Heck, a lot of people became pretty much homeless and had nowhere to go because of it. A lot of founders ideologically opposed slavery, but it was just impossible to get rid of it in a smart and efficient way Edit: LOGISTICAL is the word I was looking for :)

Oh he and Hamilton taxed people. Hamilton borrowed a bunch of money overseas to prop up the dollar and US banks after the Revolution. This was right after bank speculators bought Rev War veterans paper money pensions for 10c on the dollar. Hamilton then bought back all the money for face value....mostly from the banks. To pay back the 70million dollar foreign loan, Congress and Washington then taxed the frontier farmers that had sold off their pensions as a WHISKEY TAX, the most hated tax in Britain over the years. Oh large brewers like George were exempt from the tax Yeah...Yeah.
