@Richdragon They don't really destroy many lives dude. I'm an atheist myself, but most religions are harmless. It's such flawed logic to assume that someone living a different lifestyle due to a religion is a bad thing... Moreover, religions have done more to help others who are struggling than any other groups on Earth. Government aren't the ones feeding the poor and it certainly isn't the non-profit tax scams. At least when you donate to a church they'll tell you where the money goes. All the nonprofits move the money around so much that those struggling only see around 1% of the amount donated.

Pascal wager was pretty fairly represented here. It’s a dumb argument so obviously it sounds ridiculous when you remove the sentimental variables.
@videoms12712 жыл бұрын
Counterpoint: most religions have a "if you didn't know it's fine" and polytheistic religions don't have the "wrong god" rules. Therefore, you only have like 4 choices, and they are interlinked so much so that I'd even argue you'd go to heaven for following the "4" big Abrahamic ones.
@raindrop4308 Жыл бұрын
@@videoms1271 what if norse religion is the true religion? You literally need to die fighting
@ruukinen Жыл бұрын
@@videoms1271 But just one pair of two Abrahamic religions are already fatal contradictions. Both disallow praying to false gods and promise eternal salvation or literal hell if you follow/ignore the rules. Also you are ignoring the fact that the right religion could be one noone has made yet, with a god you haven't heard about. There are literal infinite possibilities so the odds of you choosing the right religion/sets of religions and/or god/s to follow is 0%. Thus the infinite downsides and the infinite upsides cancel out and you end up with pascals wager without the BS: Either you believe in god/s, or you don't. EV is the same in both cases. And that's being generous to religion here since I'm assuming believing in god/s is a free choice instead of the "finite" cost the original wager was about. If I add the same postulate about finite cost to the wager, now modified by the actual probabilities instead of cherry picking what Pascal thought is the "right" religion, believing is a net negative EV and not believing is neutral EV so not believing is the rational choice.

Actually my favourite quote is this: when a religious person does good, you can never be sure why they did it. It could be from their heart, but it could also be to gain favour in their faith; in other words, they only do good in search of gain for themselves. However, when an atheist does good, they don’t believe they have anything to gain from doing so, therefore you know that the only reason they have for doing it is that they truly want to do the right thing.
@KlausSchwab452 жыл бұрын
Not true, with athiests it’s doing good for others attention, not god which is worse
@neflufv63922 жыл бұрын
@@KlausSchwab45 sure bud. No proof of that. Tons of people do kind things just because it’s in their hearts, not out of their own desires. You thinking they couldn’t means that you must believe humans are inherently evil and are only good if they do it for god, and not because god made them inherently good.
@KlausSchwab452 жыл бұрын
@@neflufv6392 That isn’t what I meant, I meant to include sometimes, the reason I didn’t is because you didn’t say “christains do it for attention and gods attention sometimes” you said that without sometimes, so that’s why I didn’t include it. I don’t think humans are inherently evil at all. So again, no proof of what you said either, kind of hypocritical. I hope I explained it right
@tefky7964 Жыл бұрын
@@KlausSchwab45 Atheist can do it from being good or just for attention, but that doesn´t mean that theists are diferent, they can make it to please God, from being good or still just for attention from others.
