seeing him playing various wrong notes and following like nothing happened is still so impressive for me. the self control this man has is insane i wish i was like him.

Ritmo perfecto, tremdnda musicalidad y carácter, estilo impecablemente logrado, articulación clarísima. Me transmite un mensaje único. Para mí, la mejor versión que escuché.
Great performance I love Beethoven and Yundi Li illustrates well the caracter within this Sonata!😁

People who added comments should have asked questions to the owner of this video instead.questions like what was the background? Who were the intended audiences? Based on the condition it wasn’t a professional setting. Perhaps a charity event, guest appearance at a local competition? He is a world renowned pianist surely he knew what he was doing there.

I can't see how he finished playing without losing his temper or concentration, given that throughout I kept hearing some people coughing with unfailing regularity. I also got a jolt hearing a very LOUD thud of a falling object. The incessant coughing was unforgivable , in all probability prompted by sheer boredom. If classical music bores you, don't go to a concert and cough your way through it, spoiling it for the rest of us.

Also can people stop clapping between movements in a classical music concert. Just don't do it people.

He could have put that anger into his playing since it is a rather angry piece

because he is disengaged from pretty much everything in the world except the piano and the piece. it's visible on his face, and probably the only way to perform with such a passion.

Definitely not one of Yundi's top performances. Apart from the wrong notes, the piece at times feels like it does not even hold together, making you wonder if he simply forgot how to play? Also missing are the textured tone and beautiful color Yundi is loved for. The third movement is simply a disaster. The recording and the tuning are bad too. Still love him though, hoping to see him returning to his old self!

Agreed ... His Adagio Cantabile is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful renditions I've ever heard, but this particular performance almost had the sound of having practiced something 10000x and just playing on autopilot without pouring the emotion into it. Also that piano is unforgivably out of tune ... Seriously, it's an insult to that Steinway.

I think he doesn't like Beethoven that much compared to Chopin, and didn't work enough on this Sonata. + was maybe young ?

I agree, I’ve listened to the album recording dozens of times and this in comparison is not good (to be fair though that piano is also very out of tune) but the amount of wrong notes is absurd for the yundi we know and love

Una pena que se haya desafinado groseramente el piano. Este pianista posee una concentración digna de un profesional.

Yundi's Beethoven does not sound German at all. It lacks the structure and precision that Germans are all about. It also lacks masculinity and maestoso often heard in Beethoven and Wagner. And too much rubato.

Beethoven may not be like the steotype of German. From the nature of Music, Beethoven could be very romantic, otherwise he couldn't create the music like this. Because we never hear how Beethoven and Chopin played, how can we say its more Chopin than Beethoven??????

The people who liked this video should really get their hearing checked. No only does the piano sound broken, the playing was full of VERY obvious mistakes. I've already seen plenty of videos of Yundi making a fool of himself performing on stage, but this one is by far the most shocking, because this looks like a more serious setting. Also looks like this took place before he became a full-time "celebrity" personality in China.

This is shockingly poor. I teach and this is unbelievably bad for a professional. I'd be ashamed if any of my students played this as he does here. The last movement is utter destruction of the piece there's hardly a right note, clumps of chords just smashed up, missing bars. God knows what was going on in his head and fingers! Wow I've heard him before and he's been fantastic but this !?....well maybe it's a lesson that no matter how good you might be you can have a seriously OFF day ....!
