I frequently had to rewind to read those little subliminal asides you put in, and I don't agree about Laurence Fishburne being uncharismatic as Perry White, but that's only because he was played by Laurence Fishburne! Blame the writing, which didn't give him Perry's charm or bluster. Other than that, I agree with all the other points you made; your video was a near-perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with Zack Snyder's nihilistic interpretation of DC Universe, and why the Snyderverse should NOT be brought back, no matter how many people watched ZSJL on HBO MAX. Hopefully the upcoming Flash movie will wipe clean what didn't work about the DCEU and provide a fresh start keeping what did work. And keep those Battinson solo movies coming!

I just don't get people who compare the Donner's Superman to Snyder's. As a Superman fan I was so impressed as to how Snyder created a complete story and mythos for Superman. From that awesome portrayal of Krypton to his Superman suit with passages inbedded into his suit. A complete vocabulary to that world. If that is not world building I don't know what it is. Man of Steel is not Superman, it's a First Contact story of a man alone on a planet trying to find is way in the world a " How would the World react if a being like this exited among us" it is truly a great story. I have seen interviews where he was planning a 2nd Superman story, but then shifted as WB did not get the returns it was hoping for. So they pushed Batman into the fold, as their biggest IP. I would have loved to see the progression of Superman. From Man of Steel, to Man of Tomorrow and close out the trilogy with Superman. I guess we will never know.

The thing with this video is that while I think some notions are valid, I don't think there's necessarily a way a character (classic or new) "should" behave or act. I am actually very open to different interpretations and radical imaginings of classic characters and how they behave. Godzilla has drastically changed his behavior over 60 years, many MCU films have very different interpretations of original comic book characters and still come out half-way decent (Thor changed hugely in the MCU Infinity Saga, and his drastic changes in Ragnarok, Infinity War, and End Game made him one of the best characters of that whole series in just two years), and hell even DC has done this. There's some cool stuff happening with Injustice Superman, All-Star Superman brought new things to the table with his existential crisis, and in the Bruce Timm Justice League universe, there are many great episodes where he gets depressed over his idea that he could have had a peaceful life, and there's also the Justice Lords stuff. But the issue with Snyder is despite his bravado and appearance in his movies, he doesn't really say too much in the end. An example is that in Batman V. Superman, what is ultimately said well by the end? To me, not a whole lot aside from "The world is dark." and "Your classic heroes can do fucked up shit!" But simply showing me that isn't initially thought-provoking or meaningful or adds anything. It's more like an edgy middle-schooler going through his angsty grimdark phase and being given a pile of cash to do what he wants in the director's chair. His change and what he gives is only aesthetically deep and behind all the dark clouds, dust, rain, violence, and stuff shot at night, what ultimately does it provide to us aside from that imagery? The closest we get is the idea that Bruce accepts the fact he was wrong about his preconception that Clark was an alien outsider threat, but it doesn't come across like that when Bruce's full transition to change just took a few seconds after all this going on about his idea that Clark needs to be stopped. Again, it's like Snyder thought about the appearance and bravado first, and the actually character work second. This may be contentious with many, and yeah it's divisive, but in contrast, look at how a certain director handled Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. Even if you hated this old, exiled King Arthur energy and really wanted Luke to just kick-ass with his green lightsaber, it's hard to argue that Rian Johnson only thought about making sure to capture that long gruff beard and mustache, and putting him in that dark and long poncho. There's clearly scenes showing that Johnson not only had a reason to portray Luke like that, but he wanted to do something with it. We see with the backstory with him and Ben, followed by R2 and Rey reminding him of the good he did, Luke opening up to Leia, and the burning of the tree with Yoda that Johnson wanted to gradually get Luke out of this depressed and cynical position. And when it was time to do that, he ended up showing how Luke is conflicted by his feeling that he should teach Rey everything he knows because it will help her, and his feelings that the Jedi Order just makes shit worst with how many darkside users come from their ranks, and in the end, he becomes what people need him to be. Rian even said the reason why he didn't have Luke crush walkers with one hand or use his lightsaber to force push an entire squad of troopers down is because he wanted emotional authenticity to conclude his character's story than spectacle or power fantasy. He wanted Luke to stare down his greatest failure with confidence and acceptance and showcase the wisdom and determination that ended up surviving in him over the past four films. But Snyder has the exact opposite mentality of Johnson when making his movies. You've probably heard many say his movies always end in an explosion of CGI seizures and overreliance on action. I think it's emblematic of not only how much his stories culminate in a lack of genuine character growth, but why he can be popular with so many fanbases. Many fanbases and aspects of nerd culture revel and cherish power fantasies above all else. And it's easy to make another power fantasy to boot. And Snyder easily does appeal to many elements of edgy teenage angst that resembles a nostalgic longing for all those bland 90's comics that just thought making everything dark was enough. But in the end, Snyder's films just feel empty regardless of how much intention or flash is there. To me, the best DCEU film was precisely the OPPOSITE of a Snyder film. It was somewhat edgy yet still had a lot of heart to it, it was thorough and daring in its themes of fighting against a predatory monster who abused his position of power and finding solidarity with other women against social fear, and the action scenes didn't rely on so much CGI and were meaningful because the characters were thought out. And YES, it's Birds of Prey. And if you want to see the type of film Zack Snyder thinks he makes, just see Mad Max: Fury Road. In fact, both Birds of Prey and Mad Max: Fury Road have heavy feminist themes to them. And with how Snyder usually writes women, that can be refreshing to see after going through something like BvS.

Every character that has endured throughout the ages has a set of core characteristics that hasn't changed once it was introduced. Spider-man: Motivated by guilt. Carries the world on his shoulders. Tries hard and fails at balancing his social life and his responsibilities as Spider-Man. Superman: A man trying to fit into a world he doesn't belong to. Helping people because he knows he can make a difference. Batman: Traumatized by seeing a man kill his parents, motivated to make sure NO other child will ever have to feel that pain if he can help it. He is fundamentaly opposed to killing. The movies (Yes I included Spider-man for a reason): Peter Parker is motivated by glory. He wants to belong to the elite group of superheroes. He wants to be seen making a difference. He wants to matter. Not a bad motivation except that in the comics Peter is motivated by guilt. Being Spider-man is an obligation. It is something he has to do. There are times where he loves his 'job'. He loves helping people. But he always remembers why he's doing it. And it's not out of glory. It is a sisyphean task to redeem himself for something he believes he could never be forgiven for. Superman: Has a glorius purpose. He is meant for greatness. He is told that the world will never accept him so he needs to become a symbol they can strive towards. He is an object to be worshipped. Since he is not brought up with the hokey Kansas morals, and his father died from a tornado rather than the often depicted heart attack (A death that for all his power he couldn't prevent) he has little reason to actually CARE about the people he protects. Batman: To begin with, Snyder hides behind the excuse that 'this batman is broken'. Which is a laughable excuse. Because it means that this Batman is the weakest batman of the bunch. His character is the most flawed and he lacks any of the integrity of any past incarnation, certainly of the comic book iteration. Batman has lost people in the past - but he keeps moving on. Batman has had his morals tested - but he keeps resolute. He has a code that he won't budge from. There are entire stories centered on this very thing. And in the movies Snyder has him break his two strongest rule because? Well it's because Snyder doesn't believe in heroes. He is on record saying that if you don't think your heroes would kill or lie or steal or commit atrocities you 'live in a fucking dreamworld' So Batman got destroyed and reduced to teen angst because it is 'cool' to see Batman slaughter people. In an attempt to 'modernize' and make the characters more 'realistic' Snyder has broken them into extremely shallow versions of themselves that are unrecognizable from their comic counterpart. Like some elseworld parody written in the 90's and drawn by Rob Liefeld.

Snyder's Batman is the most comic accurate Batman on screen since Adam West. (Conroy doesn't do it for me, and I'm not counting animated versions either. He'd be #1 or second if on Crisis On Infinite Earths, they respected him. Also David Mazouz is 2nd best.)What he did with Superman could've been great. Great blueprint for a modern superman, he just doesn't understand Superman. Bad Superman. Best Batman (other than the murdering which isn't explained in-universe either and makes no sense because it also happens AFTER he saves Superman, also it's character assassination but they nailed so much of the character that I'd accept an explanation maybe). I also liked snyder's lex although he was cringe at times. 3:59 PERRY WHITE IS FANTASTIC IN SNYDER'S VERSION. Very charismatic at least in the Ultimate Edition. I never watched Man of Steel.

You don't understand Snyder. Watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZC3apebatiqp7s People's problem with Zack Snyder is that he makes big changes in characters. This is also the reason why many people hate or dislike Snyder's versions of Superman and Batfleck. But the fact is: Those people don't understand any of this. Snyder's characters are flawed, then they are beautifully redeemed after some time through brilliant character development and become the versions we have known and loved. Actually, Snyder took realistic take on characters like Superman and an old Batman. So, what's so wrong, huh? *Superman's character arc in MoS and BvS is the ''origin story of true nature of Clark Kent & Superman'' (we know from comics), in a realistic way. He was a ''becoming Clark/Superman'' in a world (a real world) which is not a dream/fantasy world.* Now we'll see a true Superman/Clark in further films when Henry and SnyderVerse will come back. *Batfleck's arc about his redemption depicts his Rebirth (after Superman's sacrifice) as 'the true Batman he once used to be'.* Hence, we saw an almost-true Batman in ZS'sJL. But still, here are many people & haters who say: _Snyder doesn't understand comic-book characters._ *Batman v Superman [Ultimate Edition] is MUCH deeper and greater than even its fans think it is. A modern masterpiece. But still, this film has got many haters.* Someone asked Zack Snyder, in a movie panel, about why his characters are so different, why are they so flawed? Snyder said (making a reference to Watchmen), “Once you’ve lost your virginity to this f*cking movie and then you come and say to me something about like ‘my superhero wouldn’t do that.’ I’m like ‘Are you serious?’ I’m like down the f**king road on that. It’s a cool point of view to be like ‘my heroes are still innocent. My heroes didn’t f**king lie to America. My heroes didn’t embezzle money from their corporations. My heroes didn’t commit any atrocities.’ That’s cool. *But you’re living in a f*cking dream world.* ” If still you all hate him for making REALISTIC superheroes then yeah, you all are just living a fantasy.

Because its not a religious story. You cant make him not an inspiring good dude thats too good for this world but why he is so impactful (while struggling with his very human problems, like his love life, and shouldering himself with way too much responsibility on himself thats why he is struggling) He isnt superman because he is a human with superpowers , But because he is that good of a person holding that responsibility, and whose superpowers are just an extension. Like reasons why ex hates him is literally that, he doesnt thing a good person like him with power could exist in the first place, whre also thats his character as that good and patient of a person lex hates, nothis powers. thats an extra. And the people who despise him would do anything in their power to paint the image of him dark since even nukes do no harm on him. They would go afters his family and friends and they would sucseed. To go save some kitties after such harrasment is a godly thing to do. You know why? Because men do breake and gods do not. Superman is one of my favorite characters, and thats include all the takes. Nothing against cavill, he can act hopeful but grumpy people that are basically superheroe like in the witcher. Snyder thou, that said cavill wasnt guiven the material to be supes.

@@marocat4749 where are you getting that from? And, Superman isn't always hopeful. He's a man like everyone else (except he's Kryptonian), that's always been the point. Lastly, he wasn't dark in BvS, the world around him was. Not sure where the issue is, but again, Cavill's Superman is better than Reeve's. I like an actual character more than a one dimensional caricature.

Hahahaha. WRONG. Man of Steel Superman is NOT supposed to be superman. That's why the movie is awesome. Same as the Batman. Even better. Also, BvS is underrated as hell. Every problem that it has is solved in the Ultimate Edition. Have a good day. #RestoreTheSnyderverse.
