Tyler has talked about how his car radio was stolen in college and it mentally gutted him. Afterwards he dropped out of college and began to focus on his music. I've always loved the lyrics and sound of this song. There is so much pain and then the music is so upbeat. I also love Where's Waldo in the audience.

Even the crowd work that they do at their shows in symbolic! Notice how Tyler started from the middle of the crowd and then "backwards" crowd surfs to the stage. Obviously not the "traditional" way to do it and just another way to break the "norms", doing it his way and making his own "Lane". This one has a double meaning... 1. His fans lift him up (literally and figuratively) and carry him, bringing him back to the stage where he belongs. They ground him and give him purpose. 2. He wants to just blend in with the crowd and enjoy the show WITH them, as one of them but he can't because he IS the entertainment, the performer and the crowd pushes him back to his place (to the stage), where he belongs. The damand to put on a show from the many fans who love him and always want more but yet leaves him feeling alone and isolated but also drained, not knowing how much more he has to give... It's the constant battle to keep the balance between writing and performing, doing what he loves and knowing he's helping others with his music but not over do it. The fans have the power to keep him going, even when he doesn't think he has it in him but also that constant demand for more never end and he needs to remember to take a break and relax and have fun.

This was my first song that started me on my TOP journey. It is just brilliant! Music has always been my escape, so this song spoke to me. I also love the video, and felt the fans were putting their music (car radio) back on stage to perform. Happy 4th of July!

I love how they use their songs to encourage people to think and not try to avoid your thoughts and problems but confront and fight against them and question the things other people and even your own brain tells you, not just blindly believing.

I have heard in other comments that his car radio was actually stolen and was the inspiration for this song 😂 I am almost never positive what the song is about to Tyler and Josh but I find something I can relate to most of the time.

He did go to Ohio State for a couple years (although not sure what he studied) and that's actually where his Car Radio was stolen - the song isn't about that though - it's about what happens when the distractions in our lives are taken away - as you picked up on He does a very good job of writing about real thoughts and feelings people have that are hard to talk about The video goes along with that idea as well - once the music kicks in and he puts the mask on you forget he's still the same nervous guy from the beginning - that's why his hair is back at the end - bc he's still that same guy when the mask comes off I'd recommend doing the official video for Ode to Sleep

So glad you watched this. It's one of my favorite all-time favorites. Deep. Conveys emotion. Open to interpretation. Attractive musically. As common with TØP, love the juxtaposition of dark or meaningful thoughts with beats you bop to. For a long time I heard their songs, but didn't really listen. P.S. Laugh all you want at the faceplate radio, but it was a step up from the pull-out radio you were supposed to carry around, but usually just tucked under the seat. 😉

What’s up Zack!! Another great job, hope u liked the song, it’s a masterpiece to me and live it’s incredible. Off the Vessel album, along with Trees, Migraine and other gems which deals with mostly mental illness and such as u can see. I would next recommend Ode To Sleep(might have blocking issues), then Holding onto you, then Guns for hands. Always a great day when one of your reactions pops up.. have a great holiday bud

This song is still a highlight of their live shows. He is a deep thinker and wants to write music that makes people think. You are right, even though he actually did have his car stolen when he was at Ohio State, he is also using it as a metaphor. Since he struggled with severe depression, being trapped alone with his thoughts was a dangerous place for him to be. The line “I could pull the steering wheel” references suicidal thoughts. But then he encourages people to think and to be fully alive. The music and their live shows are his escape, but at the end, he’s alone again with his thoughts. Cycles are a recurring theme in their music and videos, especially when dealing with mental health issues. It’s hard to break the cycle of depression and anxiety. I would recommend Holding Onto You live from Fox Theater, Fairly Local, Ode to Sleep, and Heavydirtysoul

TOP is my favorite group! ❤️They are truly amazing. When my daughter introduced me to them I was shocked that someone could put into words what I have felt for years. When you experience this song live, it's incredible!

Tyler can take the most common, even mundane, thing and turn it into a brilliant metaphor for life struggles! And that he sets it to great music to draw the listener in is pure genius!

Great reaction! Love seeing you get into TOP. My fave part of this one is where the beat drops and the fans lift Tyler up and carry him back to the stage. We can all be alone, lost in our own thoughts, even in the midst of a crowd. Silent. But then when this music and the Clique come together, we're able to hold others up and help them get back to life. For Tyler that's the music and the fans and Josh. So poetic. This song gives me chills every time. And experiencing it live brings me to tears every time. Also, there's video from years ago of a young fan actually giving Tyler a car radio while he was on stage. And if u stay w TOP reactions, you'll find out the fate of the car radio down the road... 😉 |-/ 💛❤

❤ TOP! Totally different from just writing music! Songs/videos can be interpreted from personal perspective! PS he says radio was stolen, and lyrics came from personal experience!

Tyler/Josh and their fans have a symbiotic relationship. We need them and they need us. It’s a pretty beautiful thing if you reflect on it. Thousands? Millions? Just me? Are still here and healthy because of this music. Pretty cool.
