As a fellow Bay Area native I had high hopes for saweetie but I can tell you this, her music isn’t really played on radio out here and that says a lot. I can see how she evolved from icy girl to my type and it doesn’t suit her. So by you saying “ghetto girl” literally hit the nail on the head. I believe that she depends on the pretty privilege for record sales and it’s not giving what it needs to give. I feel as tho Saweetie should’ve stuck to her old sound. Yes Icy Girl was a sample but it was fresh, it was cute and had everyone’s attention. Then her High Maintenance EP was amazing: lyrically, production wise,etc. Where she falls flat (now this is just constrictive criticism from a fan) is that to me she’s trying to be like other female rappers. She doesn’t have her own lane to stand on her own. Now, the new EP she released isn’t bad but it’s not giving lyrically and she’s still doing samples. Like Zach said it sounds like it was just put together. Whoever her AR is should’ve told her that she needs to go back to the drawing board! Also, if the EP was coming out there should’ve been a rollout or something to promote it because nobody knew she dropped new music! Personally I feel as though she needs to go thru Artist Development so that she can go back to her old sound but lyrically she can improve; until then she should just lay low with the music for now and work on her craft for the time being. I love Saweetie but that EP isn’t it.

Yeah when I first found out about saweetie, she gave off the pretty class girl with a tomboy side. Like Zach said, she was the pretty educated proper girl and not ghetto. And there was nothing wrong with that. Saweetie wasn't as good lyrically. But, the classy girl vibe she had going for her made up for it and she could've found her own lane. Yet, she switched to this ghetto rap and like he said, it doesn't come across as authentic compared to actual hood girl rappers like Lotto. And unfortunately, mediocre lyrics plus this ghetto girl image she switched too pretty much caused her to fall off. She faded into the crowd knowing she doesn't have anything going for her to stand against Lotto, Glorilla, etc. in comparison to if she had just stayed in her icy girl, pretty girl classy style. I know she went to artist development classes, but why can't she see she had the perfect formula for her? I do want to see her win and I honestly think, going back to icy girl classy style, plus better lyrics, and good stage performances is all she really needs.

I agree with you!! And have been feeling that same way about Saweetie for a long time. I think she would have did better with being cute, prissy like she started out as because that seems more here. But she tried to develop this hood ghetto girl persona, that as you mentioned does not come off as authentic. I think a new team behind her may help her.

It has to be light skin privilege. Omeretta is EXTREMELY talented, one of the best female rappers out now and her EP came out the same day as Saweetie's and no one talks about her. She deserves Saweetie's mainstream spot. Also, Saweetie is talented, just not as a rapper, and that's OKAY. She can take her career in so many directions I don't know why her being a rapper is the only profession being pushed.

I will always have a level of respect for saweetie for trying and doing her best. It's hard for some people to even get started. She's always seem to be sweet and humble outside of music & tried to INCLUDE girls in her "pretty bitch movement" instead of exclude them.
