@@kalaiselvan3486 They are *very* smart, and they learn fast. I've got two, both adopted as adults, and I had no problem training them. But yes, they're quite stubborn; sometimes they correctly understand what you are asking them to do and simply they do not, like "I'm not in the mood" :-D But they're great in many aspects like loyalty and love giving.

It's so true that it takes time. I've had my dog ten months and she's learned her recall, sit, beg, stay, leave, touch (where she touches my hand and she knows the difference between left and right touch) and I'm currently trying to teach her paw. It just takes time and a lot of dedication. I constantly still ask her for old commands to reinforce them and I often ask for a recall, sit and beg all in one go to test her and make her hold them each for a time as well. Clicker training and marker word training are what I always recommend to people when they say "your dogs so well trained how did you do it?" I had her for four months until I started marker training and since then she has come in leaps and bounds.

I love stubborn dogs and sensitive dogs cause they challenge me. I took in a senior pekingese last year and he had no positive reinforcement experience. I put in the work and today I am extremely grateful because the trust I gained with positive reinforcement is priceless now after he went blind. He comes when I call with voice and clapping to hear what I want and where I am. He trusts that I will guide him safely, and he trusts me to treat his eyes, clip his nails and much else. Luckily he is very motivated by bellyrubs and other physical affection but treats will always be the strongest reinforcer! I always compare stubborn dogs as a CEO of a company. He can be hired like anyone else but he needs a higher salary to do the job. ;)

And when you are ready for the next love of your life you will find a whole new way of feeling love! They each find their unique chamber in our hearts and every single chamber will always be sacred. The pain of loss will come in waves but it just reminds you of everything he taught you, all you did together and how wonderful life is to put him in YOUR life out of all people so that you got to love that specific angel. You will feel love and joy again, when you are ready. ♡ New angels will move in to your heart and develop who you are. We were touched by angels. :)

Try to make a list of things that your dog likes. Some dogs are motivated by treats, toys, "good boy", petting, scratches, and/or letting them do what they want to. Let me explain! Short dogs love to sniff the ground. In that case u would tell them to sit and then say "ok!" and let them sniff the ground for a few seconds.

My husband and I sat down and worked out the costs, how much time we would have etc etc... We would have loved a Bernese Mountain Dog. We have both wanted one for so long. But after a lot of research we both realized it just wasn't the right thing to do at this moment in time.. So we decided to go for a Labrador instead. So many people rush into this and cause dogs and cats a lot of distress when things don't turn out how they expected. PLEASE!!!! look at all the pros and cons before committing to buying any animal.

Schnauzers aren't that bad actually :) They hate repetition and gets bored fast so practice short sessions and with fun and variation. I introduce the new "game" a few tries, asks for something she knows, plays, teach the new "game" and end the session. If you avoid boredom and find the right motivator they learn super fast! Some works better for toys than treats but my fav treat with my mini schnauzer is grain free catfood. Tiny pibbles so they don't chew forever, they love the flavor and you can jackpot as little or richly as you wish. :) It also due to the size isn't a high risk for obesity as some treats can be for some dogs. :)

This is helpful and I have watched it at least 3 times. I have had my puppy for 12 weeks and I thought she was a level 2, but turns out she is level 1 in her energy. Kinda hard to train without treats! This just reminded me to keep treats in my pocket, switch up the rewards a little, and she is much more consistent with peanut butter! Thanks, Zak, for another great video!

You have a teenager, the brain is growing like crazy and impulsitivity is high so just keep practicing and be patient! At age 2 ish the thinking part of the brain catches up to the emotional part of the brain and they gain the ability of self control, but brain isn't fully grown to about age 3. You can hire a trainer for sure but your dog just needs time. :) Remind remind remind, practice, practice, practice!

Go easy on him right now as he's an adolescent dog and just a walking hormone. If he's intact, get him neutered. Also be aware some dogs (especially GSDs) go through a fear period around nine months and get freaked out by stuff he'd normally cope with. Just ride it out and stick at consistent training and keep it fun. Some behaviors come easy, some need lots of work (like recalls). Classes would be a good idea too. Great for building your confidence. Don't be scared to sack classes off and go somewhere else if you don't agree with their methods. Skills dogs learn at this age tend to stick for life, so get focus on the really important stuff. Good luck !

Tesla Nick Neutering dog is not as good as has been widely said. I would not recommend neutering all around without other considerations, but do some research on the negative effects on neutering dogs. Any case will be different. Sometimes neutering a dog is worse for his behaviour and health.
@TeslaNick2

Sunny the mutt The risk factors are extremely low and in particular GSDs who are neutered are less prone to certain diseases. I would advise getting some professional advice from a qualified vet for anyone with doubts.

Hey I have got a question my dog is 4 month old and he runs over street I wanted to call him back but he didn't come and I don't know what I can do ?
@TeslaNick2
@TeslaNick2 8 жыл бұрын
A solid recall is for me the single most important behavior to train and takes a lot of very consistent work. Start at home and do it every day. Only use your cue if you are 100% certain your dog will recall. If you cue and the dog fails, you're polluting your cue. Once he's recalling fluidly in the house, move it to your yard. I make the reward a big event that lasts 10-30 seconds, sometimes with play sometimes with food, depending on your dog's motivation. If you're working in an environment that's distracting, use a long line so that you can enforce the recall. I start with restrained recalls (needs two handlers) outside and work up from there. Good recall is a skill and takes time but can be a life saver once reliable. I can call my dogs off of any distraction after 6 months of working hard on it. I can also give them a 'call away' whereby they recall mid flight when running towards a distraction. They simply peel off and circle back to me. I'm lucky with one of my dogs as he's so obsessed with his ball, he'll come back from ANY distraction for his ball and I can play tug with him whilst several other dogs are around, even sniffing him and he stays focused on me and he's normally very reactive. My other dogs all prefer food rewards. I also use pressure when needed to proof the recalls, so strictly speaking, I don't train 'all positive'. But that's just my method - I train all positive until the dogs know the drill and then apply pressure if they refuse to comply. All my dogs are trained to know how to turn off pressure, else pressure is unfair and is off no help. The premack technique is also useful for early recalls with distractions. It's well worth the effort and I often 'show off' to other dog owners when out on walks as it's very impressive to have that level of control. People often see it and then ask me how I managed to achieve it. Most are not prepared to put the time in though, once I tell them what's involved. At 4 months, I would not be expecting a reliable recall and recommend a long line for walks as they puppy will be able to explore, but not get away from you. Restrained recalls are also great at this early stage. If you have one nearby, a private hire of a secure area is a great idea to practice off-leash recalls and alleviates the stress of worrying if puppy wanders off. Take a friend to help and do restrained recalls back and forth. Do it 10 - 15 times. Take a break, have a play and do it again. ALWAYS reward for coming back and if you can't reward, don't recall. Good luck and let us know how you get on and if I can help more.

When I give my dog a treat, it will work for about a week, then he decides he doesn't like that particular treat. So I change it and we go through this about once a week. My biggest issue is he very rarely comes when he's called treat or no treat. He looks at me and he hears me and if he's comfortable where he is he will just look at you.

Thank you for saying that the use of treats might take a while to make the training stick. My dog is smart and will do just about anything if I have a treat in my hand. I was getting frustrated that she would not do the same thing if I had no treat and would basically ignore me. But I have only begun to train and I think I was expecting too much.

We could never train our youngest dog when he was a pup simply because mom got very ill. Because of that he is very stubborn, but he does surprisingly well in more busy environments. Now he is 10 years old, and even if he lacks etiquette at times he is the cuddliest dog I've ever known. Sometimes he walks up to me and whimpers until I put my arms around him firmly and he just closes his eyes and lean into me. Simply precious ^_^ EDIT: By firmly I mean steady and reassuring, not a chokehold or anything like that. Just FYI to the more sensitive folks out there

I have a Doberman she's 2 years old. When we first got her we trained her the basics and walked her around a lot, got her to socialize with other dogs, and people etc. But around that 8 month mark she started to rebel and my mom didn't really try to train her much of the obedience or focus training on her except re-teaching the basic "sit, stay, down" and even then would only listen sometimes. Also she doesn't really take her to the park anymore and only walks her occasionally, which I find pretty sad since Dobey's tend to be very needy. She's is about 2 pounds overweight, she's always hungry but I think that has more to do with the fact she doesn't get as much attention or receiving as much activity as she used to. So I plan on taking her on long walks either in the morning or after work and try to train her again to get her going more to shed off some fat, gain muscle, and to mainly start listening again. Do you have any tips on previously trained adult dogs that are stubborn?
