I noticed I never reacted to this video even though it was crucial for me mental wellbeing. Thanks to this video of you, there is now a stealth camper doing crazy adventures on youtube while wearing this portable CPAP. Your video helped me to break out of a bedroom with a electricity socked and go outdoors and camp in the craziest places like a WW2 foxhole of the battle of the bulge, an abandoned slaughterhouse or in a nice and quiet forest. I always thought a CPAP would tie me to a bed, cut me out of adventure but that isn't so at all. So thank you for this video and showing me cpap and adventures can combine! ❤ I'm now a proud and active member of the worldwide #StealthCampingAlliance!🤘 If you like, I will do a shoutout in one of my future videos.

Great video and setup, only thing is the humidity exchange units are $45 each and need replacing every 30 days. Good idea though just need to allow for that if considering the BMC mask unless they are available cheaper somewhere. Cheers!

Interesting review, thanks. I live in Melbourne and semi regularly go camping with my CPAP, using my regular Resmed Airsense 10. I bought my device during 2017, initially used a borrowed AGM battery and an inverter to run the device. Only got about about four hours before the inverter started making a loud noise. I think it was a dodgy battery. I was spurred to get my own 100 Ah battery, a 120 watt solar panel, a DC to DC adaptor for connecting the CPAP to the battery and using Anderson plugs from the solar panels to the battery. I work with technical people and they changed one end of the DC lead to also have an Anderson plug, all connections have heat shrink and are waterproof. On the battery, all these plugs are protected by a plastic container, I keep this outside and put a tarp over the battery and connections just to be safe. This works well but the battery weighs perhaps 16 kg, or 35lbs. It all works a treat and I tend to use the humidifier during the longer summer months and block the humidity during the shorter sun days. My combination works very well, during summer I get away for about two weeks, using the CPAP each night. Where I go is off grid. I wonder, is there anything special about the power source you are using, special plugs? I have a 27,000 mAh power bank and wonder if I could use that as a source?
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for sharing that great information! Here's the thing about cpap batteries is most of them will run fine on DC power (12 or 24v). Some you need to get a DC converter to increase the voltage ie from 12 to 24 v. The other thing is that if you are not using the humidifier or heated tube then they actually draw very little power and even small power banks can run them for a full night. The small battery i'm using is only 98 watt hours (8166mAh) and it will run the Z2 for about 12-16 hours depending on the pressure requirements. If you are using a humidifier the draw is much higher and you need a larger battery. I'm soon to release a small, light weight battery that can run the Z2 for 5 days on a single charge! and a small 50 watt portable solar blanket that can charge it. Very cool! Should be finished in a about 1 month. Cheers. Nick

Your videos are super helpful. I've had a Z1 for years that I use camping and traveling. When it's really cold outside I put the little air pump in my sleeping bag to preheat the air. It does bring cold air into the bag but worth it to not freeze your throat. I've experimented with a number of $70-$100 (USD) battery packs from China (via amazon) and have found that many either don't meet their rated power or loose capacity after a few use/recharge cycles.

Thanks mate. Seems awfully expensive for what it is. Be a lot cheaper to buy a small 12 volt marine battery (US $100) and a 100 watt solar panel (US $100). Most units run on 12 volts. I wish they would publish accurate current draw information. I don't think I'd let the kiddos get too close too that croc water ...
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, yeah i hear you mate. I'm in the process of developing my own 'cheaper' alternatives for use with the gear. I think people stay away from the big batteries due to the weight and size but i hear what you're saying. No crocs down here in the South but plenty up north. Always got be on the lockout for the big Salties, even out in the ocean! I think it's hard for the companies to publish accurate current draw info because of all the different settings and pressure requirements etc but i guess you could make some sort of table up to give customers a bit of an idea. The Z2 is awesome though and great value here in Australia. Cheers bro

G'day Jason, most people use travel cpap machines just for travel however there is certainly a group who use them full time. There is a way you can add humidification to them but it's a little tricky - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5-9c4mLpN1ghc0

Even full size at home systems don't really use much power if that's your concern. The Airsense power supply units can supply 90W at 24v, so 3.75A. The Dreamstation 1 power supply is rated at 6A at 12V. If you used a humidity exchanger like the mobile units they draw significantly less than these power supplies are rated for, since heating the humidifier chambers account for the largest portion of energy drawn.

It seems impractical to have a smaller battery just for the CPAP. Why am I considering a smaller unit? The Dreamstation is too big for kayak camping. After 2 years, do you still consider this unit a a great choice? Thanks!

I'm suffering terrible daytime sleepiness, AHI reading VERY low (less than 3), setting averaging about 6% but it can regularly jump to 13 (my max setting) and usage averaging only 4 + hours before I rip it off & go to the office couch to sleep without anything. I'm not sure how to solve this but it's wrecking my life. Thanks for this video. The medistrom lasts about 5hrs for someone at 13cmH2O without humidity using S9 or DS1. Perhaps it's different with the Z2? My husband is at pressure of 7 and his DS Go + medistrom can run for about 10 hours. I say about because he uses auto-cpap. We take the medistrom solar panel with us when we go canoe camping for 7 days and it takes 3-4 hours to charge in full sun in Canadian north. In Oz, maybe 1 hour :-).

Hi Larissa, thanks for the feedback. He should still get a full night on 13cm using the S9 or DS1. Perhaps call medistrom and see what they have to say about it. Hey mate, welcome to the channel. Most people will use the travel machines as a secondary machine as they generally don't have water based humidification systems (as it would make them too big for travel) and they can also be a little noisier compared to the full size units that have more room for sound insulation etc. There are plenty of people who use them as their every day unit though. Hey I have a resmed 10 auto sense which is definitely not as portable as your great little machine, however I use it at home on 240 volts and when I’m camping I use a 12 volt transformer (from resmed) plugged into the camping battery and away I go. It doesn’t drain the battery to badly and the next day the solar panels or the car alternator charges the auxiliary camping battery back up. I love your camping spot, it looks great.

Do you like the Z2. I have a Z1 that is flaking out so I have to replace, but I've never liked my z1. The problem is that the z1 would ramp up if it detected a leak, but it won't ramp down after you adjust your mask. Since day one I've had to cycle the on/off switch to get around this problem. It can get so bad as almost blowing the mask off your face. So does the Z2 do the same?

Hey David, to be totally honest, the Z1 had a lot of issues but the Z2 is sooo much better! So much more reliable, 29% quieter and it's really cool. If you're struggling with it ramping up like that then just set a pressure cap on the auto max level to stop it going too high. I do that. Here's how you do it - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIm8gIh5ZrqAd5Y

Sorry to sound presumptuous, but do you only get sleep apnea on your back? If so have you tried side sleeping so the airway stays open naturally? I did the sleep test and was found I get bad sleep apnea on my back plus gasping snoring etc but I don’t make sound on my side as the airway seems to stay open 🤔 Also have you tried the chin strap style head gear that holds the mouth shut and stops the lower jaw from falling back and closing the airway when your on your back? Thanks for the vid and awesome location 👍🏻
@CPAPReviews

Hi there, great question! The answer is no but for many apnea is more severe whilst supine (on your back). Also some people only have sleep apnea whilst they are supine so a position adjustment device that prevents supine sleeping works just fine! Also if you can sleep on a wedge pillow (on a slightly inclined angle) it will also help! Great comment. Thank you. Nick

@@CPAPReviews I only did the sleep test while supine so I can’t scientifically say I don’t get apnea when on my side too, but I guess I feel like I get a good nights sleep on my side plus I am told I never snore or suddenly gasp for air on my side etc so I just assume it works I suppose 🤔

Hi Nick, I’m finding lately after using the Z2 all night, that it is not logging data, in fact it shows up like it hasn’t been used at all? It’s linked to my phone, and even if I press the green refresh button (sync) it says sync is complete but no data gets logged ( on my phone or on the z2) ? Any ideas ? Seems to be hit and miss if it retains information!

What is your pressure set at ? What is the power capacity of the battery ? My CPAP is 17 , which on an 800 CCA 12 volt deep cycle battery, about 60 pounds, will run for about 17 hours I have not found any power pack that has enough power to run my CPAP for more than 2 hours. If you have a low pressure, say 5, a power pack might be enough to run your machine for a night
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the machine is Auto and i highly recommend that everyone who is on a fixed pressure cpap change to AUTO as it will most likely result in a 30-40% pressure reduction within a week. The battery is 97 watt hours from memory and even on a max 20cm you should still get a full nights use from it. You need to turn of your heated tube / humidifier settings on your device as that will chew the battery very quickly. The pump motor itself doesn't use much power at all (it's just a little fan/blower), it's the heating elements that will drain your power. Cheers

With the heat moisture exchange filter does that help warm the air? I am concerned re using travel machines camping in cold weather. With my transcend i get a very cold nose which is too painful to sleep with. ( I did use a fleece CPAP hose cover with it)
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, great question! Unfortunately the answer is no. The only thing that can heat the air is a heated tube system. If you have a access to a powerpoint then you can check out the HYBERNITE HEATED TUBE - amzn.to/3swmg6f . This is a universal heated tube that will work with any machine (except airmini). Other than that there's only really the tube covers which you already have. Even normal humidifiers don't actually heat the air, they just add moisture to it. All the best. Nick

Hey man, i'm biased on this but the Z2 is awesome. I don't have a whole lot of feedback on the 365 although from my industry insiders it's apparently not that great and unreliable. I'm about to release some pretty incredible battery systems for the Z2 but it will only be available in Australia in the short term and then in the U.S in 2022. I'm sure there's heaps of reviews you can read online but i personally think the Z2 is the best travel pap on the market. They're currently sold out here in AU. Cheers

With my z2, I often feel like it isn’t moving enough volume of air. The pressure feels high enough but it’s like it’s having to move through a small opening, so when I inhale, I wind up having to suck air youth the machine. If I dial up the pressure, then I’m fighting to exhale against the machine. Anyone else have this experience? I just can’t get comfortable.

Hi Nick. Thanks for the vid. I have a deep cycle battery that I run through an inverter and plug the unit straight in. Works ok provided I’m in a car, the battery is a pig to drag around. . I take my air sense 10 rather than the travel unit. The air mini sounds like a freight train, particularly on the exhale from memory. I certainly can’t sleep through it and my wife reckons I can sleep through anything. . My CPAP dealer said all travel units are loud. Yours seemed quiet in operation. Is your travel unit loud?
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mick, The Z2 is certainly the quietest travel cpap on the market but your Airsense will certainly be quieter and all travel cpap machines are little noisier compared to the full size units. It also really depends on what pressure you're running. When they are less than 12 they seem to be great but they do star to get a higher pitch once they get above that so i normally recommend to people just to cap the upper pressure limit at 12cm. You might not get the same apnea control but it will still give you a good night sleep and it will certainly stop the snoring and keep the misses happy. No travel cpap is perfect but this one is the best by a long way. Cheers

Personally, I find the whirring noise (pressure from 11 onwards) around my DreamWear to be quite irritating when comparing it with my Dream Station. FYI, configuration on my Z2 is set to APAP level 2, equipped with inline humidifier & QTube. I wonder if this is the DreamWear thing, or it is really me being sensitive to these noise.

I’m interested in learning more but really want to invest in a travel pack machine so when I’m out riding my motorbike and I camp or stay overnight somewhere I’m not having to carry around the 10. Also considering joint your groups but I’m doing a little more research before I dive in. Would be really keen to yarn with you or someone affiliated with you to discuss my options. If you are able to mate can you hit me up on my channel my email is there. Much appreciated 👍🏾🇦🇺
