 10-16 days, until the last team crosses the line.

I graduated from College with a diploma in information systems and lived in a city in NewBrunswick. I was brought up in the woods and on a river so I always needed my weekly fix of it so at the same time as my information system career I ran my own snow blowing company in winter and did some logging in the summer. It was all great but it never satisfied my sense of adventure but I continue to support my family. I am now semi retired, my kids are now adult and on their own so I have a sense of freedom that I don't want to waste. I was looking at the Yukon and found this. I think my next Journey just might be the Yukon.

Do it..... I was supposed to move to Alaska and I was taking a trip across starting from Quebec... I was going to haul ass across till I get to Saskatchewan, go visit Rouleau and get my Corner Gas t-shirts... You got to know the TV show Corner Gas if you go up there... And then I was going to spend a few days in BC and Yukon I'm waiting! Sounds like you have a soul that wanted to get out of civilization, but a heart and a brain that stood by your family - kudos to you... That's awesome. I hope you live your dream and make it to the Yukon... I'll be joining a gold mine out in Alaska as soon as I can get there! Oh - one more thing... If you're going to the Yukon, part of planning that trip is making sure you're armed, practiced and you know what you're doing with a firearm. I'm betting you already know this so forgive me if I sound condescending. I really don't mean it go on the Canadian website - even though Yukon is a territory the laws still apply there in bringing a firearm over the Border - get the paperwork done ahead of time, you can download it from their website, make three copies... Don't sign it until you're at the border And I would advise registering your firearm with u.s. Border Services - so when you get to the other end or you come back out across the border, they know what you've got. You're legitimate so if you're not familiar with Firearms, I'm not trying to be condescending, you've been out in the woods, you've been a logger... You're probably up on it. and the Canadian website is actually very informative . But just in case you're not familiar with firearms, that's one of the first things that needs to be done by anyone planning to spend time in the Yukon. Clean your shotgun or rifle, practice and be ready. on the Canadian form requesting permission to bring a firearm into Canada - they list several purposes for bringing it - varying from in transit going to Alaska, hunting, competition, personal protection, or protection from wildlife I checked off Wildlife... Because that's the truth. I travel with an unfixed male Husky Malamute... He attracts trouble and Wildlife far more than any of my other Huskies or female dogs - I have to be armed. so far just using the panic button on my key fob for my vehicle, honking the horn, has chased everything away... coyotes, bears, Fisher Cats... But I have not dealt with bears the size they have up there. not packing tuna sandwiches, not cooking bacon while I camp. That much I already know been warned, in the Yukon, you don't call 911, as you know - you carry 911 services with you And I also installed a CB on my vehicle... Get the taller whip antenna if you do that - the short ones go nowhere. we're better off relying on truckers then digital service anyway... I am hoping I have poked you to the point where you're going to start doing something about it... and if you happen to get up there next month, you see a Husky Malamute that looks like he has mascara markings under his eyes? Say hi... That would be the Fool in the Rain!

I was born here. Realities are: very few people, very good paying jobs even if you have a small amount of post-secondary education, $22/day given to every citizen at tax time for just living there, amazing air quality, spectacular parks, no crowds. If you’re below the age of 30, the social scene is very stagnant, but if you’re an outdoorsy person, finding friends will be a cake walk.

Thank you for the update. There's a new pilot program launched in Yukon and based on what was published in the Canadian website people thought migrating there will be easy for foreign workers. Turns out that's not the reality. Very few jobs and so many people chasing them especially from outside of Canada, like looking for a needle in a hay stack. The pilot is requures 2- 3 jobs. Tough really
