Wrong. It's not Zack's take on the characters. Zack embraced these characters' personalities right from the comics. Zack has made the most comic booky films of all time without question. I for one don't like the Cristopher Reeves Superman because it's redundant watching fictional action as Superman flying around saving everybody from their fate which just happens to be impossible. There's no real consequence to that version of superman.

I went in with a negative mindset thinking it was gonna be crap and it was just mildly amusing which made me happy. I don't know where the notion of "DC is deep and dark" comes from. In this day and age, it’s impossible for anyone to come in and watch a movie without bias. It’s human nature to be biased. Hence the differences of opinion. Expecting someone not have some degree of bias is frankly stupid and unreasonable. Much like how people who did not like Man of Steel and Batman V Superman will come into this with suspicion, Snyder fanatics will go into this movie expecting to love it. It goes both ways. The mark of a good movie is when it succeeds in overriding any bias its detractors had and winning them over. And I still have no reason to believe this movie will win over anyone who did not like Man of Steel or Batman V Superman, which is a large amount of DC fans and most critics. The best thing I can predict about this film is that it will end the Snyder trilogy they way he would have wanted it, still controversial and critically maligned but at least more consistent than the 180 the first Justice League film offered.

Regardless of the quality of any single one of his movies (Watchmen, Sucker Punch and Batman v. Superman), there isn't a single director's cut that isn't notably better than their theatrical releases. The problem is mostly with WB when they micromanage their directors.

I disagree. I believe at least fans want to see the characters they grew up watching represented in a way that is faithful to the source. It also confuses me when people complain that Snyder's version of Batman and Superman are not "accurate to the character". Comic books are filled with different versions of the same character with different storylines, and the multiverse is a thing in both Marvel and DC. Films are also a different animal entirely, so why would you want a character to be portrayed in the same, dull way instead of updating them to fit another environment or situation? That's what Snyder's films do for me, give me something to think about and I hope The Batman by Matt Reeves does the same when it comes out.

Seeing this leaves me feeling...so-so about Zack's idea for a King Arthur movie. On the one hand, I loved some of his work; 300 being my top favorite. On the OTHER hand, he tends to put spectacle over substance (i.e. he puts more emphasis on effects than acting performances.) Which leaves me to wonder what ZACK'S idea of a great King Arthur movie will look and feel like. For all I know, it'll turn out as bad as Guy Richie's "artistic" take on Arthurian Lore

I used to be in the group of people that hated these movies because they weren’t the “proper” interpretations of these characters. But I saw an interesting video essay that gave me a different perspective on it: Batman and Superman aren’t the characters WE know them to be in the first two movies, because their ultimate arcs throughout the films is BECOMING those characters. Now, if Justice League doesn’t stick the landing on that, then yea I’ll probably go back to criticizing it. But let’s see how it ends up

It mostly focuses on the most common criticisms of the character portrayals and writing. It’s done in a professional way, and not just “you’re dumb if you don’t like this”

12:05 - 12:40 I'm shocked at how much I disagree with this sentiment. I found these Superman and Batman to be VERY human and relatable, in no small part because of their inner struggles, their baggage, and their flaws all being treated seriously. By contrast, I find MCU characters comparable to mascots, or stand-up comedians, constantly smiling and joking and making one-liners even when the situation doesn't call for it, meant to entertain but exagerated and unrelatable. I think it's a matter of comfort vs discomfort. The former is not always good and the later is not always bad, especially when it comes to stories. ZS likes to use discomfort in his stories while the MCU has perfected a formula to maximize comfort.

At this point, just to be cautious you might lower your expectations because the fans and hype have really set up a very high bar for this to be not just good, but ungodly perfect. It has to be really really REALLY good (like surpass Nolan's Dark Knight) or just plain terrible to be rewarding, cause just being "okay" is going to be the biggest letdown and overhyped film event ever. Either way, I'm more excited for DTs review where shit is about to go down and probably more exciting than the actual film.

Chris was spot on about Zach Snyder's view of super heroes, from an aesthetic aspect I like him but writing, I'm not a fan. he's always been more focused on giving you something more over-the-top & right out of the comics but hardly gives it any weight or relatability which is why im not that upset he is not doing anymore dc movies, i can do without his style but then again i can't say i fully trust WB going forward

Honestly with the length complaint vs watching 4 hours of television, think of it this way. Attack on titan condensed 3 seasons into a short 2 hour movie. That's about 60 episodes, 22 minutes each into 2 hours of the exhilarating plot. Ups and downs, back to back, layered plot. One through-line of a story for 4 hours does not equate to 12 episodes of a television show. It's just more entertaining usually to enjoy a short burst. That said, that's not a rule, and JL Snyder cut was needed, to give the movie more time to breathe vs the original. PS. You can do a 2 hour movie with depth and character introductions, just look at the cartoons or movies of cartoons in dc, sadly the movies don't just copy their scripts ahem, suicide squad.

And I watched this after working overnight for 12 hours so some of it is a blur but man, what a difference a good edit an extra hour and fifty minutes make. If WB is smart, they'll give Zack Snyder the keys to the car back. I shit you not. Is it perfect? No. Is it a damn good improvement over the first Justice League? HELL YES.

The problem I have with this film is that it’s being sold on a false narrative that this is the film Snyder was trying to make, the one he was fighting for, before tragedy pulled him away and the evil studio put in the now-controversial Joss Whedon who ruined it, and now we’re getting exactly what we would have gotten, which is a lie considering so many elements and ideas from later DCEU films and the reality that Zack is learning from what hasn’t worked and gets to course correct, all the while WB profits all this like they were never in the wrong to begin with. It’s the meta-narrative outside the film I cannot stand, and on top of that, having rewatched all of Snyder’s previous entries, I’m willing to bet it’s an extension of the strengths AND weaknesses of what he’s done before.

My interest in this film is purely academic. It's unprecedented that a film maker is invited back to remake/complete their "big budget studio blockbuster" after it was already reshot, recut, and released worldwide. That said, I haven't been a fan of any of Zack Snyder's films and the specific ideological lens he consistently insists on forcing them through. And yes, I've seen all his films, and I gave them all a chance upon first viewing.
