I love this song. It transports me back to my grandmother’s home in Tennessee. I can see me and her sitting on the porch early in the morning and see the dew covered grass shine in the morning sunlight and smell the sweetness of the fruit trees that surrounded the right side of the house. I’d watch the school bus pick up the older kids on the road and my uncles to take them to the black school several miles away, even though there was a white school just down the way. 😢 But we were happy. Happy every morning, enjoying each new day.

The man who made Morning has Broken a pop song joined Islam which bans music from religion. Its all horses for courses as the saying goes. Hymns are getting worse not better but thats another issue.

It's a sad fact that schools no longer have hymns sung every morning nor the Lord's prayer. When I queried this at my child's school I was told it was so no one could be offended. As far as I'm aware no one is made to attend assemblies. This is the only country I know of that changed its culture in order not to offend.

The tune is a traditional Scottish tune first published in 1888. The words were from 1931. Cat Steven’s played guitar and sang the hymn in 1971. Rick Wakeman played the piano. His arrangement added a lot of beauty to the song.
