We have arrived in Malaysia right in time for the festival seasons. It is great to be part of this all, we do like the Chinese New Year that has started yesterday, the celebrations, the foods, the lion, the firecracker. Yesterday we wanted to see a lion dance so bad and I considered this to be a lion hunt - did we succeed? Let's see....

If you like lion dance, be sure to check out the ones scheduled to perform at malls. Those are typically performed by more veteran/experienced teams that often involve acrobatic acts on poles.

Oh gosh, such lovely Chinese New Year decors. There are a lot more of these decors at other Malls. Yeah, it also rained in Penang. Chinese New Year will be celebrated for a fortnight and most of the shops/eateries will be closed on Day 1&2 of CNY.

Wanna let you know that shop was blessed by the lions for good business/luck and prosperity. An "angpow" (red packet with money) will be given to that troupe of lion dancers after the performance. My late father was a lion dancer 😀🤓

Lunar New Year is celebrated with a lot of noises using fireworks & fire crackers to ward of evil spirits. Lion dancers are welcomed into Chinese business premises to sort of "cleanse" their business spaces & bring in luck & prosperity for the new lunar year.

lion dance, shorter costume with lion head design with shorter nose like a cat/lion nose.... only required 2 people@4 legs of the lion. dragon dance, very long costume with dragon head design which longer nose like a dog/dragon nose and many people holding the costume poles because its very long costume.

I love the temples I wish I knew more about them. Some devotees swear by them, highly educated white collar ones too. One story I heard was a pregnant woman having nightmares of a ghoul or something. Once she went into a temple and without saying a word the master asked her if she was having nightmares and got rid of it for her, and she was fine after. It's hard to prove anything but I find paranormal stuff like these so cool. The backstories and personalities of the deities are fascinating too.

Lots of Chinese working in KL would have left for their respective homes outside KL for the Lunar New Year making KL relatively quiet with less traffic jams & almost empty parking lots. Chinese restaurants still operating on the first few days of the New Year will definitely hike their prices to compensate for their sacrificing their celebration time with loved ones. The higher prices is also because a lot of Chinese eating places would have closed for the celebration making far less choices of Chinese food availability anywhere in the country.
