G12T-75 wins it for me, as I expected. But really, the Seventy80 really took me by surprise, really nice speaker. Maybe that's the real winner, I didn't expect it to sound so good.

I wouldn't say they suck, they're a different flavor... Think of it like some people like ketchup on hotdogs, some like mustard, some like both To my ear, the best out of these is the greenback, but I like the midrange bark than the crispy high end. To each their own my dudes ❤️

What an exceptional demo. Interesting how the Les Paul pickups and circuitry made the Greenback sound much more hi-fi than the Strat did (on the clean tones.) That T-75 is really distinctive, maybe not everyone's cup of tea but it really has personality. Again, such a top-rate demonstration, thank you for putting it together!

After all these years listening to others opinions, this video made it perfectly clear. GB`s are not so great, sound narrow as hell as does the 30`s. The 150`s are too dirty and the 70/80 is my second pick. I have a 16 x 75`s....they are staying in MY cabs !! Thank you for this video, saved me a lot of money on replacing perfectly good speakers.

This is a great video and answers a very difficult question very well. Great playing with the only guitars that matter using riffs that tell and sell the story perfectly well. I have a full stack JCM800 loaded with G12T75s and reckon it's the best rock sound going. I also have a Fender 2x12 cab with vintage 30s and it sounds harsh with any head I use, including my Fender Supersonic 22 (which happens to sound divine through the Marshall Quad). I'm building a 1x12 cab for a Hughes and Kettener Tubemeister 18 using a G12T75 (purchased this afternoon on eBay). Was considering greenbacks and Seventy 80's, but this video proves the G12T75 is not only my personal choice, but the clear winner in the comments. Awesome job settling a subtle question that matters only to those who bother to ask it.

IMO this video confirms 3 things: 1 - G12T75 is the best celestion speaker. BY FAR. Períod. 2 - V30 is a lame speaker. Sucked mids. Squashed tone. It does not deserve the hype. 3 - Seventy 80 is a good speaker indeed. Great overall tone. It does not deserve the hate.

I think for recording you want a relatively balanced speaker with a strong but tight fundamental and a little bit of warmth. You also need it to be capable of maintaining its identity from low to high power. You can then EQ that however you see fit. For this reason "classic" speakers like the greenback and vintage 30 that have very strong "identities", particularly clean and overdriven, are great tools but there's a reason they aren't "stock" in many manufacturers cabs.

THEY are in the DSL range and they those amps already have higher gain and pre amp distortion so that and the fact people don't know how to dial in the tone !? I don't know there also the fact that all the fizz goes away once you turn the volume up past 2-3 And the power tubes kick some bass and thunk into the speaker the fizz on high gain goes away.

I had a used Traynor 212 designed for them. It sounded good, but it was a little too bassie for my liking. Got some EVH speakers. Sounded much better once they opened up after breakin. If people want to switch their tone up, get different speakers and cabinets. The 70/80s sounded much better in an open back 112 I made. Small dimensions took out some of the woofieness. Also don't overlook the lesser of the big guys. Jensen and Emi put out some great speakers. I didn't like the GWS speakers I tried. None of them had a character I liked. Too sterile. Too fizzy . Too bassie. Jensen jet falcon gave me one of the best tones. And it was a 10 inch. Less lows than some 12s but it really cuts through in the mix. The highs are chimey but not too bright.

The V Type and GT-75 may make a better pair because their sensitivity ratings are closer than a V30 and a GT75. I find the V30 dominates that pairing. I find the V Type pairs up nicely with other Celestion speakers. Don’t know about the high volume sound, but great at moderate levels.

Greenback is the best ;)

Swapped my 70/80 with G12H-100 in my 112 home cab just looking for something new, but brought the 70/80 back next day. The 70/80 suits better my Mesa 50 caliber head!

Never realised how much Vintage 30's suck until today!

I wonder if anyone has tried to put one of each of these in a single 4x12 cab and record with a room mic, or 4 of the same mics, one on each speaker, equally blended? Also, if the tone varies when they all share the same airspace or were partitioned?

It’s a very good idea!

Seventy80 for me!

It Sounds the best to me.. Well balanced. It does not highlight any frequency range, as it should be.. The tone should come from the EQ, not from the speaker itself...otherwise you'll need a different speaker For each different EQ you need..

I just got a cab with seventy 80s. And everyone rags on them. I feel that they sounded great in this shootout. Some of the riffs varied between the seventh 80, greenback and the g12 75t sounded good overall. I was suprised that the vintage 30 sounded like a turd in each riff. I’d say seventy 80 considering they are the underdog

The Seventy 80 is in my Traynor YCV40 and sounds pretty decent overall.

I liked the 12 75 for most of the settings but once you get into the 7 string the 12 75 was my least favorite I thought the green back was good in 7 string but the last speaker g12 150 was really.nice in 7 string (it was my least favorite in all other settings)

I like the 75's for clean tones and mild rock , but the V30's just punch thru.

The 70-80 sounds great v30 has a brighter top-end than the rest. What a find interesting is with the Strat The 70-80 Sounds brighter then the 25 Greenback but the Les Paul brightens up through the Greenback more than the Strat.

I suspect the V30 is brand new. A broken in V30 does not sound fizzy (unless your guitar / amps/ pedal are the cause) check out all the other yoo toob comparisons.
