5:00 The buttons in the initial prototype were distributed on both sides. But in beta testing with gamers, they preferred all the buttons on one side, so they dont have to take the hand off the mouse when changing volume etc. 12:00 3D audio is a bit more complicated that phase reversal. ITD, ILD, Room reflections, Head-Shadow and head movements play a part in our brain perceiving audio direction. 35:00 - The software for windows / mac have almost all the options (EQ setups, HRTF ) has been available on the site. - Have you tried it ? The reason it appears as 3 different devices is for compatibility. For most PCs the 7.1 mode will work. For PS4 and Switch, the mobius needs to appear as a 2Channel device for it to work. When you switch between the USB modes, it is like unplugging a DAC and plugging a different one. WASAPI works in 2 Channel Mode. The difference between bluetooth Headtracker and Mobius is, on the Mobius the information is processed with almost zero latency. Bluetooth latency is not present.

@@zeram01 yes 7.1 surround only works on pc and Mac. BUT in consoles you can have "virtual stereo" speaker which is not as impressive but some people enjoy it

So, the mic boom is not for show. You claim they don't need it, but it's the exact opposite. You can get away with how your go pro and such works because your room is near silent. But if I'm hammering on my keyboard, those types of mics are going to pick it all up, among other things. The correct way to deal is to get the mic as close to the mouth as possible. It's how all AV production works, it's how headsets work, and there's a reason they still do. Because otherwise the mics SUCK. Sure, your phone can manage to hold a conversation 6 feet from your face, but it doesn't make for a quality experience. And if you've ever tried speakerphone in an airport, you'd know why. So next time, please remember why headsets have boom mics. It's not for show.

WASAPI does indeed work with JRiver. Have used this since I got my Mobius, (main phones are LCD X's). Change the Mobius to Hi Res first, launch your player the Mobius will be listed as Mobius Hi Res Device.

If you're using Bluetooth with your android phone.. Highly suggest turning on developer mode and going into the Bluetooth settings and changing code to LDAC and upping basically every setting. There were 2-3 that when changed had a significant improvement over the system default setting

The high res mode is higher bitrate. The reason these things don't work with WASAPI is because they are in a fixed bitrate and don't support multiple bitrates like you'd expect out of a typical DAC.

Hi-res (or high res) is 24/96 mode. The default 2.0 mode is 16/48 probably for compatibility. Unless you are only listening to 16/48 (and that's not CD or 44.1) then you would probably get better results for music from high res, even for cd audio running through jriver, roon, Tidal hq or whatever. Since you can't bypass the electronics, the USB high res mode is overall the best sounding mode IMO (compared to line in) - I've had mine for a few weeks now.

Switching to different USB devices on various modes is actually great. Configure all 3 once and you don't have to switch settings when you want different qualities. I see why it's a half at first but I really wish the GSX 1000 would do this, too. As it is when swapping between music and gaming I end up toggling a bunch of things in control panel.

While a mic on the side of the cup, on top of your head, wherever, will pick up your voice just fine you need a boom if you want to use two mics for ideal noise cancellation. i.e. mic facing your mouth picks up your voice, 2nd mic facing out picks up outside noise and tried to remove it from the audio. Sure noise cancellation degrades audio quality, but it's much better/less annoying for communication purposes.

Yes 100% confirmed I have both. Wired (but no power off passthrough) and LDAC the Mobius sounds way way way clearer, better timbre, and attenuation. I am really surprised but this is the best for now of the Bluetooth headphones.

Just FYI the firmware update corrected a lot of zeeos complaints. It saves your mode, EQ setting and all. Tbh mobius is not a review friendly headphone as it's not just plug in and play. I think this falls on audeze for not making things "simpler" but to me as an end user I have no trouble getting around all the buttons, modes, etc

I got these with the kickstarter on IndieGogo, so I got them at 50% of what they are now when they first came out. I have just had to send in the second pair back because there is a serious design flaw at the headphone yoke. The plastic is just too thin, and after about 1 year of use it will break. I want to emphasize they have only been office headphones, and I have never dropped or travelled with them. So far Audeze has been nice enough and will provide with new ones, but I wish they would fix that area of the headphones with better materials. Other than that the sound is really great.

Based on your own example of racing, when the engine sound is in front and you look outside your left window, the engine noise will also be outside your window in the center and not play on your right ear...

After 1,5 years, the plastic at the hinges stated cracking real bad. I sent them to warranty, buy I'm pretty sure they'll say its my fault, even though i never dropped them. I really like the sound quality, and the Bluetooth sound using LDAC is better than wired Hi-fi mod for some reason. 34:30 Also your description of use with VR was backwards. If your headset does not have head tracking. Then you would be correct. But most if not all do. In which case your point of view is relative to the position of your head. In the same way the sound is. Making it the perfect solution for that scenario. Which is the opposite of not mattering.

I don't know if the webcam tracking is responsive and accurate enough, but it would have the benefit of not drifting away. Nx should just code a feature that uses both a camera and a gyroscope.

you can almost guarantee that this headset will break within 1-2 years of use. the connection between the bridge and the clocks are made of extremely thin plastic with no support. once the plastic cracks there is no saving the headset, and it will completely break off within a day or two. this is especially stupid since the clocks are extremely heavy compared too normal and has less support than normal clocks. if you consistently hold them like this 0:15 the plastic will definitely crack within a couple of months. if you go on any website and read through reviews you will see that this has happened to hundreds of people

Just a correction, VR needs it (3D head tracking), e.g. look at or away from a talking NPC. I have a HTC Vive and it's much better with headphones and it so accurate with no drift because it has 2 base towers firing laser at you for reference points

You didn't mention the HQ software: www.audeze.com/audeze-hq-application It allows you to enter your head measurements (circumference, inter-aural distance) and set the room ambience (echo, mostly). It's essential if you have a non-average head or want to dial down the stadium effect. I use a noise generator and move my head around in 3D manual to verify the parameters. They should have an even sound field with brown or white noise and have a pretty consistent volume without sudden jumps in loudness. Hi-Res completely disables 3d, and sets the bitrate to 9600, so I guess the effect is taking the room DSP calculations out of the signal path. Works well with flat. PS4 users need to plug into a USB port, and set it to 2-ch to play games. No surround support, as it was a cut feature.

the only reason i prefer the microphone in front of my face is that i usually game laid back about 6 feet from any table, also its the best way i know to block out loud background noises. anyone recommend otherwise?

I have the Audeze Mobius, the 3D sound is working perfectly. but i dont like it. dont really feel like i need it, my ocd kicks in and makes it weird. also for some games it just irrelevant, like RTS or diablo like games. but the worst part is that the audio quality gets destroyed with anything that isnt the 2CH Hi-Res mode with the Flat preset. the second you activate 7.1\8CH you really feel the processing! sound stage goes narrow, treble is getting overwhelming and starts to hurt, bass is weaker in the low end and everything feels like a meh pair of headphones, like a 50$ ones. in the correct settings (that i mentioned before), they sound good. highs are clear and not shrieking, bass is much better and the sound stage finally feels right. but still, not worth the 400$ sound quality wise, as if you only buy it for music. i only bought that pair because i needed a closed back and i just heard of the "new audeze gaming headphones" that are going to be planar. because i already own the hifiman 400i, i know that i like the planar sound and just went for it before i even knew its gonna be wireless, 3D audio and all those features. i bought them for 280 or 300$ in the indigogo campaign, and im happy about the purchase because they serve their purpose, and i didnt develop high expectations. i like the 400i much better, but sometimes i just cant use themn because they are open back, their biggest advantage is also their biggest disadvantage :)

I personally HATE the head tracking for music. The head tracking has to be on to get the room and dap effect. I love what it does to the sound as it makes these closed headphones sound like open headphones with a large sound stage. In 2 channel mode there is literally no sound stage. I find the sound quality also is worse in 2 channel mode. I prefer listening to music with the 3d audio on for the room effects. Here is the problem. I like moving my head to the music. I bobbed my head. That Fucks with the sound with a capital F when you move your head around. So to enjoy music from these I have to lock my neck like a vise. I really wish I had the option to disable head tracking with the 3d audio effects enabled. One last nitpick. Wish they had ANC as well. They would be my forever go to headphone after that for anything. Period.
