I remember watching the anime when I was in middle school and me and my friends always felt like Kuwabara and his friends. Unfortunately getting in trouble fighting with other friend groups that almost seemed to see us their rivals or something. Sigh middle school was the fondest time I had in my 30 plus years.

21 episodes and there was already the Yusuke's Ordeal arc, Artifacts of Darkness arc, Genkai's Tournament arc, and The Beasts of Maze Castle arc. The pacing of Yu Yu Hakuso is impeccable. No long drawn out bs here.

@DiceFTW273 yeah. Some things were changed from the manga but at least it didn't have endless filler. It's amazing Yu Yu came unscathed in that department when pretty much every other shonen of the time had entire filler arcs.

@ 100% a set up arc and that’s why it’s great. Spoilers * The whole arc is showing strong kuwabara and yusuke have become. They run through the mansion like kid goku vs the red ribbon army. Even the teamwork too good too be true finish. Then it’s all shattered and you learn that togoru was using like 20% lol The way they set that power gap is awesome. I think that’s what gives the tournament so much tension and excitement going in.

Really great end to the arc Yusuke giving his life to beat the final saint beast and Kuwabara giving some of his life for him in return cementing that friendship even more.

In the manga, at the part where Kawabara tricks Yusuke about Keiko, there’s a funny panel. It’s been a few years since I read it, but it was something along the lines of “We pause for a moment while Yusuke hands Kawabara his own head.” The next panel shows a badly beaten up Kuwabara.
