Where u can see the improvement the most is 1) the short throws/screen passes that he couldn’t hit at all last season 2) his footwork looked wayyy better then last year. I hope this is a turning point in his career, it’s your team now Zach go out there and change the narrative
@bigchee8263

Exactly. His foot work to me is his biggest issue. His mechanics can be really inconsistent. That’s the case with a lot of these New Age young quarterbacks. My godson is one of the top quarterbacks from the 2023 class. These young guys love these off platform, Patrick Mahomes throws. His dad, who is his coach, has to coach that out of his son sometimes.

O Line needs better play. Too many plays where they gave up and stopped trying to block. They are why Rodgers got hurt.

@@princenikoli not true at all. That injury was actually on Rodgers. It was a cut block which means that it really should have only been a 3 step back and instant throw. Rodgers had Wilson wide open which is who he was looking at and for whatever reason he held onto the ball too long which confuses me.

Tbh Zach only had 2 bad throws/decisions all game. The INT and the one throw when he scrambled to the right and threw back across his body. Not too bad for not prepping with the first team and definitely not expecting to play in the game. Good job Zach

When I slow these plays down, that's similar to my analysis as well. He didn't have a "good" game but there were so many plays where there was nothing there--the Bills defense was solid. This is a larger theme but I think they need to work on his "eject" button when things aren't there and scramble out of the pocket and make something happen (either run or make a defender peel onto him and leave a man open)

Yea, I'm not so high on the play calling either. He was under a lot of pressure virtually every single play, and like I said the play calling got better and adjusted, but you need more deception when your calls are being read that well, and that's a big part of the Bills defense is reading plays.

Zach is a baller. Dude got his ankle stepped on by AVT while falling down and still completed a pass on 3rd down to extend the drive. Hackett needs to move the pocket against the Cowboys and throw in a few designed QB runs. We can't just drop Zach back against their Defense. We need to mix it up.

It felt like he stopped doing a bunch of the old habits. Holding onto the ball too long, rolling out of pockets that are clean, missing, easy, short, and intermediate throws, and forcing the ball where it doesn’t need to go. His completion percentage is 10 points higher than his average. He rebounded great after the interception. It definitely feels like a performance he can build on.

Ik we all are devastated by Rodgers being out, but we have to be encouraged by Wilson. Coming into an almost impossible spot and atmosphere, he made a bad play with the INT in the first half. He then came back in the second half and made some really great plays. I think the toss while falling down to Lazard was awesome. Wilson made some really gritty plays and he helped us win this game.

The INT was sooo bad that it overshadowed a otherwise decent game. And it was a bad one. But outside of that INT, he looked decent. Plus a 66% completion and 81 passer rating, much better screen pass and short pass accuracy, better footwork, and not as many fast balls to receivers 5 yards away. I don’t understand when people say “there was no improvement” and “same ol Wilson” because the normal complaints were not the problem. Oh and most importantly it was a win no one expected after losing Rodgers

ZW has a ton of potential. Could do some great things for us. That being said, he needs that it factor. He shies away from contact and seems almost afraid to make the big plays. If he has that dawg in him, he can do great things, and I sincerely hope replacing one of the all time greats can motivate him to step up.

@@CGRLW Specifically, I think of the way he scrambles. Instead of stepping up in a collapsing pocket, he instead chooses to run 30 yards behind the line of scrimmage and throw it out of bounds. That works in college when DBs drop cover as soon as it looks like the QB is running anywhere, but NFL DBs show a bit more poise and keep an eye on the receivers downfield. Stuff like that will just lead to the long yardage sacks and unforced errors Jet fans have seen the past few years. He certainly has his moments- that Milano hit was absolutely brutal and he took it like a champ (another reason to be hopeful this season will be different)- but unfortunately ZW lacks the elusiveness of a Mahomes or Hurts and needs to be be willing to get hit like that if he wants to play on an elite level. Fingers crossed that he does, he certainly has the arm to be an NFL QB, but he needs to elevate his game and be willing to lay it all out on the field for sure.

Go to 2:52 and pause it. He has FOUR CLEAR CHOICES THERE, (if you include running) but one of the four is a RIDICULOUS CHOICE. Yet, that's the choice he takes? He decides NOT to dump it to RB, or throw it to the shallow curl, or run through that BUS SIZED HOLE, he decides to throw it to a guy who is SO COVERED you can BARELY SEE HIM. That defender is on him like WHITE ON RICE.

He shouldn't have thrown it, but imo it looks more like a ball placement issue and seeing the opening too late. There is a tight window he could throw to right in the middle of the logo, he just hangs it out way out to the right and misses the hole completely. He was "open" for a moment

fingers crossed vs Dallas, short week and tall order. But Zach MUST beat the Pats 1pm on 9/24 and get revenge for last year's 10-3 bottoming out. If Zach beats Belichick I'll believe.

Rooting for the kid he got put in a really tight spot week 1. Nobody expected it. Could be better but he wasn’t even the worst QB on the field that night.

Watching the passing plays against Buffalo, it’s pretty evident that Wilson was under a great deal of pressure nearly every play. I have the same concerns about Wilson starting again as everyone else, but what QB is going to excel under this type of constant pressure? Need better play from the OLine and to establish the run game early just to help open things up. Hopefully with one game under their belts and another week of practice together we’ll see more consistent line play equating to better protection. Tough task versus Dallas.

That throw with his ankle stepped on and falling down on a rope to Lazard on 3rd down - if Mahomes made that throw it would be all anyone could talk about - Buck & Aikman barely reacted to it - along with the unnecessary roughness hit as he was going down - dude doesn’t get any love - seriously WTF

Totally agree with most comments, definitely not a ZW fan, but give the kid credit, he almost does better when he has less time to think....he's not gonna be accurate, but decision making is more assertive and quicker and better than last year....and the hits he took, he looks durable for now....we run effectively, give him a little more time and let the D get some rest, I'll take being 7-4 with AVT and breece/Cook right now.....probably more like 5-6 though.

After watching this, Zach didn't play that bad of a game. He wasn't making those short throws last year and it's encouraging to see him do it now. That Milano pick was stupid though. That's seven yards easy if he throws to Lazard instead of Brownlee. Just gotta hope he plays well in Dallas.

Q: 1:58 in the video, 10:45 left in the second, Wilson at the top of his drop back and needs to move because of pressure. 83 looks wide open 2 yards from the first down and Wilson has the line of sight. Why doesn’t he throw it? Is this an example of bad decision making and vision or is it just normal? He ends up running and falling around like last year. What am I missing here

I don't think this team can win a SB without a high powered offense but if Zach can manage games and hit 65% of his passes the Jets can at least contend for a wild card which would be something. The interception was very bad but that and the second scramble to the right sideline where he tried to hit Lazard were the only two real mistakes. Otherwise he stayed within what is admittedly an easy game plan, screens and slants and other 10-15 yard concepts, but if the Jets can execute that I think Cook and Hall can be really effective.
