I was only diagnosed with sever sleep apnea a few weeks ago & picked up my rental CPAP machine yesterday from the sleep study place as the ones they sell are about $1600 Australian, but can't stand things around my face when I sleep so have not worn it yet. These videos have been instrumental in the information I now know & help me in my purchase of my own machine as I knew absolutely nothing before hand & added peace of mind, so I subscribed after the 1st video. That you're Australian is just a super bonus, thanks so much, cheers.

Hey Niko, you’re a champ ! I mean it. I have been buying and using cpap equip since 2006. It was mind boggling even then as to what to buy. It’s not much better even now, probably worst. I agree with your very fair advice on all the relevant factors to consider before buying a unit, very fair indeed. I prefer a real store but the cowboys are plenty tempting too. Please keep being a champ, for the people. ( I used ResMed n Respironic units.)

Thank you for your videos. Ive been binge watching them all. I was just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. 58 apnea episode and 224 hypopneas/per hr. RDI is 54. 😔 Im so sad but relieved that my constant sleepiness has a cause. Ive never felt rested. My PHP just thought I was lazy and told me nothing was wrong. So glad I went to an ENT who referred me for a sleep study. I am looking forward to finding out what a good night sleep feels like. I have another sleep study scheduled for next Thursday to do mask fittings and find my perfect pressure.

As an example, I own a Resmed VPAP Adapt S7 enhanced, a VPAP Adapt SV S9 and have used an AirCurve 10 ASV. All three machines deliver IDENTICAL therapy in my experience - same protocol/algorithm, same precision, same humidiy control, even similar levels of noise - all three are data capable too (via Resscan / SleepyHead / OSCAR). I picked up the S7 (my 'backup' machine) as a like-new refurb with about 1,500 hours on it (they're rated for 20,000) for $200 US inc the humifider... my S9 with humidifier was also a refurb with less than 200 hours on it for $600 US. A brand new AirCurve 10 ASV runs about $4000!

This a fantastic review. I have been diagnosed with severe obstructive and central sleep APNEA. I have looked everywhere for unbiased guidance on what to consider in buying a CPAP machine. I currently use a cheap rental APAP machine. It performs great. But two have broken in the last three months. I now know I need an ASV machine but what all to look for has been allusive. This gives me much more ammunition for the hunt. I also plan to consider "Sleeplay" in my quest to purchase a quality machine. Thanks.

I really wasn't given much choice when I started sleep therapy. I was told that due to the severity of my condition I had to use an Auto Bipap machine with a humidifier, temperature controlled hose and a full face mask. I'm at about 18cmh2o on the high side. I was also told if I didn't accept therapy I would loose my commercial driver's license.

Hi Malcolm, thanks for sharing your positive experience with the Luna IQ. Certainly one of the best value for money machines on the market! Just as good as the big manufacturers in my opinion and less than half the cost. I like that it has the 5 year warranty also. Just a quick note, if you're not using the humidifier, make sure you have the heater plate / humidifier turned off. You don't want the plate heating if there's no water in it. Cheers mate. Nick

I bought a cpap machine because its been half a year since ive been trying to get my night-time arousals treated, but i couldnt take it anymore. Ive been using it for a while, but I am still waking up in the middle of the night although it says my AHI is 2.8. In terms of my sleep hygiene, it really could not be much better as I have finetuned everything in that regard. My inlab study is still several weeks away, and I would love to hear from you about what could be waking me up every night. Thanks in advance, love your videos!
@CPAPReviews
@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, there's not many people who just close their eyes and sleep 8 hours without waking throughout the night. It's very natural to wake up a few times during the night. Normally we wake up naturally after a REM period (when we do our dreaming) and perhaps toilet breaks and other reasons but i wouldn't get to concerned about waking up once or twice a night. Your apnea is very well under control :-)

Overall I agree but a couple of things I don't agree with. 1) The auto machines can cost hundreds of dollars more than the fixed pressure machines. I don't think everyone has that kind of money to spare. 2) So long as there isn't a kill switch in the machine, and it has the features I need (including software support) I'd pick an older proven machine at the end of its product cycle every time. You just don't know what the common faults are until they've been out for a while. Look at the failure rates on the F&P Icon series. The data's also very important for compliance if you need it for work or do have to report your condition to the motor registry. It's less of a problem today but it use to be that the CPAP companies would try to make it hard for you to get access to your own data on the assumption that you're too stupid to participate in your own therapy and would only misuse it.

G'day from Melbourne my friend. You can't go wrong with both those machines. The only thing i don't like about the F&P gear is that you can't use them with batteries. They are AC only machines. All other CPAP machines are DC which means it's easy to use them with a battery system if the power goes out or you want to go camping etc. Other than that, i'm a fan. Cheers

In this video I'm just curious why you don't recommend starting off with cpap therapy mode first? Isn't it best to buy a machine that has both options? I found that the automatic setting wasn't catching my apnoea events and I would jolt wide awake, even after experimenting with different pressures the auto therapy just wouldn't do its job. My problem is I stop breathing as soon as I fall asleep but I don't technically have central sleep apnoea. CPAP constant pressure without any ramp or EPR on is the only thing that catches that first apnoea event, otherwise I literally can't fall asleep at all. My Resmed 10 has developed an internal leak, it's noisy and nothing I have done to fix it has worked 😢 I'm so tired

Both great machines and very similar in a lot of features and specs. I'd probably go the SleepStyle just because i think F&P are a better more ethical company with better culture and it was also released about 4 years after the AS10. The only thing i don't like is that it is an AC machine and does not work well on batteries and i like camping etc. Cheers

What machine would you recommend for server S.A.? I just had my 2 night sleep study and was told I quit breathing 120x per hour which is considered server. Hey bro, welcome to the channel! Thanks for your excellent questions. So firstly, when it comes to the machines, they all do the same thing mate, mild, moderate, severe, it's all apnea and they will all provide fantastic treatment. Let me know your 'budget' and i can give you a few to take a look at (ie, are you loaded or on a budget etc). Regarding the sex life. This is a really important question and one that isn't talked about enough especially for young people but for everyone. If you are just having a one night stand etc just forget the damn machine for the night! If you're wanting a relationship then you really just need to be upfront and honest. Straight out tell them you have a sleeping condition and the cpap helps you sleep. If someone doesn't want to be with you because of that then do you really want to be with that sort of a person?! Hell no! A good person would want you to be healthy and happy. Jump into bed, fool around and have a good time and then when it's time for lights out, mask on and good night! You might even meet someone who asks you to put your mask on during sex! If you meet that person Marry them instantly :-). Take care brother. Nick

Hi , I have the Resmed Autosense 10 Autoset. It’s a Great machine!!! After using it for a few months, my events are still ranging from 4 to 9 per hour. More of the events are around 7/8/9... I’m concerned as to why I’m not getting a lower result. Should I increase the pressure? Auto? Fixed? I like the auto idea so that if I have issues in the REM stage, the machine can increase pressure. The consultant won’t listen to me and says it’s ok bla bla.... can you maybe suggest a pressure setting? Auto ramp, pressure range 8-12? 7-12? 9-14? What May help to reduce the events? The consultant set it 4-12 and I felt like I was suffocating. So I changed it to 8-12 or... does the heat settings make much difference? It’s summer her so I don’t have it on auto yet. In winter I will. Any advise would really help . Thanks maté!

You need a backup. After that, it depends on what you have. Machines that predate Resmed S9 or Philips Remstar aren't worth anything as supplies availability is gone (for instance, new humidifier bin). So do a check on the online stores - do they still sell the supplies for your unit? If not, sell cheap (like $25). If they still sell supplies, then look at your hours of usage.

Hi i wanted to say your videos have made me understand cpap technology more . It resulted me getting my first resmed Airsense 10 (black) machine however i saw your recommendation for F30i i tried cushion sizes from Medium, Small wide and wide (ordered yesterday). Noticed after 6hrs of usage , the cushion on the nostril area seems to have a blocking "sensation"" i actually traded from a full face mask to F30i was wondering if i need to set a different pressure for F30i or should i remain it as it is for full face mask. ;) Also , i feel like cutting away the middle nostril part from the cushion got a feeling the airholes are too small. What do you think ?

My ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet allows a pressure decrease of up to 3 on exhale. I usually need a preassure of 11-12 on an average night and having exhalation relief on 3 makes it notably easier to exhale. If you need a higher pressure though 3 might not be enough, in which case you'd need a BiPAP machine.

Thanks for the note, "BMC Luna IQ" brand in Turkey "Respirox G2S" called being sold under different brands. But we have hesitations because it is made in China. BMC's price is nearly $ 230 but Philips dreamstation $ 930 in turkey. Do you think BMC G2S would be the right choice?

@CPAPReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, i know the BMC Luna brand well and they are extremely reliable machines. The only thing that can go wrong with the IQ is the humdifier failure but it's a relatively easy fix of just replacing the humidifier plate. From my experience, the BMC Brand is actually far more reliable than the major brands. For example, the BMC IQ in Australia has a 5 year warranty, the dreamstation 2 just released has a 2 year. Hi Brenda, thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear it hasn't been the most pleasant one! Here's a vid i did on cpap pressures and how to fine tune them - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn2XlpqtedepmMk . Yes the auto will adjust accordingly however there's always room for improvement especially the comfort side of things which it sounds like you need. I personally would rarely have a patient with a starting pressure of 9. That seems awfully high to me especially for someone on an auto. And when it comes to your sneezing, i would be increasing your humidity levels and make sure your using a heated tube system. I think a lot of the issues you are having though will be from incorrect pressure settings. Here's a vid on humidification also kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWrVlpejg7iqo8k . Best wishes. Nick

Hi my daughter 13 year old and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Quad. From sleep study we found out she doesn't have sleep apnea but she snores due to airway obstruction. Last 8 months she has been using Philips Trilogy 100 in bipap mode of 6/12, however doctor thinks that would not be necessary anymore as her sleep study shows no apnea. Pulmonologist new recommendation is to use an Apap machine. Trilogy 100 was a great device however it has been recalled and insurance is not going to cover it anymore. We have been trying to learn this ResMed aircurve one but it doesn't seem same as the trilogy. The air flow seems lot more harder than Trilogy. Even with the minimum setting of 4 in ResMed aircurve seems lot more air flow / pressure than what trilogy 100 provides in a setting of 4. Just wanted to know your thoughts. We wanted to try with dream station 2 Advanced but that is hard to find.

Hi Darren, you don't need to use distilled water mate. Ordinary tap water is fine, you just might need to clean the water chamber a bit more frequently as the minerals from the tap water will be left behind in the chamber when the water evaporates. Long term better to move somewhere that is actually child friendly? No way should a parent have to worry about what is a "medium cost" to help a child's health.

Ironically I didn't get a choice of which CPAP machine my doctor put an order in to a medical company who then issued me one thing with my wife is it different in the rest of the world?

My local NHS sleep clinic didn't give me a choice when they decided I needed a CPAP machine; I didn't know much anyway, I am having to learn about it all now, so I couldn't have made an informed choice. Sadly I am stuck with a Philips death station until a replacement unit comes along

Are you in the US? You have a choice. Return the machine and tell doc you want a script for a different machine and explain why. I did my research before seeing the doc so was able to tell him what I wanted and he wrote the script for that. If you go through Kaiser or the VA, your choices are more limited as they had contracts with Philips for lower prices. You could still get a Resmed, for instance, but it takes more effort to do so. If you are on Medicare, you are renting the machine for 13 months, so you can return it without a qualm for a different machine.

Why buy a dream station, they built a machine that gives you the slow kill, why do you trust such a business with your health an life “Dream Station 11” its what I have, it almost immobilized my ability to even walk.
