STOP running like damsels. STOP. TURN AROUND. link arms, get arms, drive Dumb and Dumber out of the Kremlin and start a Democratic country. We did in America. The French did. English did. The Maidan did and Ukraine is doing it. Egypt did it. Any more questions?

Zack is one of the few Russian dissidents and bloggers in English that I have some respect. At least he continues to talk about Ukraine and Russia, unlike most other Russian bloggers that are nowadays acting as if nothing really bad is happening and as if lots of people aren't dying every single day.
@JustARandomFio

Zack has been my absolute favorite since day one. He's not only talking but has actively supported Ukraine (and Ukrainians) and openly spoken out against the war from the start of this senseless nightmare. You are right about others, plenty of them just continuing their daily supermarket tour routine or complaining that their credit cards don't work anymore. If you don't know him already, I can highly recommend Konstantin from Insight Russia, too. In the beginning, I was a bit skeptical about him, but the more time passed, the more openly and clearly he spoke out against Putin and the war. Besides actively supporting Ukraine and Ukrainians and bringing people together.

@@JustARandomFio I know about Konstantin as well. In the begining I though he was just like other Russian bloggers, acting as grifters, but it turned out he actually cared about Ukraine, Ukrainians and regular Russians in reality. The only Russian bloggers in English that I see as respectful are Konstantin, Zack and Nastya Zik (unfortunatelly the last one stopped making videos in English almost a year ago). PS: Ah, and yes, I was forgetting about "The Russian Dude" as well. In the begining I had the same thought as I did for Konstantin but it turns out he also cares in actuality.

@Diogo & Marisa - Of course, The Russian Dude. I didn't mention him because he was already in Canada and hadn't to escape. Let's also not forget Daniil from 1420. He has become very brave with his interviews and I told him quite a few times not to exaggerate and be careful, since he's apparently back in Moscow. He's a good person, too. @Diogo: Never doubted in the Russian Dude. Konstantin I followed from the beginning when he still was in Russia and urged us to be careful in the comments, or turned them even off for safety. There were a few times in the beginning when I thought, he would take advantage of the situation or wouldn't be sincere, but I was proven wrong. He has done so much since he is in safety, and he's such a strong Ukraine supporter and a strong voice against the Kremlin. Definitely a good man with his heart in the right place. I hope, he also makes it to the US someday (he lived already in the States before, for some years), where he can be truly safe. Central Asia is too dangerous, you never know what may happen.

@@JustARandomFioDaniil from 1420 is also a good and very corageous guy who is still in Russia. His interviews inside Russia are extremely important and will surely be used in the future in History lessons. Dear Jonathan, this interview is among the most extraordinary. I consider it such by virtue of Zach's young age, of which I had seen some initial videos in his Georgian period. If that's strength, well ... I'd hate to know your idea of weakness. Russia's "strength" doesn't seem to be doing much for it in Ukraine. They chose the Taliban. That was their decision. Closest it gets to a democratic election in a place as backward as Afghanistan. In any event, the Americans fared better than did the Soviets, who lost several times more soldiers, killed many, many more people, failed, and fell apart entirely shortly thereafter. Looking at what's happening right now in the U.S. and E.U. with failing to deliver aid to Ukraine just makes me sick to my stomach. I'm an American, and for decades my countrymen have prided ourselves on defending the democracies of the world. We're supposed to be the good guys, right? Nope, just a bunch of whingeing cowards. When I think about it, it's a combination of three factors that really make this situation so awful. 1. The war in Ukraine is the most morally black and white war since WW2. You've got a power-mad dictator invading a sovereign Democratic neighbor for absolutely no justifiable reason whatsoever aside from the lust for power and control. Regardless of what Putin says, this had nothing to do with NATO expansion, or de-nazification, or any of the other made up nonsense he and his cronies are putting out. He turned his own country into a repressive police state and sent millions of it's young men into a meat grinder many of them wouldn't survive, partially because they were sent in with no god damn plan or training or equipment. On top of that, they are using absolutely brutal tactics against civilians. Rape, kidnapping, torture; these aren't occasional exceptions but their actual military policy. This is a simple story: Ukrainians Good, Putin Bad, the end. 2. We had already PROMISED to defend Ukraine. In the Budapest memorandum we made clear that in exchange for Ukraine's Soviet nuclear stocks we would protect their territorial integrity. We aren't just morally but also legally obliged to help them. 3. It would be SO GOD DAMN EASY! This is what really drives me insane. "We can't afford to give money to Ukraine" "Russia is too strong" "We're tired of the fighting" are you freaking kidding me?! We are literally handing Ukraine a fraction of a fraction of our scraps. Outdated hardware that was going to be decommissioned anyway, and even then far from all of it. What's the 60 billion we gave to Ukraine when we spend more than that in a month with our military not even active? Compared to the size and scale of the US war machine what Ukraine requires is chump change. We gave them 30 Abrams tanks, we have more than 6000 more in storage. We could give them ten times what we have and still not even begin to stress the system. All the money we spent during the cold war to fight the Russians, now the Ukrainians are fighting them for us, giving their own blood and sweat to hold the line for Democracy. What right do we have to complain about being tired? And in any case, Russia is a paper tiger. Like all bullies Putin picks on the little guy. In this case the little guy turned out to be one tough SOB and is putting up one hell of a fight, but we all knew Ukraine was the underdog. That doesn't mean Russia is actually strong, though. Ukraine isn't the US. Russia wouldn't pose any threat AT ALL to the U.S. militarily aside from their nuclear arsenal, assuming it hasn't fallen apart from neglect, and even Putin isn't dumb enough to think he could survive going down that road. There's a reason he hasn't done it yet despite all the threats. Helping Ukraine is something we not only SHOULD do, we MUST do it, and it would be so damn easy. All it would take is just a little bit of determination and moral backbone from a handful of politicians, but no such luck. Putin's operation to put Donald Trump into the White House will go down in history as the greatest intelligence operation of all time. It's truly stunning: that which Putin could NEVER have accomplished militarily (stopping the U.S. and the rest of the western world) he managed to accomplish with some god damn trolls on Facebook amd Twitter. Watching all this happen before my very eyes is beyond belief.

It's not cowardice at all. It's worse than that. The GOP has been compromised. They're openly pro-Russia. Hell, they won't even speak clearly in favor of the democratic process anymore. That's the extent to which their so-called principles have degraded. These people may not be traitors according to the letter of the law, but their actions are actively sabotaging US interests and jeopardizing the national security of the USA and allied countries worldwide. And I wager that even if Biden caved 100% to their border security demands, they'd move the goalpost further. Because it's not actually about border security. They are active supporters of Russian imperialism.

Some people asked why Russia is still connected to the internet. Here's an answer: the connection allows the hybrid war's informational arm to reach out to strike at Western government's political genome. I think that grandparents have a difficult time transmitting their life experience of brutal authoritarian regimes to their grandchildren. Due to wars and the 1918 flu pandemic, over 90% of my Dad's brothers and sisters were killed. There's probably a cycle of 80 years or so when we forget the old painful lessons and have to suffer going through the "time loop" again, as 40 years is about the upper limit for a generation to pass away. God had the Israelites wander in Sinai for 40 years so that all those who didn't have faith should perish, never entering the Promised Land, which had to be conquered and sanctified with blood.

When I first went to Central Europe, Poland and then Ukraine in May of 2022 for three weeks or so, I met a Russian volunteer who was appointed as one of the coordinators at the Tesco Refugee Center in Przemysl during a transitional period for the center. He helped me so I could come into the center as a volunteer. I had planned to meet with him in the evening at 9:00 p.m. later that day, because it was 4:00 a.m. when I arrived at the center, having driven all night from Krakow (rental car). He was going to hopefully give me a tour of this very large center where primarily Ukrainian women and children arrived and then usually left within 48 hours on the trains from the railway at Przemysl. I showed up at 9:00 but he wasn't there. I spoke to another coordinator who was Ukrainian and for whatever reason, Shasha wasn't planning to be at the center that evening for the 12 hours shift. He told me a couple of times that he was Russian and I understood what he was saying about his identity as Russian. Obviously, he was one Russian, a twenty five year old, who immediately knew what the terrible consequences were that Russia was causing. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the tour by this Russian refugee volunteer-coordinator. It would have been great to have spoken to him about his experiences up until this time. The Ukrainian showed me around. I was on my way to Ukraine. But I did eventually spend a few hundred dollars on children and women underwear, and soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and other hygienic products. Upon my return, I wrote five short stories about my experiences that focused largely on the refugees in Krakow and Przemysl. One story was about a Canadian I met in Kyiv who was on his way to fight in a foreigner Ukrainian Unit. Thank you Zack the Russian.

Zack's closing message asking we Americans to contact our politicians demanding that they support freedom and the Ukrainians who are fighting for it in their country and all around the world is something all good Americans must do. We have people right here in America that are eager to destroy freedom and they do it by claiming to "save money" or solve other problems that are more critical to the United States. Nothing is more critical to the United States than supporting Ukraine's war against Putin's Russian imperialism. Our future as Americans depends on victory for democracy in Ukraine. I found a 2022 youtube of Zach talking about the fact that many western companies (such as Coca-Cola Belgium) still supply cola to Russia after many months of the Russian invasion. Really important channel even as an exile.

Zack is an awesome guest! Thank you both for providing valuable insights into Russia. Ver interesting about China teaching Russia on how to track people. I’ll be repeating that for sure. Rick, I’m sorry about your country but very glad you got out in time.

I used to consider Russians as my brothers and sisters. Putin destroyed that. I pray for the future of this world. I know a guy in Vladivostock who says he'd rather be dead than stay there but he doesn't have the money to escape and he's very depressed. He's in his mid 30s and if I was employed I'd think of trying to fund a ticket for him to come and live on my property in Southern California. I'm disabled and really could use his help and in return give him shelter.

Your guest has an interesting story. I'm impressed by Russians who tells the world the truth about what Putin is really about. It's a shame that he's in the minority. I would hope that there's an audience in Russia that his KZbin channel reaches. I would also hope that the population in Russia can overthrow the government of Putin.

WE, the remaining decent part of the world, could see future with so much more confidence would we compare us in his age with him, with those that have been in the cues out of Kyiv, with those that had these "Kids" in ruZZian signs at there windscreens and still got ambushed, with those that experienced these missiles and explosions, with those that got forced into the trenches and shot into their backs when retreating, with those, that have to hold them back with their lifes. And this applies to ALL of the still decent part of the world because without ALL it would as well a collapse for ALL. There circulated this figure around last week's EU summit, that these EUR 50bn for 5 years now blocked by Orban would be EUR 25 per EU taxpayer. Or one diner at an Italian restaurant. To be double checked of course. The question to ALL - so including US: Is preventing Zack's story for recent and future generations not worth maybe three such diners - EVERY year??? Imagine what the return of this investment would be. How beautiful the world could be. How the Zack's of the world one day could build back bridges into that resort of evil outliers? What a beautiful and talented people we would rescue and embrace? And how we could return to focus on keeping our planet livable.
