Yuta Fujii’s Pro Skateboard Shape Review | my experience

Whaaaaat...so many sick new tricks. The leg wrap around from pogo stand at 6:36 was such a pleasant surprise because it's usually done as a tail block trick on vert and banks or anything inclined. So rad to see ya get creative while mashing tricks with freestyle. You're style with tricks and overall is looking so much smoother.

Ah, thanks Jordan! it's been a great fall for new tricks! A lot compounded it seems. But, I can't take credit for that trick. Wasn't my creativity. It's often called a saran wrap. I'm not sure which style did it first of course, but it was a staple truck trick even back in the 80s. Some skaters do it with one hand. Not me yet haha

I too have a love-hate relationship with symmetry. I also prefer a mellow concave, one of the reasons I skate Death Skateboards. Great video!

I bought one this week and took it out today for the first time and it is AWESOME!!! The shape means I can progressively move from flat to on-nose, or anywhere in between, without having this spot where it transitions. I can very easily move from 'riding' position to 'symmetrical' with feet on nose and tail, or anywhere in between. The narrower nose gives me better leverage from my toes and heel. I do a lot of tic-tac based tricks and the rear truck is looser than the front, so it matters to me which way the board is 'facing'. I've been nailing things today that I've been working hard on - so this shape is absolutely for me. And you? With Mike? My 2 fave YT stars? Together?? AWESOME too!! :D

ahh, that's awesome to hear! I keep going back and forth between my love for the bixby and my new appreciation for Yuta's shape. And for me, it's the symmetry and stability 🙈 But for the bixby, it's the nose's shape that l love. Love it, Sarah! Great review. I’m seriously thinking about getting this board. I was so excited to see Waltz come out with a design I liked on a double kick. I come from a 7.75” Almost street deck, but it’s time for an upgrade. Your skating has improved a ton over the last few months by the way! It’s really encouraging to me, I’m so bad 😂

I have a 7.6” Siren and just ordered a Yuta Curious to see how it feels. The mellower kick may be fun to try with small risers to help get more angle before it snaps on Ollie tricks. It will also maybe make rail tricks more stable. Im going to try it both ways. Great rev. Glad Waltz made this deck and hired you !

Yeah, I considered putting risers on it too! Can't remember the passing thought that made me choose not to 😂 Might have to put the risers on for rail tricks. Let me know if they help! 💪

@@SarahParkMatott keeping the wheel farther from the deck should help make it a bit more stable and put the board closer to the pop zone of the siren. We will see soon ! Im excited to compare the 2. Both are going to have their pros. Would be cool to see a Yuta in a smaller size I will say , perhaps at some point?

@@SarahParkMatott oh one more thing ! Sorry The extra board weight is nice as counter weight for some tricks like One footed nose wheelies , one footed manuals etc.. helpful for other stuff also.

Excellent review. I would probably think it was thin since I skated a 10-inch board when I was young and came back to an 8.25. This might be a good size for me to get into some freestyle on my back porch during winter months when street skating isn't an option. Thanks!

Ah, thanks! And right? That's a great point! I also think this is a great board to switch down to from larger popsicles if you're interested in trying out some freestyle. Probably more comfortable to start at 7.75 from an 8.25 rather than jumping to a 7.4 or 7.3! 😃 Totally agree 💪

Great review and the deck looks sooooo cool!! May I ask you one question - how tall are you? I am 1,57m/5'2" and the board seems like a really good size for you. As you said quite big for a freestyle but the shuv its and big spin looked so effortless compared to a big street deck!

Hi Denise! I am just under 5'2", about 1.56m--so we are pretty much the same height 😃 The deck is big for a freestyle deck, small for a street deck. It definitely sits in the middle. But, you're right. Yuta is a master of shove its, so it's no surprise he designed a deck that would suit that style--which is right up my alley. 😃

Be sure to give the skid plates a chance to wear in too, on a new freestyle board, because that will affect how the nose/tail feel on any trick that makes contact with the ground (it will affect the pop angle and fluidity of motion).

Mike Ostermen (free style skater) Places grip tape underneath the deck. A piece underneath each side of the nose below. Apparently helps massively

Cool that you work for Waltz now. Do you ride tight trucks? Are they Ace? I'm surprised freestylers would use Ace, as at least with the larger versions of the trucks they are known for their turn and as far as I know, freestylers usually crank their trucks down to where they don't turn.

Yep! I ride semi tight trucks compared to an average freestyler I think. They are ace on my larger freestyle boards. The geometry of ace trucks make them great for turning. But, with a set of hard bushings, they work great for freestyle too. And their upright, taller shape makes them good for being in rail in my opinion 😄 But the stock bushings aren't great for freestylers who crank them down and ride really tight trucks of course

I have a question, im have been passionate about skateboard for a long time but only had the guts to startd this last month and i want to buy a board but dont know what to buy cause i like freestyle but i also love transition and a bit of street too, and im a big fan of like big wheels (since my european city has the worst roads)my fav skaters are ace pelka and john gadner cause they do it all (not really freestyle but yeh) i love their videos on terrible terrain and also love curb skating, so yeh im really lost on what to buy and i was kinda going for an oldschool board but not sure if its the correct move

oh, that's a tough question, and it's the reason many skaters have more than one skateboard. I would choose between these two... 1. choose a board for the style of skating you want to do the MOST often. That's why I typically get a double kick freestyle board. It's not amazing for street tricks, but, I can do what I want to on it. And I'll choose to ride my freestyle board 9 out of 10 times. So, it's better to buy that for me. 2. If you want a board that does it all, you might want to try a mellow street board since you can use it on transition, curbs, street and freestyle. It's not perfect for all the styles, but it's friendly to all of them. After you choose that board, you can adjust the set up to be friendly to other styles. For example, with the right size trucks and offset freestyle wheels, you can freestyle a bigger street board more easily.

would you recommend using a 7.3 because i got one and made a mistake its a 7.75 and i think its way to big for my size any tips im finding it impossible to do tricks like pogos and flips and hand flips. do i need a smaller tail?

Hi! I think everyone is a little different. I'm a smaller skater. 5'1" tall. And I love the larger 7.6 and 7.75 freestyle boards. But my much taller freestyle pro friends skate 7.3 boards. The 7.3 boards flip faster, are lighter and are shorter. So, it can definitely help with flips and hand flips and no handed pogos etc. I don't find them easier to skate in general for myself. If you're a beginner, everything is hard! So, don't worry too much. If you've been skating for a while, it might be worth to try a smaller board and see if it's more comfortable 😃

I did try the 8" bixby, but I liked the 7.6 way more. Which is why I planned on trying the 7.4 next. But ended up here 😂
