At the end of the fight, Rill was crying cuz he literally forgot about the crystal and was continuously leveling up his Mana to overpower Yuno; and destroyed his crystal from emitting too much mana. Yuno went crazy this episode but if the crystals werent there, Rill would've won.

In the manga they didn't show Yuno struggling against Rill with both of them at full power, the anime did a good job in that part. Because despite of Yuno went with all in this battle and having more magical power, he's still no match against Rill and his broken magic. After all, this was a battle between two prodigies, but Rill is the one who is captain; so in a real battle I'm not sure how much Yuno would handle a serious Rill.
