We asked, and you answered! Now it’s our turn. This is Raising Heights with Zach and Tori Roloff. Today we’re diving into assumptions and questions you submitted on Instagram to set things straight - from Zach’s interests and habits to our Disney trips, our stance on parenting and lifestyle decisions and the shame stay-at-home parents get today, we’re here to unpack it all.
We share answers to the questions everyone’s been asking:
👉 Do you work? (and what does that look like?)
👉 What kind of family are you? Are you messy?
👉 Is Zach lazy? Do you have help with the kids?
👉 What does the Rolloff family dynamic look like today?
Thank you to everyone who submitted assumptions - this was fun and we plan on doing it again! Follow us on Instagram for your chance to submit in the future.

Unfortunately Zach's Dad contributed to that 'lazy' rumor by saying back when Zach wanted to buy the farm, he wanted a reduced price but wanted his Dad to keep doing all the work. I wish you could explain what his father meant by that because he seemed to be saying that he thought if Zach bought the farm it would all fall apart due to Zach being lazy. And then his father said something else about how when the kids were growing up Amy never stayed on them about not throwing things all over the property, and he seemed to be saying he thought Zach would be very lazy also. I'm not saying I agree at all, just telling you what his father seemed to be saying.

Kudos to Tori for defending stay at home Moms. My Mom raised five children and worked very hard doing so from the time she got up in the morning until the time she went to bed at night. God bless you Tori and all good mothers everywhere. I have great respect for hard working stay at home mothers and I feel it is one of the most important jobs in the world. God bless you!

@@betsyfeller3378 I think the person who made that comment, meant that they didn't have a job in the "traditional, 9-5" way tho. Which is true. BUT, being able to stay home, like you do, is really a blessing :) A lot of people aren't lucky enough to have that choice. Just like a friend of mine, who at 34, lost his wife to cancer, and ended up being a single parent to 3 young kids. He HAVE to work full time, yet he's still an amazing dad :)

Regarding the "laziness" comment. I think it is a direct reflection of the show. Zach was always compared to his dad's ambitious nature. Someone had to play second fiddle to Matt and as the other siblings stopped being on the show, Zach fell into that second fiddle spot. Zach is clearly providing a good life for his family and not lazy.

@@cherylbrantley4736 When you say "real job" I assume you mean a traditional 8 - 5 office job? Because Zach has worked for Indoor Goals for years and also got paid to be on the show. It isn't a traditional job but that's not a bad thing and he made enough money to support his wife and children. And he didn't ask his father to give him the farm. He made a reasonable offer to buy the house. Matt had told everyone their entire lives that he hoped the farm would be taken over by one of the children to keep it in the family. But he got greedy with the market and thought he could sell the house for millions and make a huge profit off of it. I know Matt has worked hard to make the farm what it is though and I'm not saying he should just give it all away and not have any money to support himself in his old age but that's not what they were trying to do when they offered to buy it. He really set them all up for disappointment by the empty promises he made all those years. But I think Zach and Tori have a lovely new home and I'm sure they will make many happy memories there for their family.

They acted like I was from a different planet. I get wanting to work and be someone outside of a mom, but I also get that you only get 5 years before your kids go off and spend their day away from you for most of their day. 5 years flies by! In our case, Im 7 years into this stage, and this will be the last year since my last one is starting school this fall. I can't recommend it enough! Thank you for commenting this, this is so encouraging to me and a great example of not caring what people think but choosing what is best for you family! It's sad that so many underlying choices of us as people are driven by money, or to be seen as "good enough" that it leaves people scratching their heads to (if they have the choice) to even choose to dedicate themselves to something so humbling and selfless. In a world where we grab what we want, motherhood does not have payoff of prestige or material goods. But to give as you do for your kids is love that can only enrich and multiply. I think we need to return to the "why" of life, which is to enjoy our relationships and pour into them.

Not lazy-content is a thing. My husband works hard ( we have a farm) but he doesn’t have hobbies and doesn’t care to be basic and feel the need to do what everyone else is doing. I recently said to him, “ Aren’t you worried you’ll regret it on your death bed, not having a hobby or doing projects or traveling and reading, going out of your comfort zone, etc?” He said no, I’m very content in my life, I work, I spend time with family & that’s all I need. I don’t need to do extra stuff and have things perfect, etc…🤷🏼‍♀️

I am now a grandma and have raised my kids. My youngest 2 were very sick for their first year and I had to stay home with them. I love my children to the moon and back, but that was the longest year of my life. I was not cut out to be a stay at home mom. I am so glad you and Zach are able to financially because it is better for your family. Those saying it’s not a “real” job have never attempted that “job”. Kudos to you and your family for just living your life your own way.

Zack your so right..When someones a peaceful person or just at Peace within..others can mistake that as " a person that doesnt care" about things. There is a peace that passes all understanding...like if a person is walking something hard, yet they have a peace about them...others cant understand why their not upset, angry or worried

I think people take other people too literally these days. We have become a very judgmental society. Some of these comments are harsh and are just even more assumptions being made. I see how you guys are so passionate about clarifying you both work very hard, glad you got a chance to stand up for yourselves. What I love about you guys is that you seem like very genuine, sweet individuals and that quality has passed down to your children. That is huge! Good luck moving forward!

Tori, you're totally right about mom's being at home and taking care of the family. I did the same. My husband wanted me to be a stay at home mom, I didn't want someone else raising my kids, and I didn't want to miss out on raising them cause you can never press rewind. We couldn't go on vacation or trips because we never had the money to go, but that was the trade-off for raising my kids. I wouldn't have changed it for the world, and when they got older, I worked part-time only while they were at school, and I made sure I was off before they got out of school. It worked out great,no regrets on always being there for them.😊ps just wanted to say that I understand not everyone can do this, especially if you're a single parent or your spouse's income is just not enough to make ends meet. Have a great day 😀

One good piece of advice I heard when raising my 6 children was this: It's great to praise your children to them, but you should also let your children overhear you praising them to someone else. It's amazing how powerful that is....much like letting your children overhear you praying for them when they think you don't know they are listening.

Your children are blessed, and Zach has been on LPBW since he was a kid, so he did have a job, and Tori being a teacher or even a substitute teacher is difficult. Your words about stay at home moms are correct. SAHM is a job 24/7. So don't let what others think. You're both doing a great job raising kids.

I wanted to tell you if more kids had parents like you two, the world would be a much better place to live in. I wiuld also like to tell you I found early in my kids life the best way to build them up is to let them hear you saying great things about them when they dont think you know they are listening. Did that make sense? Finally anyone that would say Zack is lazy I think is crazy. I don't know y'all personally but you can just tell hes not lazy. People are just jealous of your life and try to make you feel bad. Don't let it get to you, you are truly wonderful people.

Zach had no choice to be on reality tv , his parents made that decision for the family. You could not pay me enough money in this world to have my life on tv,people criticizing everything you do and to give up your anonymity. He and Tori should be able to profit off of 20 yrs of exposing their life to audiences. They are awesome parents and people. The trend now for many young people is the FIRE movement . So if they have been smart enough to invest their money to be able to both be at home then they deserve congratulations because most Americans are in debt and wish they could have the freedom they have. ❤❤

I am 60 years old. I have way more life experience than you do. When my children were young, I worked 10 hours a day. The guilt of not being home to spend time with your children and do quality things with them still weigh on me. Anyone who takes for granted or thinks the blessing of being able to stay at home and be a mom is harder work than someone who has to carry the burden of working outside the home and still trying to be a good parent is deceived. It is way harder to juggle a work life, and a home life and do well at both of them.

Your children will definitely need you, you and Zack a an inspiration to all parents and couples❤. Hey there house may have been messy growing up but they were happy. Mom spent more time living life with kids rather than cleaning. Hahaha I remember the laundry cleaning day at the roloff house 😂😂 in one of the early episodes. I remember Zack didn’t seem embarrassed whatsoever to have his friends over when house was messy 😂 that’s such a guy 😂

Really loving your podcast so far. I just found it! I don't have kids yet but trying to learn and absorb good parenting styles before we do. I am starting to realize that God created mothers to raise up their child at home. Additionally, he did also created us to share our gifts, which I believe comes after the season of raising up your kids. I think you are absolutely right, there is a season for both and your time with your kids is so precious! Can't wait for more and would love to hear more about your faith journey and active relationship with God too!

About noticing your kid's positive behaviors, one philosophy is "You get more of what your focus on" so if you focus on their positive behaviors and how they are helpful, the children will be more likely to repeat them. e.g. "You helped your brother pick up the toys so no one will trip on them. That was helpful!"
