I have installed the 16 tooth sprocket early last spring. I have stock exhaust and no ECU tune..yet. It has helped the bike for ride-ability and yes makes the stock bike more enjoyable IMO. I am planning on an ECU flash mostly for fuel cut and jerky throttle response, but with this change it's not as bad as it was before...but still improvement can be made better. So I recommend it with no regrets. As for installation. I have impact gun both electric, and cordless and air driven and don't think any of them would have a problem with it. Without...well don't LOL just use a friends if you don't or not comfortable local bike shop might do it for you......for reference mine is the 18 green cafe in case anyone was interested.

I will be sending my ECU to Ivan next week and have been contemplating a 16 tooth sprocket. This confirms my decision. Thanks!

I was able to get my bike out today for a fun little scoot around my favorite blow off some steam route. One thing that I kept thinking was that I cannot wait to get a different front sprocket on this bike. First gear is annoying with this motorcycle. The nannies kick in far too early, and it makes it sound like the bike has a problem, when it's just an ignition interrupt kicking in because the computer thinks that I'm trying to wheelie the bike. Problem there, is that I wasn't really even getting on it. That said, with the exhaust and tune this bike is so much better. Tell Ivan I said what's up.

Thank you for sharing your experience installing 16 tooth gear, ordered, waiting to install it on 2019 Cafe with Ivan tune (retuned last year) and Delkevic header, stock exhaust, airbox partially modded (short stacks, divider removed, MWR filter). Thanks again. Safe riding!

Just replaced gear, ride is much enjoyable, a little less engine braking even at higher RPMs. Noticed speedometer indicating 40 mph, GPS indicating 36-38 mph, 2-3 miles less than speedometer. I can twist the throttle longer in 1st gear without hitting the limiter, on 4th gear, 70mph I can keep it above 5500rpm where the power kicks in with a little less handlebar buzzing. I love this bike even more! Thanks again for sharing!

I have a 76 kz900 that I still ride so I have the feel of that bike to go off of. So here's what I've done,.16 tooth sprocket perfect, Lowering kit ,use middle hole,Corbin seat to lower more,handle bar risers that go up and back.Now close to the KZ feel.For looks went with the Delkevic 4into4 header had a dyno done.More torgue on lower gears,didn't get much on top end.Fender extenders, and puig cowl.Also added the lighted Z900RS badge and chrome engine guard

Totally unrelated question. Could you measure the distance between the bolts mounting your passenger foot peg brackets to the frame please? Looking to see if an Ohlins preload adjuster bracket for your bike will fit my 2001 Gixxer 1000. Thanks! BTW, preferably in millimeters if you have the tools. Cheers

72mm. Both sides measure the same.

Hey Mr. Mason this is Don. I've finally got on Instagram today like I've said a guy just down the street close his Triumph BMW shop lots of parts and few bikes.

I can see how going to a 16 tooth front sprocket would help out. On my Z900RS, I sometimes start out in 2nd, or when I start, I immediately shift into 2nd, as you are right, 1st is kind of useless. And top gear could be taller on the highway. Would you have to replace the chain as well, or is it long enough to work?
@bmasontv9 ай бұрын
No need to change the chain, provided the wear on it is minimal.

only diff is you will do less rpm on the same speed but you loose some acceleration so some of the fun of a bike is gone
@bmasontv11 ай бұрын
Lost none of the acceleration. Makes the first two gears more usable. Should have come this way from the factory.

You don't buy this bike for sports bike performance,you ride them in a halcyon way....want quick acceleration but a zx10

Aggressive? My 2022 cafe is pretty spot on, in fact sixth gear needs to be a closer ratio to 5th more like the z900 sport bike, the z900 rs 6th gear is already like a overdrive! My 2014 VFR can't out pull my Z900RS, out on top it pulls it back in. The VFR also out handles the Z.

First gear I find low and usually start off in second gear, even with a passenger. I'm thinking up a tooth or two on the rear sprocket to increase torque/ acceleration ?

Can I finally use the whole speedometer with this mod? 😂 really considering this mod though plus tune from Ivan’s. Currently running only Delkevic headers no tune no air box changes
@bmasontv8 ай бұрын
I would highly recommend it, especially with the tune. It will absolutely make the motorcycle feel more traditional if that makes any sense. I would consider the tune mandatory. But yes. I am able to cover the speedometer and have done it a few times.
