Man, I fucking hate when people keep assuming that the "tech demo" at space world was somehow the first Beta look at Windwaker. It was nothing more than a tech demo to show what they could do with the Gamecube. They didn't say that they were making that demo into the new Zelda. It was just a tech demo that looked like Zelda. Aunuma even went to the others after seeing it and said it was nothing like he imagined a new Zelda game. Good on ya Yuri for finally saying what I've been thinking. The tech demo was nothing more than a tech demo. One of your best beta videos.

There's actually a picture in the Wind Waker instruction manual where the sword icon is over the A button, while the rest of the HUD looks the same as in the final version, which suggests that maybe there was an option to switch A and B, or at least to choose which button to which your sword was assigned.

I always laugh when people go "REALISTIC STYLE" for Zelda, Zelda has NEVER had a realistic art style, the concept art for all the 2D games? cartoony, OoT and MM? Much more cartoony than people seem to remember them as. even Twilight Princess is more anime esque than anything, the only thing that links it's art style to "realistic looking games" is that it is very very brown, but grit freaks seem to LOVE brown, since apparently color is childish and makes them feel insecure about their maturity.

@@edge6441 Yes and no. Twilight princess' problem is that the shading and colors are too dark. Link's green tunic becomes brown/gray as well as the world around it. We wanted an upgraded version to Ocarina. Skyward Sword is closer to achieving that than Twilight in my opinion, in terms of brightness.

Every time I hear someone say a game is stupid because it's cartoonish I want to beat them with a big cartoon mallet. I refuse to believe that IGN is run by normal functioning humans. They say really stupid things, especially when they talk about the new Smash Bros on Wii U. They were analyzing Megaman in his trailer, and they had no idea what a dodge and roll is apparently because they saw Megaman do those, and they thought it was a brand new move. They also think Tom Nook will be a playable character. That's all I have to say about that.

They also give some poor and/or bad games high ratings, I mean GoldenEye Wii/GoldenEye: Reloaded a 9/10? It was Call of Duty with Bond characters and a remade plot of the story that made changes that totally made fun of the 1995 movie. Hell it was actually a shit load more linear than CoD, you couldn't kill important characters and the control/button interaction in the cutscenes felt like last minute things. Best Multiplayer on Wii? I got better multiplayer by playing Mario Kart Wii or Mario Party 8 without using the WiFi function than that game with the internet. I don't know when it happened, but IGN lost their reviewers who know things about gaming a long time ago, somewhere before or in 2009. *shakes head*

Plus the Sonic series, they bash the games by "not being original" and "not like the original or the Adventure series" and recently in Sonic Lost World,"rip-off of Mario Galaxy" when Mario Galaxy took the gimmick of Crazy Gadget and Mad Space (or just Mad Space alone). In the Colors review, they bashed it when it saved Sonic. And they scored Unleashed very poorly and the score of that game being lower than 06. Gah! I don't like those "professional" reviewers like IGN because they sound like they play shooters and strictly Nintendo games only! Just why?

From what I know though they removed the aging not due to that it was hard to implement but because that would imply Links quest was 3-6 years long and the story wouldn't match that length at all, the things they had set out for you to do originally in the game couldn't possibly be put in a way that it would feel that long at all, unless they made a timeskip, but what would've happened while the time-skip ? You can't make time-skips on active quests like these. What would've happened to everyone involved in Links quest at the time ? There was no way of explaining it in a proper or good way. I guess technically that makes it hard to implement haha, but that's why from what I've heard. Awesome Video though, Good Job.
@ThunderbirdIV2511 жыл бұрын
While I know a lot of people didn't like the game, Fable managed to have an active aging mechanic. Though really, only for your character. You and Whisper start at the same age, but by the end of the game, she's still young, and you're... at least 50 :P However, look at Assassin's Creed. It's been awhile since I've played 2, or Brotherhood, but 3 definitely had aging in it's story. Started off as a young Connor, aged a bit and learned to be an Assassin, and then you were an adult and a skilled Assassin.

My one knock...sailing around the map can get extremely tedious, especially when you have to buy all the sections of the map one at a time. hey Yuri there's something I was expecting you to have more info on, Zelda Wind waker was originally going to be for the series what Skyward Sword was, the origins of the series Nintendo itself said so in the E3 where they unvelied the game, if I'm not mistaken it was Shigeru himself who said that when interviewed by a gaming magazine staff however, due to the sudden backlash generated by the game's art style, they redid a good part of the script to make it "safer" for release and dumbed down a good chunk of the plot to make it more like a filler and not like where the series would have been born. things said to have been in the original plot are: the origin of ganondorf's transformation ( this is why he doesn't transform in the game, that part had to be out in the rewrite ) and the beginning of his rivalry with link ( which is why he's mostly so cool and collected during the game ), the creation of hyrule, a better explanation or something about why zelda broke the triforce in the first zelda game, the scene from the tech demo with the older link also, the link from the E3 wind waker video, is the middle link in that aging Links artwork, and the one we got in the final game is the youngest one, it's speculated that in the original game Link would have either spent years looking for his sister the reason why they gave up on the change of the sword icon when you picked up enemy weapons is because it confused test players into thinking they lost the sword. many plot points of the original wind waker were used later on skyward sword, and the volcano island was partly used in twilight princess ( especifically the goron volcano ) that change in plot made Nintendo withdraw many of the early promotional arts for wind waker, including one where there was a huge shadow of ganondorf's face over sky and below there was a small Link on the king of red lions below in the sea ( seen from the side ) the sneaking elements was going to play a bigger role yes, the final game doesn't make it seem like it would fit in well because they cut out all of it during the big reset I remember all of this because it's what got me hyped the most for Wind Waker, and even if the final product was still amazing, it got me reaaaally disappointed not to see any of this the first time I played through the game.. sorry for the wall of text, and happy thanksgiving

Pretty sure that the volcano island is just a remant of what the bigger volcano island was. It would've been the home of the Gorons and it's dungeon the Goron mines from Twilight Princess. I always thought that the way Link falls down in a magnetic ray to cling on a wall was a bit too cartoony for TP. That's because it was probably meant for WW.
@GhastlyMeerkat9 жыл бұрын
What I think Nintendo should have done, is kept the aging system and the tech demo. At the beginning of the game, the art style could be cutesy, but as the game progressed, and the hero grew older, so would how he sees the world. (Art style wise) and maybe that's what they would have done, but had some form of complication. But whatever, I just thought that it might be cool.

TorchTaylor21 According to the Official Zelda Timeline, Link dies. However, he only appears dead in Twilight Princess(teaches the current Link attacks he couldn't pass on in the past), so where exactly did he die? He said in a past life. He doesn't die in OoT, so it must be Majora's Mask.

2 things: First, I could be mistaken, but I've heard that in Japan, the function of the A and B buttons are swapped, so the B button being the action button and the A button being the sword button in these trailers would make sense. Secondly, that Spaceworld 2000 demo didn't go anywhere. It got shelved when Nintendo decided to use cel shaded graphics, but they later went back to it and it became Twilight Princess.

7:57 I played a later build of the Wind Waker demo at a Club Nintendo event. The B button was used for the Sword, A was Action, X and Y were items and the Z button was for switching to first-person for looking around, as moving the C stick moved the camera. In the final version, first person was switched to C-Stick Up and moving the C-Stick in any other direction activated "FREE CAMERA" mode where the C-Stick acted like it did in the demo. Also, I can't remember exactly, but there was either no R button icon or was, but you used your sheild by holding down the L button to enter L-Targeting mode and could then press R to use your sheild. Pressing R when outside of targeting mode would cause Link to crouch and then crawl prone when moving the Control Stick. Also the file select sound was used when opening the map, and item inventory. Also the item inventory screen looked different, it had a white background and only have five item slots. Also pressing L and R switched to other subscreens. If I remember correctly, Pressing R went to the sea chart and L went to quest items. The demo had three modes: Adventure - Starts you out on Outset Island, demo ends when Aril is snatched. Sailing - You play the sailing Minigame where you hop over barrels to get rupees Stelth - The Forsaking Fortress section of the game where you get your sword back.

I just caught this, when you say, " It's like switching X and O on Playstation", that probably means it was an eastern title, as many things in eastern languages can be written right to left, meaning B would be the logical A, and O the logical X. 11:00 Yuriofwind In phantom hourglass there is the Isle of Ember that has a town at the bottom, a volcano at the top, and is essential to the plot of the game. It also has a dead man where the cave is shown on that map.

You never mentioned the unused Tincle room. You know, the one with the green troll drawn all over the walls?

Actually, I have found that hidden "sneak ability" when I was going through the Forsaken Fortress my... seventh playthrough? Anyway, while I was in the Forsaken Fortress and I moved slowly near a Bokoblin (shut up I like to walk in my games, it's relaxing) and when I was walking near the Bokoblin and Link started doing that "sneaking" animation. MYSTERY SOLVED!

The reason I love Nintendo is because they aren't afraid to try new things.

I realized that maybe the fire mountain island (11:55) is what was going to be the stove top island (10:58), possibly because if Stove Top island was going to have a dungeon (one of the cut dungeons possibly), then why could it not be the Fire Mountain Island where you get the Iron Boots? It would be the item of the dungeon! (also they look similar with how the volcanoes are shaped) (also great Video!)

Funny he mentions the durability of the Gamecube...The core battery burned out on mine a year and a half in..Nintendo replaced it for free though, and its been working great ever since...My white Xbox 360 though...Red Ring of Death, had to pay to repair, went out and bought a 360 elite instead....only two consoles that ever died on me.

that's odd, my GC is still running fine to this day.
@DeadProphetsFate11 жыл бұрын
myguitardidyermom212 Yeah, I probably just had a faulty one. But Nintendo's customer service was great, they fixed it and replaced my old controllers with two new ones. Its working fine to this day now.

So do people think that the Wii U tech demo is the next Zelda game.
@ThunderbirdIV2511 жыл бұрын
While I would like to see the graphics look like that, I'm not sure it will be. It was a tech demo, not a trailer. Still, maybe it will look something like Link's model in the new SSB game. We DID see him standing on a cliff looking at Hyrule Castle in the trailer, after all.

Kind of disappointed that he didn't mention the concept art from the Hyrule Historia about the 2 overworlds. The upper world that was a sea with a guy fishing and you'd grab onto his hook from the lower world. Not much info but it was cool artwork. But like always, excellent video Yuri. :D

The Ice caver in Oot is speculated by many to have been intended to be a full dungeon as it have the appearance of being unfinished and through hacking an Ice Medallion was found. Also I think the same is likely true of the Well which has many areas you don't even need to go to to obtain what you need.
